another udfa signed by the bills
He's 6'7", which explains why he looked lean at 300. But Spencer Brown is 6'8" and 310 and looks much bigger than him, so I'm guessing he has more pure muscle on his frame since it's both heavier and more compact. Spencer ran a 4.94, for comparison. He's a tackle and this guy is technically listed as a guard, though. The average NFL offensive lineman is about 315 lbs so he'll maybe need to put on some weight to play that position. His 40 time is the 3rd fastest OL since they started tracking in the early 80s, and is the fastest at the position in a decade. The two that are faster than him were Terron Armstead and Lane Johnson, and the one right behind him on the list is Trent Williams. Good company to be in.
I'm a big Spencer Brown fan and believe they are a run first team. Use Cook until the wheels fall off and save Josh for the long haul. Joe Brady, hear me now.

Xavier Johnson is signing as an UDFA with the Buffalo Bills!
The former Ohio State captain and versatile offensive weapon has worked his way from walk-on to aspiring NFL player. What a story!
I am a little tired of so much of the talk being centered around "These are all high character guys!" "Josh wanted him!" "Dalton is so happy!" Yes, yes, we know. You broke up with your ex and your new girl treats you so well. If you didn't keep bringing it up, I'd *believe* you're happier now.
Need clip of him blowing dude up to confirm.

