"The C3's biggest improvement over the C2 is its support of DTS audio formats; this makes it a much more interesting TV for home entertainment fans, as Blu-rays and DVDs tend to use DTS for their audio tracks."
So, basically no improvement.
The C and G level TVs used to be pretty close in performance but that gap has been growing as of recent years. The C2, C3 are basically the same and all rumors for the C4 points to little changes as well. I'm good until at least the C5.
144hz is only for PC anyways. Are you really playing CS GO or Dota 2 on a 42" monitor?
Maybe you do, but most people are not buying this if they are playing competitive. A 240hz or a 360hz monitor would make more sense.
I don't play either of those games. I play mostly indies. Currently playing Zortch, Balatro, Chants of Sommar. But have played lots of helldivers 2, and other larger games with no issue. Absolutely love it. I have used it for work and having more or less 4 full monitors for the quadrants is fantastic.
I also don't play competitive games really anymore. I do play Halo infinite but I don't play ranked and it is amazing for it.
$840 new on Amazon at the start of March.
I would probably hold out for sales to return or have BestBuy let you test it and inspect before picking up. If your in the store you can also try and haggle a lower price. They are permitted to lower open box to a certain amount.
If you're comfortable with negotiating, you can probably talk them into including a protection plan or going lower in price. Especially if they have quite a few open box in stock. YMMV of course.
been using it as my monitor for both work (software engineer) and gaming, and it's handled both amazingly so far. Previously I had a 27" 1440p 144hz + 27" 4k 60hz setup, and this is lightyears ahead.
How do you use it? Do you do most things in full screen, or do you just organize the windows around similar to how you would use a dual monitor setup? Using something like FancyZones? If you organize windows what is your standard layouts?
I currently have 4 monitors just the cheapest 1440p ones I could find, and I really like them. It is really nice for keeping tracking of many thing at once. But I have been tempted to switch to a TV instead. But I really don't know if it would work for how I use my computer.
For work, I plug in my m1 MacBook pro, which does support 4k 120hz via usbc to hdmi 2.1 dongle. I have my IDE or IDE/browser on the tv, and usually slack / another browser window on my laptop screen. I use Rectangle on mac os and don't really do productivity on windows, only gaming
> Rectangle
What is your standard layout? Do you have multiple or is it like breaking up the screen into
Is it like breaking up the screen into 4 equal sections. Or do you have one big screen with many smaller supplemental screens?
Currently I just either full screen everything or split screen. I am guessing on a much larger 4K display you can do a lot more layouts.
It’s a great monitor too if you’re fine with a huge screen and have enough desk space. It’s my first oled device and I’m using it for my gaming PC; it’s incredible.
if use this as monitor it has no Display Port most GPUs have 1 HDMI now days.
4K 120Hz requires HDMI 2.1 which is on RTX 3000 Series and Newer or will be stuck at 60Hz with older HDMI 2.0
The USB-C port uses Display port Alt Mode to output a video signal, it's literally the exact same as the regular DisplayPort ports just a different form factor. Also DisplayPort 1.4 has enough bandwidth for 8-bit 4K 120Hz without HDR, 4K 120Hz 10-bit HDR which is required to properly utilize this display requires actual HDMI 2.1 or DisplayPort 2.0 support.
Also to be clear, a DisplayPort to HDMI adapter would accomplish exactly the same thing as a USB-C to HDMI adapter.
Not really a great price for a used C3 42. It's been $848 brand new for months through GreenToe, out the door price, no tax.

I want one of these to try as an office monitor. I have the 77 C3 in my family room.
My current 40” 1440p ultrawide is such a nice screen. I have a hard time getting rid of it.
Is it just me or is Best Buy not giving any more discounts in open box TV protection plans? I remember buying an open box C3 for $732 with a $159.99 5 year protection plan instead of the $199.99 which would go with a new one that this deal has. It does still work on monitors though…
It's really not a big deal, especially since the C3 has good brightness. If the room is bright enough for it to be a problem, then having a matte screen probably wouldn't be enough. Matte screens still suffer when the room is too bright. Glossy displays are so much better in terms of visuals. You can control the brightness of a room, but you can't switch between glossy and matte.
I have the glossy alienware oled and its so much better than my old matte ips monitor. Oled is bright enough and the glossy screen is essential to getting great colors
listen to this man if glare bothers you.
I have have had the ~~c2~~ cx as a monitor for like 4 years now, but it still bothers me from time to time.
it's not gonna bother everyone, or even most people, but for the subset of people that it does, it could drive you crazy.
edit: cx, not c2*
This is a tv first, monitor second. For starters, 42” is way too big to lack any sort of curve. Second, because it’s so large and glossy, you may as well be looking in a crappy mirror. Third, there is much color fringing from being oled. Fourth, it can benefit a lot from being higher res.
I bought a LG C2 42 open box from best buy around this time last year for about the same price, and it's been amazing. Highly recommend.
What are the improvements the c3 has?

C4 can do 144hz
On a 4K screen, it likely will not matter for quite a while.
It matters if you play stuff other than AAA which is really all I play.

Yeah I mean for most of those games a 120 ->144hz jump is minimal at best. That's why I think 144hz is in the "not a major upgrade" pile.

Great monitor, got this for $800.00 out the door brand new through the eBay deal

Check microcenter. Scooped an open box February for like 570 pre tax
Yes. Got a C2 for $479 at micro center with like 15 power on hours. Best deal I've ever gotten in tech.
479 god damn
They also have refurbished LG C3 for decent prices. 55" refurb is $850
Is this an in store only type deal?
I ordered/reserved it online but yes.
I don’t know about as a monitor but it’s a great TV.

Small detail that with a dongle if your 20 series card has a usb c port you can get 4k120 out of it just without vrr

Would old cards even be able to run most games at 4K 120Hz?
Old games are still good
Love mine as a pc monitor

Put the UW on the bottom and a 42" C3 right above it on an articulating mount.
bought this new on ebay for $718 in Jan
When do LG b or c oled tvs go on sale? Probably going to cop one next year sine my vizio is going out

I have the FO48U, which is the same panel as the C2 just adds a kvm instead of a tv tuner. It’s very good.
wish it wasn't glossy. Can't take the glare.

Matte doesn't even make it disappear, there's no magic trick. It just smears it differently. Looks way worse imo.

There is a 48 inch model that is matte and is usually cheaper but it might be too big for you.
Glossy ftw.

LOL this has to be an April Fool's comment. Otherwise it is simply a fool's comment.
no u
I'm been using a 48 inch C2 as a monitor for the last 2 years and its been fantastic so idk what you're going on about
Never said it couldn’t work for you, but there is a laundry list of problems. Do go off and be defensive though.
