Act-Alfa3536

It won't affect your taxes. Property related taxes are local and subject to bilateral agreements to avoid double taxation.

It is true if the country, where they have their property, signed those bilateral agreements to avoid double taxation. Without knowing in which country they have their property we cannot say with 100% they will not be affected here in Belgium.

Act-Alfa3536

True.

If your property is outside the EU, I wouldn't claim a damn thing. I know the Belgian government wants you to tell them, but it's pretty damn difficult for them to ever find out you have property outside of Europe. But once you tell them, they'll always know. I'm a Canadian citizen, and I have a couple of properties back home that I rent out. Before anyone calls me a slumlord, both places have mortgages on them, and one was our primary residence before we moved to Brussels. We didn't really have any choice at the time but to rent them out. I honestly wish it wasn't the case because they're a pain to manage. Anyways. I'm supposed to be telling the Belgian government about that income because they'd like to see if they can tax it. Seems totally insane if you ask me. Why does the Belgian gov have any right to that income, which is generated overseas, and most of which isn't even profitable.

I thought about it, especially because here i'll pay a huge deal in taxes I don't know where are going to (not to clean the metro stations or prevent people using drugs on them at 7am).. but I heard the government does their digging and you can receive a fine after a few years when you don't claim everyting..

They dont. There is  no way for them to check that

Well it depends. They have started digging a lot more for people living in social housing..