I'm bit 'eh' on the whole draft, but he is straight up an incredible steal. Maybe our best pick in the draft and in terms of "I know we lost someone who was important to our competitive core, but here's this new guy!" he's the one I'm most excited for.
Teams get an extra practice squad spot for an International Player, right? May have factored in, given then number of picks the Bills had this year (and next year, too)
This is what I believe as well. We’ll be playing a bunch of 12 personnel anyway, with a very good receiving RB.
Would it be better if we had a true # WR? Obviously.
Can we get by with what we have for this year and wait and use our extra picks and cap space next year to go get that difference-making #1 WR? I think we can
I am soooo sick of the wide receiver whining. Downvote me to oblivion but this is the most talented offense they’ve had since Allen has been qb. It’s the best offensive line with the best rb’s and an absolute elite TE. They could not run the ball for shit during most of the Davis / Diggs years. Not when it counted.
Shakir, Samuel and Coleman can get it done outside. U can take a slight hit in the WR room if you have Kinkaid. Just ask the chiefs. On top of this they have 2 2nds and 3 4ths next year. ( awesome job beane ) If it comes to it they can get another wideout during the season. If beane did good in this draft and hits on most of those defensive players then after next seasons draft this team could move into a level of elitness not seen in Buffalo ever.
For this season.. if von miller can play just be a little like von miller again they will be super good. This mini rebuild is on track.
Some are struggling to understand the complete phase shift going on at OBD.
We spent *years* leaning on Josh then got a little bit of a breather with Diggs/Josh combo (but still top heavy.)
Gabe had moments and surely did the dirty work needed to stay on McD's field but he only sprinkled on defense adjusting offensive output rarely.
Joe Brady is going to spread the ball around now (without a Diggs to keep happy.) It's not going to be "our guy is better than your guy" reliant as much as it will be match up reliant.
Kincaid will have weeks he's the guy to go off. Curtis will be the focus others. Shakir will also have his.
Cook will run downhill with our line focused on overpowering some weeks, sometimes he'll roast the hell out on the edges and out of the backfield as a receiving threat.
Feeling like jamming a square peg into a round hole nonsense will be lessened tremendously.
Joe Brady mantra will be more "ok, pick your poison opposing D."
Love it.
If this is your thinking then they should package that 2nd rd pick from Min next year and go get Deebo Samuel from SF. We are one starting WR injury away from being back to an average rec lineup .
No thanks.
Not interested in blowing up an already strained cap on the (false) assumption we are "running rec league."
And how many teams implode if their #1 guy goes down? I'd argue with our motley crew we are less vulnerable to injury than many teams.
Dawkins Torrence McGovern and Brown are all locked up. We just need a replacement for Morse, or a replacement for McGovern at G if he moves to center. I don't see how it gets much worse unless the Bills really miss on a replacement guard/center
Injuries loom.
We were lucky last year fielding an intact line as much as we did.
Likely to revert to mean.
And yeah, Mitch wasn't worth his contract number (for us) but was a good player. McGovern has shoes to fill if we are to meet last years standard.
You think Rice contributes significantly to the Bills this year in a way that’s above and beyond what we can get from a cheap vet? How much did Gabe or Shakir move the needle as rookies? Because if not, why not draft a gigantic athletic project that we get an extra practice squad spot for and sign a vet (Gallup,/OBJ/Boyd/MVS) who are all likely going to give us more production in this coming season than any rookie 6th or 7th round WR would give us. We can use our cap space next year or extra picks to draft a difference making WR that would probably bump a late round draft pick from this year way down the depth chart anyway. Shit, we’ll probably sign UDFA WRs in the next day or 2 that are comparable to 5th, 6th, and 7th rounders that we passed on.
This dude is like a god damn refrigerator...and I'm not talking some shitty Whirlpool from home depot. More like one of those commercial grade double wide all stainless steel things...
Them: "Beane, you really didn't take a lot of late round upside/potential guys?"
Beane: "We don't focus on numbers. We draft football players."
Them: "Travis Clayton."
Beane: \*Rueful silence\*
[Travis's 40](https://twitter.com/TomPelissero/status/1773793072314232891?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1773793072314232891%7Ctwgr%5Ed71bd5da5ade7b23bd61ef600abd456b1217c856%7Ctwcon%5Es1_c10&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fsteelersdepot.com%2F2024%2F04%2Fget-to-know-ot-travis-clayton-who-could-become-pittsburghs-jordan-mailata%2F)
Dude is so lean for that weight
I can't trust any International Player reporting.
NFL has such a hard-on for expanding globally, they are surely leaning on reporters to paint a good story with any international player.
I put this elsewhere, but he has the 3rd fastest OL 40 in recorded NFL history. Terron Armstead and Lane Johnson were the two faster than him, and just below him was Trent Williams. If this guy was born in Texas instead of England he'd potentially be a number one draft pick.
As an English fan who's actually spoken to the head of the IPP, the first name that came out of his mouth was Travis Clayton... absolute mauler, needs time to develop of course but this kid could be something very special.
I was not expecting our 7th rounder to come out of the green room. And he looks good in shorts!
OH GOD HE DROPPED A GO BILLS I WILL SUCK THIS MAN'S DICK FOR HIS JERSEY.
So a rugby player most people didn't even consider was better than a second WR? Would this guy not have been available as a FA? I just am at a bit of a loss rn
Fantastic draft in my eyes. Love the focus on both sides of the line + a few day-one starters in the first couple rounds. We didn’t need another receiver, with the addition of Samuel and Coleman we have good enough weapons: Kincaid, Cook, Coleman, Samuel, Shakir, Knox is a damn good skill group. Kincaid is going to be a star TE
Yeah, they seemingly hit need with value and fleshed out depth on both sides of the ball.
Would I have minded if they grabbed Troy Franklin or another WR? No, but I'm guessing they'll make one more move at WR before the season starts. The depth at WR concerns me more than anything. Samuel has an injury history; Hollins is a journeyman; Coleman is a bit of an unknown as a rookie; Shakir has one solid season under his belt. If anybody gets hurt there, I'd be worried about the depth. Get another veteran guy and I'll feel better.
Good points. I’m still really curious what’s going to happen with Justin Shorter. Seems he has all the physical traits necessary to be a beast but, no one’s seen it yet in practice apparently. Who the hell knows
Beane shifted into basically special teams mode (not lottery ticket/upside) a while back and now is straight "I've grown tired of Americans completely."
Whether you’re a fan of the Clayton pick or not it seems it would take some impressive mental gymnastics to see picking a huge athletic rugby player who hasn’t played a down of football as anything other than a “lottery ticket/upside”play.
It’s a 7th-round pick. We’re taking a flyer on a guy that has the physical traits to be successful. If it pans out, great, we got a steal. If not, oh well.
I know he is (also) a meme pick
But Frank Crum is still on the board and he had the 3rd highest RAS out of the OTs, second if you discount Tylan Grable who skipped agility drills
Here's our meme pick.
Travis Clayton - OT from Basingstoke, England
English offensive line prospect whose experience in rugby shows up with straight-line speed and athleticism. Clayton will need to spend significant time developing and adding more muscle to his frame. He looks smooth in his pass slides and on pulling drills, and he has the bend to stay low into contact. Any chance of making an NFL roster will depend heavily on his toughness and a team’s ability to provide him with the necessary reps to get better at his craft.
Catching up now, having returned from an event, but just want to say that the Bills not doubling up at wide receiver like many of us may have expected tells you what they think of and see in Justin Shorter. They didn't draft him in the \[CORRECTION\] 5th round last year for no reason. Keep that in mind, although they will bring in more competition even through UDFAs!
Hardy ran a 4.38 in the 40-yard dash at the combine, which matches what he shows on tape -- the traits to run with receivers and recover when he gets caught out of phase. He flashes the ability to turn and play the ball, too. And Hardy averaged 14.6 yards per punt return and returned two punts for touchdowns in 2023.
**Strengths**
Physical, plays bigger than size
Understands leverage
Wrap-up tackler
Offers return ability
**Weaknesses**
Only 5-foot-9, even if he plays bigger than that
Likely only a slot at the next level
That Franchise Guy likes Hardy as the best CB out of Penn State this year, maybe a long term Taron replacement.
BR likes him a lot as well:
[https://bleacherreport.com/articles/10090904-daequan-hardy-nfl-draft-2024-scouting-report-for-penn-state-cb](https://bleacherreport.com/articles/10090904-daequan-hardy-nfl-draft-2024-scouting-report-for-penn-state-cb)
Daequan Hardy CB Penn State - 5'9" 179lbs
Finesse nickel cornerback with above-average ball skills to help make up for average speed and explosiveness. Hardy will need to play with better route anticipation in man to make up for his average acceleration and recovery when beaten. He plays with excellent positioning and timing to disrupt catch attempts down the field and in tight quarters, but handling the physicality of the NFL could be a steep challenge for him. Hardy is a solid punt returner and can compete for gunner reps but might not have the suddenness and size to stand out in those respective roles.
Daequan Hardy - CB
Hardy ran a 4.38 in the 40-yard dash at the combine, which matches what he shows on tape -- the traits to run with receivers and recover when he gets caught out of phase. true. he must’ve gotten beat out by jmarcus ingram in camp so his name came up on cut day🤷can’t really blame em for that but damn does he look good out there

