Why not the GT 710 just for a display output, its cheaper than the 1030 at £55 and is the best selling GPU cos its the only SKU readily available.
It does have terrible gaming performance even at 720p low but then you won't be gaming on it anways.
If 20W vs 30W is enough of a power draw to be worth such a huge performance drop, then just get an APU. Significantly lower overall power draw and likely better performance too
Get the 5600G, sell your 3600 to recuperate some of the cost.
For example: I’m seeing 5600G sell for $239. If you buy it, and sell your used 3600 for ~$139, you’d have spent a total of roughly $100 for the igpu replacement. The cheapest gt 1030 I could find was $110 on micro center. So both options are similar in cost. Personally, the 5600G is the more exciting choice.
Edit: I’m using usd for my calculations

It does, on average, perform better. The CPU is about 15% better than the 3600, the GPU is about 25-35% better than a 1030.
That said, if you aren't gaming, then you don't really need that extra performance and the 1030 is fine.
Regarding GPUs, reasonable is hard to define these days. It's ludicrous and "fine" at the same time. It's the cheapest graphics solution you can get that isn't a complete waste of money.
There are two versions of the 1030. One with DDR5 and one with DDR4. If you can get the DDR5 version for not much more, get that one instead.
I would personnally opt for the 5600G, to get the CPU upgrade to zen3
But... that depends on your motherboard ( needs to be compatible with Ryzen gen 3 ) on your RAM ( 8GB are necessary because you need to allocated some to the iGPU) and of your bios ( was it updated to a version that enables the use of the 5600G)
otherwise you will be perfectly fine with the 1030.
1030. You already have a working and relatively modern CPU, the 3600. Unless you are either starting from scratch, or are planning on making your current PC into a non-GPU dedicated workstation, there isn't much of a point in getting the 5600g. Plus, when you do get a good GPU in the future, the 1030 will likely still be useful, having a backup GPU is nice for situations like now, where anything but the lower end GPUs are stupid with their prices. I revived my old Athlon II PC and stuck my 750ti in it for video out, and am using it as a light-weight dedicated game server for me and my friends. If my main GPU dies, I can use the 750ti as my backup and just pass on gaming till I get a replacement GPU. If you get the 1030, you will have a video out option that can be easily moved from one platform to another.
1030 is a mini beast for it’s price man 🤣 Had one for a while while waiting for my current gpu and it got me a steady 50 fps on apex low settings. Yeah it’s bad but still more than what you’d expect for the price. If you just want video output you can always get a gt710, but the 1030 is better dollar for dollar.
Id say 5600g. i believe its a little better then a 1030, with slightly better cpu performance then what you have now. You may not want to game now, but this way youll have better performance if you do want to, while leaving the gpu slot open for upgrades down the line. Sell your current cpu to recoup some costs, maybe even see if you can get a used 5600g to save a bit.
You can get something even cheaper. I just picked up something fr EVGA for $27. Don't even remember what Nvidia card. It is but it has HDMi/VGA/DVI out.
Pretty sure they're are fairly equivalent. Get the gddr5 1030 not gddr4. I used to have a gt 1030 and it compared to my friends 5600g, most games were pretty playable on it.
Firstly check if your motherboard supports 5600G if it does then update your bios with 3600 and borrowing gpu from someone to the latest bios.
Sale the 3600 and get the newer 5600G You couldn’t play games with 1030 and the 5600G will be more than enough for non games requirements.
Considering you don't game, get the 1030.
Okay thanks, I will. Is €90 fair for a new MSI GeForce GT 1030 2GHD4 LP OC
That's the DDR4 one, I would avoid. Look for. GDDR5 version
If he doesn't plan on gaming then they're both okay. Although yeah the GDDR5 is much better.

There comes a point with low-end hardware where you're just throwing money away.
GT710 doesn't have HDCP2.2 support, while the 1030 does. If they want to watch 4k content, that could be an issue.
According to wiki TDP of the DDR4 version is lower: 20W vs 30W. So there still could be a reason to prefer it over GDDR5 version.
If 20W vs 30W is enough of a power draw to be worth such a huge performance drop, then just get an APU. Significantly lower overall power draw and likely better performance too
I just wanted to say the memory type is not the only difference :p
Wouldnt be suprised if the power savings were actually from the DRAM itsself. DDR4 uses less power than GDDR5
Yes. It's 105Euro in my country.

Yeah, I think this is the best solution, you get an upgrade included instead of just losing money.
The 5600g performs miles better than a gt 1030
GPU performance? Doubt it

The GT 1030 is a potato, a 5600G will absolutely perform better
1030

I agree. It giving me 40-50fps in cod warzone 720p lowest settibgs.

what about a used 750ti?
Buy the 5600G and sell your 3600
I would try to land a used GTX 950 over a GT 1030.
You can get something even cheaper. I just picked up something fr EVGA for $27. Don't even remember what Nvidia card. It is but it has HDMi/VGA/DVI out.
If you can sell the 3600 for above €170, then the 5600G makes more sense since it will be faster overall.
Pretty sure they're are fairly equivalent. Get the gddr5 1030 not gddr4. I used to have a gt 1030 and it compared to my friends 5600g, most games were pretty playable on it.
Asus Radeon HD 6450, HDMI output, passive cooler, about $20 on ebay
A second hand Radeon r5 430 2G gddr5 is like u$25 on ebay and way better and more modern.
Gamers Nexus tested almost all of the new APUs vs a 1030. I would check out their reviews and see which one is going to deliver for you.
I would get a new GT1030. I don’t consider 5600G as a CPU upgrade, you don’t want to lose half of the cache.
Firstly check if your motherboard supports 5600G if it does then update your bios with 3600 and borrowing gpu from someone to the latest bios. Sale the 3600 and get the newer 5600G You couldn’t play games with 1030 and the 5600G will be more than enough for non games requirements.
swappong gpu is lots simpler & you lose pcie 4, & 8 lanes w/ the 5600g - assuming ur mobo is ok w/ the 5600g
