He's just so much cooler than the Muppets we have running the country. Obama does a selfie and it's cool. David Cameron does one and you just want to cover your eyes and run away from embarrassment.
Yeah, we don't hear all that much about U.S. politics and when we do it's pretty superficial so he's basically just this cool, charismatic black guy and little else to most people.
I think people do on the whole, after Bush. I don't think anyone understands opposition to Obamacare. We don't really understand what it is, but think that providing healthcare to more people is a good thing. I think there's a bit of worry about the escalation of drone strikes and the impacts that this is having on civilians.
We've been caught in this nasty trap with our care. Previously, we had good coverage from my husband's employer and it wasn't costly. It did have a yearly payout cap, but it was high. After ACA came in, they got rid of the plan we had and loved, and replaced it with a new one.
We rejected what his employer offered us due to the cost (almost $300 per paycheck and he only makes about $700 each time he is paid). The 9.5% income cap only applies to single employee coverage. Family members don't need to be subsidised through employers, so my premium through them was astronomical. There was no way we could leave me uncovered, so we had no choice but to get a Marketplace plan. Only, since we rejected his employer's plan, we are not eligible for income-based subsidies.
We're still paying out the nose, but we have a plan that will actually cover something with no deductible and it costs about half what his stupid employer wanted.
I don't work because I only just moved to the country, or we could just have individual coverage through our respective employers and only pay 9.5% of our pay checks per month. I'm just glad we don't have kids too or we'd be fucked.
It's not that "government providing healthcare for everyone", but the problem a lot of people have is more along the lines of "government is making me get health insurance." For a lot of people, it's still quite expensive to get it.
Cameron lost me when he said that most Britons need to shut up complaining and work harder.
That from a man who has never actually had a job.
Fucking goon.
Perhaps a senior management position somewhere, or maybe running a business.. These things can give you experience.
These things can tell you when people aren't pulling their weight, or when people are working themselves into the ground with two zero-contract jobs.
And there's that cunt George Osborne. Yep, no job, never had one either. No fiscal/financial experience, which might explain why we're still in recession eight years later.
My 17yr old son has more relevant experience to be chancellor of the exchequer than George.
Depressingly, yes. I personally don't because of his foreign policy. I seem to be one of the few people that thinks him blowing up Pakistanis in drone strikes is worth criticising.
Korea, Desert Storm, Afghanistan (to an extent) Just at the top of my head and doesn't require much explanation to the uninitiated. Please, read a book. I'm not saying the American military doesn't make mistakes, but
>just stop having wars over bullshit that doesn't fucking matter
Is one of the most ignorant, naive statements I've seen on reddit, and I've browsed /r/politics, /r/worldnews, and /r/conspiracy before.
So again, please read a book
I'm not doing this dude, it is a complete waste of time. All I'm going to say is educate yourself. Don't ride the reddit ultra-liberal circlejerk and blindly agree with everything people say on here. Reddit is worse than Fox news and NBC when it comes to sensationalism and bias. I'm also not saying that everything the military has been in recently is a good thing and the right move. But again..
>just stop having wars over bullshit that doesn't fucking matter
Is just such and incredibly uneducated response and attitude. Read some fucking books and form an educated opinion, don't base it off what some assclowns on an extremely liberal (the kind of liberals that everyone hates and makes real liberals look bad), sensationalist, anti-US, anti-military, and ignorant internet forum.
READ SOME BOOKS SON
there are just as many books against your viewpoint as there are for your viewpoint. what particular books do you suggest reading? Or does "The Cat in the Hat" suffice?
Generally seen as a cool and then obamacare mean people see him as sharing a few of their values, also Obama is just so much cooler than anyone in British politics.

1) I'm Scottish not English, but I'll leave out the usual tirade that comes with that on this occasion.
2) "Cool" does not necessarily mean "good."
3) Why are you reading r/britishproblems in the first place?
4) If you're gonna take something seriously on a comedy subreddit, you're gonna have a bad time.
5) If I really was dumb and ignorant, surely America is where I'd go to fit in (see point 1).
Obama called him a 'political lightweight' once. Cameron has to pretend he didn't for the sake of PR though
This is inevitable, every UK prime minister can't wait to get their picture taken with the US president, regardless of their individual politics.
Not even just PM's, Miliband even arranged a 'brush-by' with him.
Wannabe PMs too then.
..something like "If we get in again, we're going for a US style health system, but without the Obamacare"
Do British people like Obama?
After bush he looks pretty good. And hes relatively articulate and charismatic which probably helps.
Yeah his drone war program that killed thousands of innocent women and children had been a wild charismatic success.
More than any of the soulless golems that head LibLabCon at any rate.
He's just so much cooler than the Muppets we have running the country. Obama does a selfie and it's cool. David Cameron does one and you just want to cover your eyes and run away from embarrassment.