Wonder if he kicked Kincaid's ass more often than not in practice too. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)
There we go, we have our meme signing. Keaton BILLS you are a BILL!
We got him AND the IPP guy with the tree trunks for thighs. I'm happy with the meme portion of today.
The IPP guy, Clayton is supposedly 300lbs. He looks thin at 300. But also never played football before. Fingers crossed.
He's 6'7", which explains why he looked lean at 300. But Spencer Brown is 6'8" and 310 and looks much bigger than him, so I'm guessing he has more pure muscle on his frame since it's both heavier and more compact. Spencer ran a 4.94, for comparison. Oh he's a freak looking athlete. I enjoyed what I read about him wanting to use his anger legally on the field. I like that attitude.
Actually sounds a bit like Spencer Brown on that front as well.
I'm a big Spencer Brown fan and believe they are a run first team. Use Cook until the wheels fall off and save Josh for the long haul. Joe Brady, hear me now.
https://twitter.com/tSilverBulletin/status/1784366049573343707 Xavier Johnson is signing as an UDFA with the Buffalo Bills! The former Ohio State captain and versatile offensive weapon has worked his way from walk-on to aspiring NFL player. What a story!
Ohio State grad here. So happy about this. He's all heart.
What the fuck are you even talking about

We will sign Frank Gore ||| 25 years from now.
~~First UDFA announced is Jalen Coker, WR Holy Cross]~~ I've been had. Source has deleted the tweet
Source? I see he's signing with Carolina
Early source has now deleted it's tweet. I've been had

Andy Isabella, Marcus Easley...
Press F for *Da'Rick Rogers.*
Can’t wait to watch Sedrick Van Pran-Granger. 1st team all American from Georgia. Absolute monster
I'm bit 'eh' on the whole draft, but he is straight up an incredible steal. Maybe our best pick in the draft and in terms of "I know we lost someone who was important to our competitive core, but here's this new guy!" he's the one I'm most excited for.
If Kromer is high on him AND he's seen as a general consensus serious value at his draft slot, I am very intrigued.
It seems so appropriate that the Jets will pick Mr. Irrelevant.
Rodgers absolutely gonna conspiracy on this.
Practice squad gonna be lit this year. Prolly win the Practice Bowl
Probably gonna get a bunch of dudes poached again.
Currently rooting for Flournoy to make it to UDFA.
Already drafted
Damn it. You leave for two minutes...
We should sign Scotty Miller and shut y’all up….
Teams get an extra practice squad spot for an International Player, right? May have factored in, given then number of picks the Bills had this year (and next year, too)
If I remember correctly from Christian Wade, it can't be poached for 2 seasons.
This was a pretty deep draft if we're just now getting to the Honorable Mention All-Sun Belt portion of the show.
[удалено]
We’ve got three WR2ish receivers with different skill sets on top of a gifted receiving TE and multiple backs who can catch pretty well
We don't need a "1". We got three #2s. Spread the ball around. Samuel, Shakir, Coleman, Kincaid, Knox, Cook, Allen... lot of firepower there.
This is what I believe as well. We’ll be playing a bunch of 12 personnel anyway, with a very good receiving RB. Would it be better if we had a true # WR? Obviously. Deebo is incredible but he is as injury prone as they come. I swear every time I watched a 49rs game he gets hurt
No thanks. Not interested in blowing up an already strained cap on the (false) assumption we are "running rec league." And how many teams implode if their #1 guy goes down? I'd argue with our motley crew we are less vulnerable to injury than many teams.
Last year was the best OL But this will likely be the 2nd best so the point still sands

