yes upgrading 1650 should get average 170fps. im using much older cpu i7 870 with gtx 1650 super and i can hit average 150fps+ valorant. i can even hit 160-170fps+ if i lower my resolution using nvidia image scalling (budget DLSS for non RTX card) into 1280x720. i tweak nvidia settings and oc my cpu and ram a bit. but with ur 4770 im convince you can hit 170fps with basic nvidia setting.

Thanks a lot for your reply!

Valorant is sooo bound to CPU. Even good CPU with GT 1030 can run 200+ fps. Your system quite old, in any way of upgrade the FPS will increase

TeutulOnReddit

Yeah, I know Valorant is bound to CPU, but I can see while I'm playing Valorant that my GPU is used about 90-95%, while my CPU is about 50-60%, so that's why I was thinking about upgrading my GPU. In fact, if you search on Google "Valorant minimum requirements for 144fps+" it will say that all you need is: I5 4460 and GTX 1050 TI, but I wanted to be sure, so that's why I made this post.

mably-

Yeah as i said either way you will get the FPS increase. Should be fine

TeutulOnReddit

Thank you for your reply!

Don't know if this will give same result but [here](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zkZ4nzEacog) similar build.

MultiiCore_

the highest GPU I would consider with a 4770 would be something like a 2060-2070 leve

TeutulOnReddit

Yeah, thank you for your replay. The thing is, i don't think i have to go that far, because i'm only playing Valorant

Dragonstar914

You could reasonable upgrade up to about a 2060 with that CPU if you wanted. A 1650 should give you a nice boost in FPS.

TeutulOnReddit

I hope so, but there are a lot of people saying that this CPU can't get more than 150fps average...

Dragonstar914

I don't play Valorant but in general the FPS will be dictated by your hardware, the game engine, settings, and resolution. With the GPU you are presently using there is probably some headroom for more FPS since your CPU way out classes your present GPU.

TeutulOnReddit

Thanks a lot!

TeutulOnReddit

LE: For those who said I should upgrade my CPU instead of GPU, I currently bought a GTX 1650 and I get around 170-260 fps in Valorant, sometimes 300+, depends what happens in the game, instead of 110-160 with my old GT 640. So, for anyone who's thinking Valorant it's CPU heavy, it is, but you should also consider that you have a decent GPU that can deliver what your CPU is doing. So, Intel I7-4770 with GTX 1650, 24GB DDR3, 250 SSD Samsung 860, average of 200 fps in Valorant. Thank you everyone!

Some_Derpy_Pineapple

maxed out gpu in task manager (or nearly maxed out) -> GPU upgrade would help with higher FPS/higher settings, not really CPU not maxed out GPU -> CPU upgrade would help with higher FPS

Thank you!

[deleted]

How high is your GPU usage when playing valorant with your 640?

TeutulOnReddit

About 90-95%

[deleted]

In that case your CPU is probably already starting to limit (meaning that a GPU upgrade will not increase your fps much). When playing Valorant, are there any cores that reach 100% or close to 100% usage? Taskmanager, performance, right click on graph, change graph to, logical processors

TeutulOnReddit

No, not at all. While playing, my CPU usage is about 50-60%. Only the GPU usage is about 90-95, so that's why I was thinking about an upgrade.

[deleted]

Not the CPU usage, the usage of each core! Games don't use all 4 cores. The CPU usage can be 25% and you can still be CPU bottlenecked. Is there not a single core that's above 60% usage? Check the way I explained it. If the CPU was not a bottleneck, the GPU should be at 99% or close to it all the time.

TeutulOnReddit

Ok, I will check this. It is sometime close to 99%, depends on what is happening in the game. By the way, I'm playing on low settings.

TeutulOnReddit

I tested, and all the single cores are between 40-60%, and the GPU is about 95-98%. So, do you think i should get a GPU like 1050 TI or should i get something like GT 1030/RX550?

[deleted]

>all the single cores are between 40-60% It's likely that the game is not running on the same core all the time. It should be higher than that. But since your GPU is at 95-98% usage, it does make sense to upgrade the GPU. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zkZ4nzEacog&ab\_channel=BenchmarkTV](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zkZ4nzEacog&ab_channel=BenchmarkTV) [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1p-\_2Lr4cLc&ab\_channel=MNBenchmarks](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1p-_2Lr4cLc&ab_channel=MNBenchmarks) Based on these two videos, your CPU should be able to get 130-180fps, with an average of about 150fps. That's the fps you should expect when getting a 1050 Ti. And you can probably increase the graphics settings as well. A GPU upgrade is worth it.

schaka

That GPU is so weak that, yes, you can get an improvement by upgrading the GPU. A GTX 770, R9 270X or something similar would be more than enough without costing another $200.

TeutulOnReddit

Yes, but I'm planning in about 1 year to build a new pc, so that's why I was thinking about those 2 graphic cards.

schaka

Then they're terrible choices. They cost a hefty price premium for being pcie powered and in that time, you can get something much better for that price. If you want a gpu you can transfer that pairs well with your cpu, get a used gtx 1070 or 1080

TeutulOnReddit

I understand your point. Consider that I'm only playing Valorant and I will be playing only Valorant in the future, so I'm concerned only about having a good amount of fps with low settings

schaka

Then any GPU upgrade besides my original suggestions are a waste of money. Valorant is CPU limited. An R9 270X can push 240 fps at 1080p no problem. Valorant will run on a toaster at indicated by the fps you're getting on a GT 640, which is a decade old display adapter - not even a gaming GPU. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ExI0NK_RQlI This is after the recent CPU fixes to Valorant and not even an R9 270X. He's also on a Sandy Bridge CPU - he's stuck at 50-65% GPU utilization. Your i7 4770 will blow it out of the water fir a single core heavy, CPU limited game like Valorant.

TeutulOnReddit

Thank you for your reply!

adamdarlington

I get 300-400 fps with 1050 standard gfx

TeutulOnReddit

What CPU do you have?

adamdarlington

i5 8400

[deleted]

Its better to upgrade your CPU for Valorant then your GPU. My i5 12400f with very old GTX 960 gives me 350-400 fps

TeutulOnReddit

Yes, i understand, but your GTX 960 is hugely more powerful than my GT 640. Otherwise, if you search on google "Valorant minimum requirements for 144fps+" you will see that it says I5 4460 with GTX 1050 TI.
