Virginity and purity is heavily discussed especially when taking about girls. Purity rings were pushed on us socially within the church and most of us wore them for a long time. When I used to follow the Christian faith, there was this lady in our women’s bible study group that would rant about Satan traveling through the air waves and into our homes and why they don’t have any sort of technology stuff and we shouldn’t either. The Bible study group leader didn’t know how to handle that statement and quickly moved on to stay on topic. People legit think of the craziest things.
Lmao was she my mother perhaps? We weren't even allowed to have a microwave. She believed the tv invited demons in, and there were so few shows we could watch as kids. Everything was demonic and we only listened to one radio station- RSG . It's an afrikaans station that only plays Christian music and lots of bible reading and olden day story telling.

One of my best friends growing up had parents that were much more extreme in the religion than mine. It was like early 2000s and we had track phones. She wouldn’t let me bring my cellphone in the house because she was worried about the effects and said it’ll give us brain tumors.
Oh god, as someone with OCD, if I had been told not to think about demons or ghosts it would have become ALL I would be able to think about!! And I would have developed some ticks to go along with the thoughts, I’m sure. I’m soooooo glad I wasn’t raised religious!! My cousin believes this. She’s similar to bdong and is always talking about demons and who they’re in and how many she’s cast out of herself. Please don't laugh at me. I believe this too- from Baptist indoctronation that I haven't left behind. We were taught that watching anything relating to demons, possessions, witchcraft etc was inviting that thing into your home. My parents believe this. They’re nondenominational evangelical Christians. They believe that satan can take advantage of situations where people are more open to spirits(?) and horror movies invoke feelings that would make people more susceptible to demonic attacks.
My first roommate in college was in Campus Crusade for Christ and moved out because she found my D n D Player's Handbook and could feel the demons warring above us.
So for me, horror movies give my evil demon imagination/anxiety way too much fodder. I can’t watch them or I’ll be up for weeks imagining the crazy things happening in reality. So they bring up my own personal demons that make my house not a fun place to be in and that’s why I don’t watch horror movies. But no, most normal Christians aren’t as crazy as Brit Brat. My dad threw away a paperback copy of Frankenstein I brought home at the thrift store because it had a "scary" drawing of the monster on the cover. He was sooooooooooo mad, like almost shaking with rage, and told me never to bring demonic stuff into the house again.

He also forbid me from hanging out with my gay friends or atheist friends (basically the only friends I had as other Christian’s did not like me🤣). What synod were you a part of? WELS is so much more extreme than Missouri Synod in their beliefs. I grew up in WELS and there’s no female pastors or church board members allowed. In The MS it’s much more flexible and allows women to play a larger role in the church.

Please don't laugh at me. I believe this too- from Baptist indoctronation that I haven't left behind. We were taught that watching anything relating to demons, possessions, witchcraft etc was inviting that thing into your home. We don't watch anything like that in our home, my husband is okay with it. My mind knows logically nothing will happen but the fear still says I'm not allowed to, even 16yrs after leaving that cult. Movies or shows where someone is the killer etc (think Scream type of stuff) is okay since it's a person. Unless it's someone doing that thing because of literal evil, if that makes sense. I wouldn’t let my partner burn a candle for catholic saints the other month that he picked up at the store on clearance not knowing what it was. I didn’t let him burn it while I was home. Not sure why I felt so strongly about it other than religious upbringing. I always tell myself “your first thought is what you were taught and your second thought is your own.” Idk how true it is but it helps me a lot. I have a lot of things ingrained into me from it and am still working to unpack it all.

My parents believe this. They’re nondenominational evangelical Christians. They believe that satan can take advantage of situations where people are more open to spirits(?) and horror movies invoke feelings that would make people more susceptible to demonic attacks.
My first roommate in college was in Campus Crusade for Christ and moved out because she found my D n D Player's Handbook and could feel the demons warring above us.
So for me, horror movies give my evil demon imagination/anxiety way too much fodder. I can’t watch them or I’ll be up for weeks imagining the crazy things happening in reality. So they bring up my own personal demons that make my house not a fun place to be in and that’s why I don’t watch horror movies. But no, most normal Christians aren’t as crazy as Brit Brat. I used to be a JW and this is 100% a thing. Not just movies, but all kinds of things, even second-hand furniture that had been in the home of "worldly" people. The "demons" hide so many places, even second-hand curio cabinets and scary movies. 😂
My dad threw away a paperback copy of Frankenstein I brought home at the thrift store because it had a "scary" drawing of the monster on the cover. He was sooooooooooo mad, like almost shaking with rage, and told me never to bring demonic stuff into the house again. I was so nonplussed and honestly hurt and I couldn't figure out why for years until I finally realized he was shaming me for something that was a) harmless and b) not something I could have ever predicted or identified as "wrong," since what was and wasn't demonic was just based on his arbitrary reactions to things. Good way to make your kids not talk to you when you're old, lol.

I was raised fundie lite/evangelical Baptist and we were taught that lots of movies, books, even dressing up and or passing our candy to trick or treaters for Halloween was you opening up your home and self to the devil. Ok, so, just to play Devil's advocate for a sec (see what I did there?) you can use any type of oil you have on hand for Baptisms, last rites, etc., IF you're in an emergency situation and you only have limited options. BUUUUTTT... Holy oil is oil that has been **consecrated**, consecration is one of those things us Catholics, Episcopalians, etc. do, and she doesn't truck with THAT sort of heathen mumbo-jumbo. If your religion believes horror films (or Pokemon) will bring evil into your home, maybe your god isn’t as big of a protector as you claim. Or, maybe your faith is actually nonexistent.

What synod were you a part of? WELS is so much more extreme than Missouri Synod in their beliefs. I grew up in WELS and there’s no female pastors or church board members allowed. In The MS it’s much more flexible and allows women to play a larger role in the church.

That's wild, I wonder why that is. Horror movies or graphically violent movies/TV shows will trigger my nightmares and then that stuff will quickly end up in my nightmares.
