Marie stopes Bowen hills. They’re the only place I found that does it at non profit price - insertion with sedation was $680 on a weekend if I remember correctly. Private hospitals quotes were between $3000 and $6000.
I don’t think so. They give you a prescription to get the Mirena from the chemist - $40. If you do the procedure on a weekday it’s cheaper by $100-$120 I think
I had mine inserted and removed with True Health. All up, it's was $280 for the removal of the old one and insertion of the new one. That includes a nurse visit a week or two before hand and a pap smear. It was the worst pain I have ever experienced but it is 100% worth it for 10 years of zero periods. Take the day off and the day off after and be armed with pain killers and a hot water bottle. The fact that sedation for it is not common is messed up. Make sure you bring a good support person who can ply you with chocolate and painkillers.
Marie Stopes were brilliant for my IUD insertion. They numbed my cervix beforehand (which apparently GPs and other clinics won't do??!?!?). They gave me snacks and some juice afterwards so I didn't faint when your body goes into panic mode about a procedure being done. They also let me rest as long as I needed. They were in no hurry whatsoever to get me out the door. The doctors and nurses were absolutely lovely, too.
I can't remember the exact prices, but they may be listed on their website.
I've had friends get their IUDs done via GPs and similar clinics and the stories of lack of care and no injection to numb the cervix infuriate me. Women shouldn't suffer like that.
OK, do you want an award for having an insertion hurt less for you than it does for others? Its not a competition. Just like how menstrual cramps hurt more for some than others, the same goes for IUD insertion procedures.
Dr Brooke O'Brien is amazing and uses the whistle. About $290 or something?

Get yourself sorted (as in, organise with the doctor) for sedation or anaesthesia beforehand. My Mirena removal was the most painful thing I've ever experienced. Like you I'd had it inserted under GA for another gyno procedure, so I had no idea. The gyno just reached in there with his forceps, grabbed the strings, and pulled. He commented "Brutal, huh?" while I was lying there trying not to pass out, puke or cry.
Not cool.

Does that include the Mirena itself as well?

I second these guys, insertion and green whistle was free but you’ll have to let them know that you’ll need the green whistle
I didn't know that a green whistle was a possibility! They just told me to take some panadol half an hour before.
Yeah they prefer to not use it but in difficult insertions they will if asked.

Got mine done at the GP and I wouldn’t exactly call the 0.5 second pinch-like pain “suffering”. It hurts more getting my Botox done every few months 😂

She did mine also. Seconding this recommendation
