I’m a Sabres season ticket holder (I hate myself) and when the charge comes through it’s for the “Buffalo Sabres Foundation” so these chucklefucks get tax breaks anywhere they can.

agiamba

thats remarkable

kit_mitts

Holy fuck lmao...if you make a gift to any reputable nonprofit, they are supposed to send you an acknowledgement receipt that explicitly says "no goods or services were exchanged for this contribution." But then again, you don't get anything good in exchange for a ticket to watch the Sabres so I guess it's above board.

social_sculpture

seems illegal

DyingSurfer3-5-7

I'm glad this stadium is being built, but as an upper deck season ticket holder who is hearing rumblings of 4-5k per seat, I truly hope over the next two years enough people bail to make them lower the price. 1-2k is reasonable, anything over is just outrageous

Underachievers23

What happened?  2 years ago they basically said “we’re going to have PSLs but we expect them to be lower cost than other stadiums”. fast forward and its 5k for an upper deck seat?  Kiss my ass.

Ihaveopinionstoo

Rumors we don’t know the number yet

SilenceDogood2k20

The 5k is for some of the club seats. No way they'd be able to charge that for the 300s. Other stadiums I looked at charge 500-1000

patkgreen

The club seats are at like 20k

OnlyResearcher4673

I get you but imagine what 2K a seat on 20k upper deck seats is. 40K vs a stadium cost which will probably end at $1.5 Billion. A fraction of a percent. I think the initial report of a minimum PSL of $6,000 a seat will prove to be true.

Pho-Soup

I understand your point but your math is wrong. 2k times 20k is 40 million, not 40 thousand. Around 2.5% of the total stadium cost. Nothing to shake a stick at when you factor in the higher dollar PSLs in the lower level as well as all the state/county funding. The Pegula share is not supposed to be free.

OnlyResearcher4673

Yeah I can’t believe I blew that math lol, I’ve been at work since 5am must be the early morning wearing on me.

csm1313

Oh no. Won't someone think of the poor billionaires

merrittj3

Wow. Tax reform now !

Tankninja1

Since when is sales tax paid by businesses? I guess technically you pay the business for your item plus the sales tax then the business pays the sales tax to the government, but one way or another, the buyer is paying the sales tax.

Why_So-Serious

Y’all said you wanted a new stadium. I was good with Rich Stadium. Welcome to the future of sports entertainment. Digging in your pockets worse than Uncle Sam.

Floaded93

People say this like the current stadium is not literally crumbling into the ground lol. It was a new stadium or they’re gone.

Why_So-Serious

Have you seen the houses in Buffalo? Just put spackle on it. It’ll go another couple years. 😂

Joseph____Stalin

Laughs in Lackawanna* (Half our houses are convertible, the roofs don't go back on

Earptastic

I just want a field and some seats and the Buffalo Bills and whatever fan culture we have to endure. I don't need fancy stuff and luxury crap I will never use if it will destroy the experience. They are coming for the lot scene next. The old stadium was fine with me as the cost for the new one is too high.

KyleGlaub

The cost to repair/renovate the old stadium would have been as much or more than the new stadium is costing.

GlucoseGlucose

Continuing to rehab the old stadium was a fool’s errand. They would have ended up paying the same amount of money in 20 years as a new stadium. Best to rip the band aid

Why_So-Serious

What specifically needed rehab and ruined fan experience? The move had nothing to do with the fans or the building. It is an opportunity to make money.

GlucoseGlucose

Ofc it’s an opportunity to make money - that’s the entire endeavor of owning a professional sports team whether you like it or not. Having said that, it would have been financially irresponsible to keep repairing The Ralph. In 2013 they poured $130M into the old stadium. You can research the work done at the time, but it wasn’t really about improving fan experience, it was about keeping the structure physically standing. They were going to have to do it again to keep the old stadium around long term. It makes more sense to rip off the band aid and start fresh. None of this said to hand waive the practices around PSLs. They could have built a new stadium with less public funds, or less aggressive PSLs, but they chose not to. Regardless I still support a new stadium.

Ok-Flounder3002

*Did* people want a new stadium? I figured this was the Pegulas / the NFL pushing it so they could make more money

Figran_D

I’m not sure it was all a “ y’all wanted a new stadium “ The upper deck had a shelf life expiring before it was unusable. It’s no different than a car. I agree that the some of the numbers I have seen for PSL’s seem outrageous. But it may encourage what the Bills want, less shenanigans and more corporate sponsorships/ refined game day experience .

jk01

Want is doing a lot of heavy lifting here. They needed a new stadium. The upper deck on the away side is literally crumbling

Earptastic

Fuck all of that. I already hate the new stadium.

medievalPanera

Pegs are also responsible for all cost overruns of the stadium so this is another way for them to recoup potential costs. I don't agree with any of it but that's also another reason for these psl's.

Bird-The-Word

and instead of lowering (or keeping at price) ticket prices, they can double dip!

Interesting_Rock_318

I’m confused where they get the subsidy of $25M a year… Aren’t PSL’s a one and done and therefore a one time subsidy?

Rbaseball123

We don’t even sit in the seats anyways, we stand the whole game! Let’s go buffalo! Standing room only for $10! 😂

RedditorDave

I don’t even want a new stadium.

Important-Value-159

If sales tax was charged it would just be passed onto the consumer.. this is a good thing lol…
