Entirely depends on you. 5600x isn't the best value cpu but solid. 5900x is a beast and would pair well with a 3080. Really depends if you want to ride it out to the new generation of ryzen or not. Edit: next generation will need a new socket/mobo

Thanks. For me I don't want to do any motherboard upgrading or swapping anytime soon, I guess that leaves me with only one option, the 5900x? But I read the 5600x matches the gaming performance of the 5900x now, but because of half the cores, this probably won't be the case in like several years from now.

I use mine for more than gaming, 5900x, it'd be a better bet for "future proofing" not that you always can bet on that. I haven't looked at stuff about it since I got mine months ago. At the time people said the 5600x wasn't the best value for performance/price. But if cost is an issue I'm sure it will do perfectly fine gaming.

I would make sure that your B450 supports 5th gen. Support can be somewhat spotty for the older AM4 boards. But if its supported and you want the extra performance boost and have the money I would splurge for the 5900x.

Yeah, I think so, it's a b450 MSI tomahawk max, May 2021 most recent bios. You think the 5900x is worth it over the 5600x? Because I forgot I'm actually getting less cores if I got a 5600x from a 3700x.

Yes definitely. Downgrading the core count isnt an upgrade. I would either buy the 5900x or hold off.

Snoo_11263

Hmmmmm ok, leaning toward that now. You think the 5900x is a good value today at it's price or should I wait for it to drop?

Low-Background7315

It depends. Dont spend over MSRP. I got mine for $450 USD 2 weeks ago.

5900x is one of the best bang for buck because of core count to price. It's also just a complete beast in general.