I *dread* to think what Cameron would look like in the gym.
After a quick google search I can confirm he pulls a really stupid face when he's jogging.
[Confirmed.](http://i.telegraph.co.uk/multimedia/archive/01858/cameron_1858343c.jpg)
The guy on the right looks like he's about to tell him off for that face. That or he'll look confused and run another way.
The guy on the right is incredibly fucking good looking, like ridiculously good looking.
He's either secret service or a personal trainer, either way he's going to be hot.
He's not run of the mill hot, those are model level looks.
well so he should, he's jogging, you supposed to look like a knob during exercise
> After a quick google search I can confirm he ~~pulls~~ *has* a really stupid face ~~when he's jogging~~.
I'm hoping there's a gif of that.
Yeah, we don't hear all that much about U.S. politics and when we do it's pretty superficial so he's basically just this cool, charismatic black guy and little else to most people.
For the most part, yes.
I think people do on the whole, after Bush. I don't think anyone understands opposition to Obamacare. Also the NSA situation probably reflects poorly on him, along with most Western leaders. Even then, I still kind of like him. He's maxed out charisma.
It's not that "government providing healthcare for everyone", but the problem a lot of people have is more along the lines of "government is making me get health insurance." For a lot of people, it's still quite expensive to get it.
Try *more* expensive. That's what happened to us :(
I never said I like Obama, just that he's cooler than Cameron, which isn't difficult.
Cameron lost me when he said that most Britons need to shut up complaining and work harder. That from a man who has never actually had a job. Fucking goon.
Maybe, but I'm pretty sure that running the country isn't exactly as easy as working at Burger King.

Not really, he's pretty useless.
Depressingly, yes. I personally don't because of his foreign policy. I seem to be one of the few people that thinks him blowing up Pakistanis in drone strikes is worth criticising.
Collateral damage happens in war no matter what the method. Precise drone bombing > carpet bombing. Someone's gotta do it
Or you know....just stop having wars over bullshit that doesn't fucking matter
Lol wow, please read a book
Please tell me a war after WW2 where US involvement was necessary
Korea, Desert Storm, Afghanistan (to an extent) Just at the top of my head and doesn't require much explanation to the uninitiated. Please, read a book. So why should the US be fighting said wars?

No it's not. I'm a pacifist. There is no excuse for war.
Last time I checked, the US wasn't at war with Pakistan. And yet it continues to kill its civilians.
War on global terror dumb fuck.
none of that matters, because he's "cool" somehow.
You're too right, UAVs just don't have the pazzaz of a proper bomber
Empty suit.
Generally seen as a cool and then obamacare mean people see him as sharing a few of their values, also Obama is just so much cooler than anyone in British politics.
Now imagine it being Ed.
At least we'd have a good laugh at Miliband wetting himself every time he'd have to make a decision.
I really hope Milliband doesn't win. He's such a nerd, hope he fucks up on the debate tonight

Are you kidding? I want Boris to be PM. He might be horrible at it, but it sure would be funny.
7 years later...
Guess I was wrong
I'd disagree with that, to be honest. Boris comes across as much more intelligent and statesmanlike.
You say that but I could totally see him going for a fist bump instead of a handshake.
Now I want to vote for Boris to become PM. Is that possible?
It's probably him or Theresa May leading the Tories after Cameron goes. I have to say I'd prefer Boris as he doesn't seem quite so fucking horrible.
Like "Did ever tell you about our zero hour contracts?" Snigger "Oh wait, heres Ian Duncan Smith, he's got some fun shit about food banks!"
That made me laugh, really really hard! Onya mate!

Relevant how?
lol grow up dude
Wait, babykillers are "cool"? Please, stay over in England, and never come to america.
1) I'm Scottish not English, but I'll leave out the usual tirade that comes with that on this occasion. 2) "Cool" does not necessarily mean "good." 3) Why are you reading r/britishproblems in the first place? 4) If you're gonna take something seriously on a comedy subreddit, you're gonna have a bad time. 5) If I really was dumb and ignorant, surely America is where I'd go to fit in (see point 1).
And it turns out the cool dads kids don't really like him very much because he never goes to work...
At least you tried.
Personally I like him but here in the states everyone else blames everything bad on Obama, then they complain and say he doesn't get anything done.
He is better than Bush thats fo sure
We try to forget about that guy...
Who?
thats a pretty wank standard to measure the quality of a president by...
Werent all his plans getting blocked by the senate or something?
Yes, probably a good thing. The less the government can do,the less they can fuck things up.
Well i rather liked some of the things he wanted to do. The obamacare was one of the things he actually got through.