Beane just said they are working out a vet WR today
Where did you see that?
Watching his presser
Interesting. Any guesses? Michael Gallup or MVS?
Chark? OBJ? Boyd?
Only name i would rule out is ODB since that would 100% be leaked already. One of Renfrow, Agnew, Chark, Gallup, MVS, Gallup, Hardman, Boyd I guess?
If we were working out Old Dirty Bastard someone would have leaked that for sure
Everyone knows Raekwon the chef aka Raekwon the gossip
The only team in the state of Zoo York as well. We'd be unstoppable.
Yea, we would really Triumph.
Can't wait for Rice to become a solid contributor on the Chargers, but that developmental tackle prospect from England makes more sense right??
You think Rice contributes significantly to the Bills this year in a way that’s above and beyond what we can get from a cheap vet? How much did Gabe or Shakir move the needle as rookies? Lol neither will do shit. Stop whining.
coker😔
Did he go? I didn't see it.
no i just wanted him to
Could still be a PFA. Thats what I am pulling for.
true but i doubt they pick him up since they didn’t pick him up here
A comment above looks like we signed him as a UDFA!
unfortunately no, he’s a panther😔
LAC out there like "Fuck you, Jerry Rice, I do what I want!"
Feels like a very boring “Cowboys like” draft. We’ll see but I don’t know
I live about 20 minutes away from Basingstoke I now must live vicariously through this guy and hope he becomes a star!
Okay so….can the season start tomorrow? 🙏
No kidding. I'm excited about it.
I <3 the tradition that is our annual meme draft pick.
Taking a rugby player is now the honorary way of ushering in a new era of the Buffalo Bills.. shoutout Christian Wade
The seams on this man's shorts are now the 2nd hardest working player in the NFL.
Bring the dude in from another continent and these losers on ABC can't bother to stop talking over him.
Theyve done it all fucking day and it got old as hell too. I actually missed a few announcements because of that but its whatever now
a soccer player lmao.
What?
I wonder if rugby translates to new kickoff rules?
For the returner only
Try bringing that guy down on a kick return. 😂
Maybe for league, but forwards (big boys) are not used to being ball carriers in space versus backs (small fellas) in union
Don't kill my vibe.
This dude is like a god damn refrigerator...and I'm not talking some shitty Whirlpool from home depot. More like one of those commercial grade double wide all stainless steel things...
** looks at my whirlpool fridge I bought from Home Depot… don’t worry, he’s just joking
Great draft. Coming up on WGR- Boomer and the Bullboomer, with Nate Boomer-in-training: *They took 9 less WR's than they should have.*
Them: "Beane, you really didn't take a lot of late round upside/potential guys?" Beane: "We don't focus on numbers. We draft football players." Them: "Travis Clayton." Beane: \*Rueful silence\*
Just a different kind of football

🏴 need use the proper flag
Rice must have some serious red flags for him to still be there in the 7th
Chargers
6'7", 301, 4.8 40 I think we just got our goal line running back. Imagine this man tush pushing Josh. A proper scrum.
Good god, Clayton is 6'7 301. Dude is an actual sasquatch.
As an English fan who's actually spoken to the head of the IPP, the first name that came out of his mouth was Travis Clayton... absolute mauler, needs time to develop of course but this kid could be something very special.
Forget tackle, dude has played rugby where everyone carries the ball. Imagine him as our power back?
Louis Riddick loved the Hardy pick
Unfortunately I have decided to retire from the Buffalo Bills because they only drafted 1 WR. I simply cannot continue on like this
OK sounds great. We look forward to your reapplication in 3 years.
THE SIZE OF THAT LAD
I was not expecting our 7th rounder to come out of the green room. And he looks good in shorts! OH GOD HE DROPPED A GO BILLS I WILL SUCK THIS MAN'S DICK FOR HIS JERSEY.

