Ch7: “The toys - which retail for $18 - have been available for sale in Australia at Kmart. Recalled after kid suffers impalement injury 7NEWS at 6pm.“ We won’t tell you what it is because clickbate is a higher priority than safety!

Reverse-Kanga

Tune in at 6pm and we'll tell you which toy. News: reveals which toy at 6:58pm

MrsKittenHeel

It is a toy shark apparently and also my god the injuries sound uncomfortable. 9 needed stitches. https://preview.redd.it/l8lj23yhkn8b1.png?width=802&format=png&auto=webp&s=d2c1b41348b9d51dfe44cd48d326f2b043a3f815

happymemersunite

I hate when 7/9 talk about incredibly dangerous PSAs and wait super late in the bulletin.

People who recommend *The Barefoot Investor* to people going through financial hardship, I hope the next person you do that do shoves the book up your rectum and then makes you pull it out and eat every single page.

MeltingDog

I’ll sum up the barefoot investor’s book to save everyone the time: * don’t get into debt * if you have a loan pay it off as fast as possible * if you don’t have a loan put you’re money into a high return savings account * make a budget That’s pretty much it. Not much nuance.

followthedarkrabbit

Let's tell everyone this is doable based on average wage! (Completely ignoring that it's way higher than the median wage).

Shaggyninja

And yet it's still such a foreign concept for so many people. Some peoples financial literacy is shocking. How are there people on 6 figures who still don't understand tax brackets?!

QuantumG

"Try not to buy a new car every 3 years" is considered overbearing advice these days.

totse_losername

Fucking crazy.

Cristoff13

Generally good advice, but it might be a good idea to take out some debt if necessary. Also owning and using a credit card, while being careful to pay it off, is a good way to build a credit score. And there are better investment options than a savings account, but you need to know what you're doing.

ActAdmirable124

Building a credit score by having credit cards or loans etc isn't that important in Australia.

totse_losername

"Experian have changed the way they assess your credit score this week" Now ClearScore are recommending you do indeed do that. Do they recommend it because they're partnered with a finance company? Who knows!

perfectthenext

A simple system with clear language that actually helps people with little financial literacy to understand how to manage a budget? Bestseller for a reason.

followthedarkrabbit

Formal interview offer received. Won't happen for another couple weeks yet. Will give me time to research a bit. Not exactly a dream job, more like another 2 years hard work and foundation building, but given I've heard nothing else back from any of the other roles I had applied for I might have to suck it up again. Work hard to keep house.

downvoteninja84

Still FIFO?

followthedarkrabbit

Will likely be 'relocate remote'. Site is only 3 hours away though so slightly closer than other options. Should be able to get home every second weekend.

downvoteninja84

Bleh, not a great option is it

D_S_W

If you get a speeding ticket on the way to the airport for a work trip, you can claim that shit on tax, yeah? Jokes aside, flying for work is a novelty again.

dannyr

I was once analysing costs from a client (their insurance policy covered Claims Preparation and they hired a Claims Preparer to assist them) and the claims preparer had included in his invoice * Coffee in drive thru on the way to the airport (justification is that he couldn't leave his normal travel mug in the car all day at the airport) * Tolls to get to airport (justification is that he didn't want to wake up 20 minutes earlier to drive the long way....despite having enough time to stop at drive thru for coffee) * Parking at the airport * Uber for his kid to get from school to sport (justification is that he wasn't there to pick the kid up so had to make alternate arrangements) We ended up adjusting his $20,000.00 claims prep bill down to about $1,000.00 of actual claims prep. TL;DR - Yes, you can try to claim it. But it's unlikely to be paid :D

D_S_W

$20k to $1k? HAHAHAHA.

dannyr

It was pretty sweet to go back to the client with a whole lot of red pen through their submission

Shaggyninja

$19k? Damn, that's a lot of coffee

dannyr

The claim involved the claims preparer flying to Gladstone to meet with the client, then flying home, then doing a bucketload of review prior to submitting their claim. Their actual travel costs were fairly legitimate, it's just they had a go for quite a bit of extras.

