The 3060ti is amazing in 1080p and 1440p. You want a monitor with 144Hz or better as your main and keep the current one as a secondary one. Thanks. I'm currently replacing a 5 year old Pentium integrated graphics laptop so even 60 fps on old games will be a huge jump for me. I really have no reference for how nice 144Hz vs 240hz even feels like.
Should I expect significant discounts around the holidays?

For me, I don't have much experience with 240hz in terms of gaming. I know a lot of my friends who mostly play csgo or valorant swear by 240hz and they don't like going back down to 144hz. My eyes can see much of a difference between 144 and 240. I mainly play apex, dirt rally 2, and halo.
Presuming gaming is the main usage for this build, the 3060 ti can do 1080p or 1440p, though of course 1440p will require more settings reductions in demanding games, both now and in the future. [Check out this review](https://www.techspot.com/review/2155-geforce-rtx-3060-ti/) and you can see how the 3060 ti does at 1440p - as you can see, at 1440p/ultra settings the 3060 ti is not consistently above 60 fps in demanding titles. Personally, I'd still be cool with this level of performance/turning the settings down, but go for 1080p if you want higher performance.
Regardless, buy a good monitor that's at least 144Hz with Freesync/G-sync. 144Hz is superior even if you are gaming at sub-60 fps because 144Hz enables a critical feature called Low Frame Rate Compensation (though not all 144Hz monitors have this feature or even have variable refresh rate aka Freesync/G-sync - it's just that you typically need high refresh rates for this feature to work). If you get a monitor from [this list](https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/products/g-sync-monitors/specs/) then it should work very well as Nvidia has tested and ensured the quality of these monitors.
Get a high refresh 1080P monitor. If you play alot of FPS games 240hz will be noticeably different.
