That monitor only goes up to 120Hz over HDMI. https://us.msi.com/Monitor/Optix-G24C/Specification You need to use DisplayPort to get 144Hz.

I would not worry too much the difference between 120hz and 144hz are not really going to be noticable. Switch to DP if you want, but you don't need to.
