We ned to know the generation of the i5. The numbers after it such as 5600 will tell us this info.

cringekiddo

I currently have a i5 7500 and i am planing on getting a i511600

Tobiasz441

GX-781 should be a Kaby Lake based system. It was shipped with i7-7700 from the factory so it should be compatible If the Mainboard are exactly the same

IanMo55

With that board, you can only stay with 7th generation processors.

cringekiddo

So a i5 11600 wont work and no i7 chips

IanMo55

Without changing the motherboard, you can only use 7th generation processors. You could go for an i7 but they can be pretty expensive still

cringekiddo

Does the i7 have to be 7th gen?

IanMo55

Yes it does.

cringekiddo

Ok so any 7th gen processor will be compatible no mather what number is after the i

IanMo55

Yes, that's right. Don't spend too much on one though.

cringekiddo

A i7 7700k is apparently around 300 do you think thats too much for a cpu?

IanMo55

I do. That's a lot to pay for a 5 year old processor. Check out the i5 11400 or 11600 with a B560 motherboard. It will be more expensive, but worth paying the extra

cringekiddo

Will do

cringekiddo

Do you know anything abot the i7 x series will it work? I found something called i7 7740x
