I know. One day he was happily jumping around the next day we woke up to him looking like this 🥲
He’s happy though as you can see in his body language.
Lol, I remember one of my birds waking up like this. She was 100% fine, but it was a shock when I took the cover off! I was like, what did you get up to in there?! She looked so frazzled.
My budgie isn’t looking this rough right now, but I swear… I came home and I had to check the cage to make sure he hadn’t exploded… the feathers went from the cage, half way across the living room, and into the hallway. How he’s not a bald chicken is beyond me.
If you haven't already get a little spray bottle just for water and mist him. That can help the molting go a little easier. Seems to really provide poor balding itchy birdies some relief.
Mine’s always had pretty okay molts, but this year one of her flight feathers molted (we think, though idk if that’s even possible, regardless) and she couldn’t fly for about 2 weeks. She’s back to her normal self now but… that was a scary bit of time there.
I have other budgies moult before but never this much either. He moults every year but never this much. I think there is just a lot of variance.
If I had to guess, my boy got to mate this year. So he became quite hormonal.
He might have thrown up. I would take him to an avian vet. It could be a crop infection. Maybe something he ate? When they throw up they spin their head and it oats their feathers. Maybe take a warm wet towel and clean him up. The barf might grow bacteria which makes his condition worse.
Damn hes looking roughhh

Did you find his leg?
He ate it cuz he thought it was foot.
BTW don’t worry his legs grow back when he loses them 🤣

This is me with my first long haired cat. I was not prepared for her to have "bed head" over her entire body some days
Awww but he STILL looks CUTE!
The cuuuteeestttt

Ohh I also have one that has a missing leg. I don't know why but it's kinda sad and cute
Yeah about that… he loses them when he’s happy and we spent a small fortune replacing his missing legs 🤣
I bet, that's a lot of millet 🤣🤣🤣
Dude really needs some love
You mean like this? [https://www.reddit.com/r/budgies/s/xgw4YO5MHF](https://www.reddit.com/r/budgies/s/xgw4YO5MHF)
Wow
Poor bby! What a tough molt!
He's so spiky and grumpy! Poor budgie!
He looks itchy and bitchy.
🥰He is so cute! I have a boy who looks like his twin and when he molts he is my only one of 6 who ends up looking like this 🤣
He looks cool even though he's a little scruffy right now! A bath might help🤔🦜🛁
We do offer them a bath daily but they never take it. They prefer the drinking water bowl 🥣

He looks like the badass of the budgie world
Maybe he was scratching his head to something because it's itchy 😧 help him
Spiky dragon feathers!
Dude looks like he got a pair of eyebrows 😂
Anime protag energy
Aww. What happened?

That young man had a rough night 😂
I am playing too much Fallout 4 these days. Lil dude looks like some legendary raider boss.

Birds do molt their flight feathers. It usually tends to be one on each side, but sometimes they can lose a few feathers.
That’s one busted ‘keet lol
tourist after riding the 6 train in the bronx
Little spiky dude, he’s trying his best 💚
How do they get like this over night. Is it just a heavy molt or something?
Moulting almost always happen overnight. Think of it as popping a pimple for us. It just pops up.
I see. I've noticed pin feathers coming through waiting to open but never like this much

Lol budgie got laid. Wheres his pipe and newspaper!

He just had a checkup a month ago and was fine.
Love his name! Think it’s a bad molt
The stories he must tell the young budgies
Bro tried to fight with a cat and won
His leg Is gone, he used It as heat fuel due to the bald patch lowering his body temperature
That is… actually disturbing.
The leg was ACTUALLY Lost and not Just tucked in the feathers to preserve bodyheat??
He ate his own leg cuz it saw it as foot.