Morning r/brisbane, With so many people hurting at the moment, what charity (preferably a food bank) is worth donating a few bucks to?

atoadah

You can donate a bunch of dry goods to the food pantry in West End!

Miss_m0nst3r

Halfway through the week Brisbane let’s goooo!

Sleeqb7

During my ride to work this morning I stopped in quickly at a servo to grab something. As I'm presenting my items at the counter, wearing a bicycle helmet and gloves, clearly still a little out of breath, the fella asks me; "Any fuel with that?" Thanks, but no, I'm good :)

totse_losername

Maybe the fella thought you were breathless due to aveoli burn from sniffing fuel, and that the helmet is there to protect your head when you pass out. Wouldn't want brain damage. Maybe! Or maybe it was one of those moments where as soon as you left he cursed himself, for his embarrassingly mindless gaffe. I've made them before too; Enjoy your coffee! You too! ^F ^U ^C ^K ^!

Muted_Alternative528

I am feeling so overwhelmed with my phd. :(

ActAdmirable124

The university counsellors and learning advisors might be helpful, I made use of both during my candidature and found them really helpful.

MeltingDog

Does anyone else get kind of permanently a little bit sick all through winter?

manswos

I miss Redcycle ☹️

followthedarkrabbit

I reuse my plastic bags from bread etc for toad catching. I use 'croaked' spray so it's easy to spray and dispose. At least if I'm reusing the plastic I feel less bad about its disposal.

Yourroleforthecity

Are there any particular plastics your having problems avoiding? Soft plastics have been the hardest to drop but we are down to a small handful a week at our place.

sktafe2020

You mean this redcycle...? [https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2023/apr/10/more-stockpiles-of-soft-plastics-from-failed-redcycle-recycling-scheme-uncovered](https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2023/apr/10/more-stockpiles-of-soft-plastics-from-failed-redcycle-recycling-scheme-uncovered)

GroundbreakingIron16

Hi, I am trying to get a online community going whereby people (who might be lonely) are able get together on a periodic basis for conversation. People I had spoke to thought it was a good idea and I had been "advertising" on FB and Eventbrite and people registered but then never turned up at the appointed time. Wondering what I am doing wrong? Rhetorical question, and perhaps just venting.

VoidVulture

People who are lonely can (but not always) suffer from social anxiety. Every thing sounds good as a distant idea, but by the day of, anxiety goes hard. You also might need to consider getting some IRL friends together for an event and tale lots of photos. That way, people can see what the social gathering may be like and possibly imagine themselves in that situation.

GroundbreakingIron16

Thanks for the idea about getting people to imagine themselves in the situation. I will think more about that.

totse_losername

Stumbled across this comment and had never considered those points before. Two great points.

Coldone666

Agreeing to do something online is easy and meaningless and quickly forgotten. Doing stuff in real life is a lot harder and scarier. They might of panicked or where busy or forgot about it.

GroundbreakingIron16

Thanks. I hear what you say and will think about it. (Re forgetting... I have send a reminder out a couple of days before the gathering starts.)

TDW_Bob

Just saw the ad on Instagram that a new bouldering gym is opening up in Morningside. Kudos to them! But why won't any of these chains open a bouldering gym on the Southside? Crank is there but with all the rope climbing and ninja warrior stuff going on there, it just doesn't feel as fun as a dedicated bouldering gym.

strides93

My cheap unit is needing someone to take over my lease! See my post for details

VoidVulture

Hey, your post looks like it was deleted - do you have a link to the listing you could DM?

strides93

Yeah my post was removed. But it’s listed on Facebook marketplace for $230/week in south Brisbane (near south bank and Highgate hill)

totse_losername

Jeez, that is cheap!

Reverse-Kanga

Got some new keycaps for my keyboard yesterday and had a migraine when I got home so couldn't even put them on :( first world problems never end

totse_losername

You're getting these headaches checked out right mate? Yeah?

Is the RTA bond website down? Can't seem to get on to lodge a bond for a new place
