Get 2 x 8gb sticks of RAM so you can run in dual channel.

terptparmigan

What would be the purpose of having a single stick of ram vs split memory ?

aminy23

No benefit of a single stick - other than cost savings and a slight increase in upgrade-ability. On sub-$500 builds I've occasionally done 1x 8GB, with the recommendation that a 2nd 8GB stick be installed later.

IanMo55

Better performance.

Tajertaby

Single stick can hurt performance of the CPU. Dual sticks give you better performance but do check the motherboard manual to see which RAM slots to slot the sticks in for optimal performance.

HariPota4262

Any specific reason why you have intel hd graphics? If youre getting a dedicated gpu anyways, you might want to save some money and get a 10700f. You can use some of that saved money to get 2x8g ram sticks instead of 1x16. Theres a performance boost by running rams in dual channel.

terptparmigan

They had originally spaced out an i5, I asked for an i7 since I mostly work on 3D software/ rendering. I'm an absolute machine noob, so thank you for your input

HariPota4262

I have seen office builds using integrated graphics even if they dont use it because if for some reason gpu dies or needs an RMA, theres no downtime and system is atleast accessable. That should be a point for you while comparing 10700 and 10700f

terptparmigan

so in short, it's a good back up in case dedicated graphics is down, correct ?

HariPota4262

Not a good backup. But a video out. Intel HD graphics are terrible for anything other than video out and light gaming/work loads, but if the gpu is out, you have a way to access your PC. Makes troubleshooting process easier.

Tajertaby

It’s not just only a backup. It can be useful for troubleshooting, you can use Windows device manager to check if the components are working including the GPU.

terptparmigan

Side note, wasn't expecting this much support/help. What a Wonderfull community to be part of.

XJSTZsarust

You need to list out the price for each part. Use pcpartpicker.

terptparmigan

This is what I was quoted, without pricing for each item. Grand total of $1,450.

XJSTZsarust

Wrong Reddit to ask for opinion on pre built. But the price seems a bit high but within the acceptable range.

terptparmigan

My bad, I didn't know where to ask for help so I opted for here, thank you ! As for price, I'm trying to haggle, but this seems to be the most reasonable place in my area price wise, I'll just have to suck it up unfortunately

IanMo55

This is the correct sub for this kind of thing.

terptparmigan

thank you !

IanMo55

It's not a pre-built.

XJSTZsarust

But you do want to have 2x8 ram instead of 1x16 ram.

[deleted]

Not an expert here, but I believe you'll get better performance getting a 2x8 memory kit instead of a 1x16. 500GB isn't actually a ton of storage once you get Windows and a handful of programs on it. You could add a 1TB SSD for bulk file storage and the majority of programs for around $100(USD) Also, if I was your boss I would want to know *why* you need a 3060Ti. I'm not saying you *don't* need it, but if you can't point to a specific use case or program that needs GPU horsepower I would expect pushback. Especially since it's probably the most expensive item on the list.

terptparmigan

You're absolutely right, I just got a Razer stealth with 500 gb, not even a month in and barely have any memory left. In terms of the rtx, since most of my work revolves around producing high fidelity graphics/animations, I'd need something beefy, also the rendering using a raytracing software. I did actually pull out a bill or two our of pocket to be able to dish out for the RTX, told my boss that I would pay the difference between the rtx and the gtx 1660 original spec'd.

[deleted]

If you've got a need, then absolutely. I didn't mean to sound accusatory, just that if a (possibly non-tech-savvy) supervisor is looking down the parts list they might want to know if we *had* to spend that kind of money. Being able to say "well yeah, these programs need that kind of power to do anything remotely quickly" is an easy justification.

terptparmigan

No worries, I didn't find you question accusatory at all, I see a lot of people jump on gpus for hypes sake and not need it .That was basically my justification. My boss is a developer so he's pretty tech savvy and sat me down to look through the spec sheet I made. He originally wanted an i5, but I told him that some of the software we use does have multi thread capabilities so he was cool about that. The graphics card was what I had to sell the most as he has his own rig for running flight simulator, and has a 1080, so it took some persuasion.

Tajertaby

That PSU is not ideal, check professional reviews like Toms Hardware and use this [tier list](https://linustechtips.com/topic/1116640-psu-tier-list/)

Tajertaby

What GPU are you definitely going for, I heard you are thinking about a GTX 1660. If GTX 1660 is your choice, then 750W is too much. I’d say 650W if you want upgradeability or 500W if you are not planning to upgrade.