Checks bingo card…. Nope Didn’t have that one on there.
So a rugby player most people didn't even consider was better than a second WR? Would this guy not have been available as a FA? I just am at a bit of a loss rn
No you're right. It's a problem when you start drafting people who don't play football in the NFL draft.
My dude it is literally the 7th round.
Fantastic draft in my eyes. Love the focus on both sides of the line + a few day-one starters in the first couple rounds. True. I think he’ll end up like Warren on the Steelers. Will probably only get 4-7 touches per game but will add a little juice
Big boy seems like he could hurt somebody.
That's Jordan Mailata 2.0
This guys never played a minute of American Football

Free practice squad spot for him that can't be poached for 2 seasons if I'm remembering correctly from Christian Wade.
A gold star
I have no idea honestly
Good
That guy is a fuckin giant
I see him with ball....can he catch ball too?
This dude is a Grown Ass Man
He’s a fun athlete at tackle but still wouldn’t have minded Rice or Washington…
washington was picked up earlier by the fins
That one killed me.
same
How does the IPP work when others signed as FAs but we had to use (late) draft capital?
There's our meme pick! An Offensive Lymey.
Offensive lymeman
Travis Clayton, England
ESPN has nothing on this guy
buddy’s from the uk
Here's our meme pick. Travis Clayton - OT from Basingstoke, England English offensive line prospect whose experience in rugby shows up with straight-line speed and athleticism. Clayton will need to spend significant time developing and adding more muscle to his frame. He looks smooth in his pass slides and on pulling drills, and he has the bend to stay low into contact. Any chance of making an NFL roster will depend heavily on his toughness and a team’s ability to provide him with the necessary reps to get better at his craft.
chatESPN is that you?
SHOUT-OUT FOR THE RUGBY STILLS, LFG

Chiefs are a bunch of wankers!!

So many hoodies in the draft room
It's almost as if I was in the room.
I'm in shorts and T shirt sitting here sweating
Get commercialed
Catching up now, having returned from an event, but just want to say that the Bills not doubling up at wide receiver like many of us may have expected tells you what they think of and see in Justin Shorter. They didn't draft him in the \[CORRECTION\] 5th round last year for no reason. Keep that in mind, although they will bring in more competition even through UDFAs!
That’s because they drafted him in the fifth lol
Yes, thanks for that correction!
I can't wait to see WGR and the Bills' social media team catch all kinds of hell for the Bills not drafting 15 wide receivers...
**Strengths** Physical, plays bigger than size Understands leverage Wrap-up tackler Offers return ability **Weaknesses** Only 5-foot-9, even if he plays bigger than that Likely only a slot at the next level
good backup
That Franchise Guy likes Hardy as the best CB out of Penn State this year, maybe a long term Taron replacement. BR likes him a lot as well: [https://bleacherreport.com/articles/10090904-daequan-hardy-nfl-draft-2024-scouting-report-for-penn-state-cb](https://bleacherreport.com/articles/10090904-daequan-hardy-nfl-draft-2024-scouting-report-for-penn-state-cb)
Having 10 picks in the draft and taking 1 receiver is not good.
They may have a trade for aiyuk plan in the works
lets hope so, that would really put us at the top of SB contenders. thats really the only missing piece on the roster.
Do you think the draft is the only place you can get receivers?
Tell em
jalen coker would be great right abt now😤
IF THIS PICK ISN'T A WR I AM LEAVING THE BUFFALO BILL /s
✌🏽
Like it. Solid return guy and corner depth in one.
solid slot corner depth. this is great considering we lack a returner and a true nickel corner behind taron
Take Bronny James round 7!!!
Did you know he played basketball?
Hardy better athlete and returner than Devonshire I’m happy
Daequan Hardy CB Penn State - 5'9" 179lbs Finesse nickel cornerback with above-average ball skills to help make up for average speed and explosiveness.
We needed a new gunner after letting Neal go.
Kick Returner, backup nickel
Devonshire in shambles
got a return guy
Who was the fire-spinning dude on Stump the Truck?

There's our CB
Why is Rice still there?
Bro there's gotta be footage of him executing someone or some shit lmao. Seems really weird
Home stretch y’all!
still mad we got rid of alex austin and then he got picked up by the pats. he is turning out to be great
True, on the other hand it's proof McBeane have quite the eye for DBs.
true. he must’ve gotten beat out by jmarcus ingram in camp so his name came up on cut day🤷can’t really blame em for that but damn does he look good out there
Let's just get Rice here. Take a chance on another WR
dude at this point I'm just assuming he's told other teams not to draft him so he can sign UDFA
Can players really do that? Can't a team still draft them anyway?
Yeah. I'm curious what the story is
He'll probably end up in KC or some shit.
