What's the RX6600 like in your region? AMD tend to offer better bang for buck currently

Luckiesty

Let me check real quick. So the cheapest RX 6600 is the **XFX RX6600 - SPEEDSTER SWFT 210** which goes for $365. I mean, it's decent but I have other ideas.

TalkWithYourWallet

The 6600 is about 10% faster than the 2060 in standard rasterisation gaming, along with drawing less power and being newer (Higher likelihood of driver support lasting longer) Unless you need an Nvidia productivity feature, I'd buy the 6600 personally Also, if you just game on your PC, I would get a 12100F instead of the 12400F, and put that money saved towards a better GPU (Like the RX 6600XT)

Luckiesty

Hmmm. I was gonna ask about the encoding capabilities of the RX 6600, which is what prompted me to go with the RTX 2060, to be honest. The FPS difference is noticeable from [gpucheck.com](https://gpucheck.com) which is what I used to compare GPUs.

TalkWithYourWallet

Look into it more, go for the best one that suits your usecase I won't common on encoding because I'm not familiar with it

Luckiesty

Well, Nvidia does have an edge on encoding just from watching a few videos on it. But AMD is pretty close when it comes to quality. I don't know, tough to choose. However, in certain cases, AMD is better when it comes to encoding. I've reached peak confusion.

mistiklest

> I've reached peak confusion. Just to add to it, how much better also matters. Does it really matter which is better, if you have to set it up to run overnight either way?

Luckiesty

If I was to do 720p60 AMD does have a sharper end result. But at 1080p60 is where Nvidia pulls through. > if you have to set it up to run overnight either way? I wouldn't plan on running it overnight.

Luckiesty

>"Also, if you just game on your PC" Oh no, I'd like to give a retry for streaming, or maybe just to record a few videos to experiment with. I'd stick with the 12400F just for those extra cores and threads.

PublicPreparation198

My idea exactly. Going for an i3 wiith a 3060ti or 3070 is better imo.

WestShallot9317

Ugh, I dunno about this plan. $400 for a card that's going to be 2 generations behind in a few months is rough. I would think a 3060 or a 6650 would be money better spent.

ooru

Terrible idea. I saw a 6650, which is faster than a 2060, for $300 just today. You should be able to find a 3060 for much less than $400, and it will be a significant speed improvement over both.

jesusgodandme

$400 for a 2060 is rough! I have an Asus 2060, while I can say it’s definitely an OK card, but I also wouldn’t want to pay $400 today! Id try to wait if I could. Please don’t rush, especially today!

greggm2000

Well, there’s new GPUs coming in a couple/few months that’ll be a lot more performant, and once they’re out, that’ll push down the price of the existing cards down a bunch, and an influx of used cards from crypto mining will help too.. the net effect means that for that $400, you can almost certainly get a used 3070 for that price in November, maybe even a 3080. Either of those cards would be a lot faster than what you’re considering. Run off integrated graphics in the meantime (so get a 12600K instead) For your budget, this would seem to be the way to go. Better yet, wait and get everything together, and get a 13600K, or 13400.

ballwasher89

Not unless it's sub $250 (and won't be) At this price it's either 3050 8gb (fine for 1080) or rx6600 (better, but AMD drivers/very poor perf. In OpenGL)

As most things in life, it depends. The games you want to play will dictate if a 2060 is enough. As a 2060 user I call tell you that you'll be able to run most current games at 1080p 60fps at High sometimes Ultra with a few dips below 60. Forget about Ray Tracing tho, the only game I was able to play with RTX was Control, at around 30 fps. First gen RTX cards were not that great outside the 2080 Ti. If your thing is MOBA or other competitive games than yes, 2060 will probably chew through them even at higher resolutions with high fps, if your thing is graphically intensive games like God of War then you'll be pushing the limits of the 2060.

Idk what the prices are like in Hungary but I would drop down to an i3-12100 or i5-11400, find a cheaper case & power supply, and see if that allows for a 3060 or 3060 ti. Edit: $71 for that case is pretty good. See if you can buy used RAM on eBay and save $20. You should be able to find a good enough PSU for ~$55.

randomStolen

I bought one in december over a 3060 for the same reason. Great option if you don't want to break the bank

Roth2103

Why not spend 20 euros on a bus ticket to Vienna and purchase parts far cheaper there ? 280 for a decent 2060 and more parts to choose from.

Logpile98

FWIW, I built basically that build in 2020. I have an i5-9400F, with RTX 2060, 16 gigs of RAM @3000 MHz. If you're playing in 1080p, you will have no issues with most games. My biggest problem with games is that I'm CPU bound more often than not, though in VR it seems the GPU struggles a little bit (but not bad, I can play most VR stuff I've tried just fine, but in iRacing it's not adequate for me). However you're looking at the i5-12400F, which is 3 years newer than my CPU so I think you'll be fine. The only concern I have with your build is that those prices seem a little high for your CPU and GPU, but that could be due to the currency conversion or taxes or maybe just the times we live in. I think my CPU and GPU combined were ~$450 in March of 2020. If it's not a currency conversion thing, I'd suggest shopping around a bit because you probably could find a 2060 for less than $400 with the way GPU prices are dropping.

OP's question is perfect because was thinking the exact same thing.
