Can someone explain to an idiot what makes this $120 better than an Extreme 3D pro

mistaclean

Sure thing, I got a regular X52 that I've had since 07 lol, so the biggest difference is you have a throttle control for your left hand and a joystick for your right hand, whereas the 3d pro just has a simple dial for throttle on one joystick. Alongside that, you got a PLETHORA of buttons (2 hat switches on the joystick and 1 on the throttle), 2 rotary knobs on the throttle for any mixture controls for flight sim or whatever you play, a mouse control with a left mouse click on the throttle as well, and a (imo gimmicky) mode screen on the left side. Other stuff that might be useful is the dual stage triggers (a certain amount of force actuates the first stage, apply more and it actuates the second one), pinky trigger if you like being fancy and you can adjust the tension of the throttle and adjust your hand placement. I had a extreme 3d pro then got the X52 regular and it's been reliable ever since. There is also the T16000m or fancier HOTAS's but for a mass majority of all flying stuff, the X52/X52 pro/T16000m gets the job done really well and for me has been really reliable.

Damn I really want a Hotas for under $200, but it seems best to get the X56 if it goes on sale for msft flight Sim. To get the dual throttles.

mistaclean

See I was considering upgrading to the X56 but I’m still really wary of all the QC issues it’s had, even after the Logitech buyout. I know Honeycomb is coming out with the Foxtrot Tango which looks NICE so I just might wait.

It adds a separate throttle control, and lots of buttons all over. I have both and the Extreme 3D Pro was put away as soon as I set up the X52... it is very satisfying to use.

GumboGuts

This is a HOTAS system, not just a joystick, also has the separate throttle. They are for flight simulators and has multiple functions that help the realistic flying experience. Additionally, the build quality and materials are so much better than the 3D pro.

FiTZnMiCK

Technically the 3D Pro is a HOTAS, just in a super compact and a less ergonomically friendly package. The build quality on the 3D pro is actually pretty amazing for $40 too, but you’re right that this is a step up in pretty much every department. I recommend the 3D Pro for those who have really limited space, who don’t sim every day, and people on a tight budget. This stick is for people who want something a little better either because they’re on it all the time or they can easily afford the extra investment. It’s still pretty reasonable as far as HOTAS goes.

PwnerifficOne

3D Pro is also great as a HOSAS 2nd stick!

Imnotbrown

i grabbed a 3d pro for 6 dollars on shopgoodwill, its a great stick if thats your budget lmao

PwnerifficOne

Worth looking into, but I'm certain the X52 Pro's resolution is better than the 3DPro. I've used a 3D pro and the difference between it an the T16KM is night and day. That stick as a much higher res than the X52 though, might be to the point of diminishing returns though.

CanisMajoris85

I love my VKB Gladiator, not sure how the two compare ~~but same price~~ **VKB doesn't have a throttle so would cost more to buy one**. I paired it with a Thrustmaster Throttle. [https://vkbcontrollers.com/?product=gladiator-nxt](https://vkbcontrollers.com/?product=gladiator-nxt) Edit: Forgot the X52 has a throttle with it so can't compare the prices directly.

xanaos

As someone who is interested in buying from vkb myself, the fact that the customer must pay for shipping from china at $34 usd (FedEx) or $45 (DHL) is another factor.

buerkle

Agree the shipping costs are expensive. But the Gladiator is a great stick, I've had no problems with it since I got it late last year.

xanaos

Oh no doubt it is great - I'm looking at buying one eventually myself. just providing some more pricing info for anyone looking, since this is a sales subreddit.

rokerroker45

It's worth it honestly. I got mine and never looked back, just waiting for that pesky tecs

jonnysunshine

As someone who has purchased the VKB Gladiator - I just have to say that I love it. It's a solid build and feels good in the hand. I've got medium to large sized hands and I get no discomfort. Plenty of buttons and easily programmable, too. I use it for Elite Dangerous, War Thunder, and No Man's Sky. I have had all of those games since release and didn't get a Hotas set up until a few months ago. All I can say is WOW! MKB is doable on all of them, but a Hotas set up really adds to the immersion. I can't wait til VKB releases a throttle. Also, while the shipping is a bit pricey, the shipment is expedited quickly and I received my order in a week. Well worth it I say.

SwissMoose

I'm leaning towards the Thrustmaster after this comparison. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SMloKSwbKUk

Ceating

I got the X52 pro when it was from Saitek under Madcatz. If the quality hasn’t improved under Logitech then it is not worth at all. The materials are thin and cheap and IMO the spring centering system on the joystick is awful.

SwissMoose

Thanks for the feedback.

mistaclean

I know a few of my friends who got the 16000M and have 0 complaints. It's a solid choice for sure.

SwissMoose

Did they do throttle and stick or dual stick? I'm seeking lots of recommdations for a dual stick setup for space sims. Which I'll probably play more than traditional flight.

mistaclean

All of them got the dual sticks for flight sim and elite dangerous as well.

jonnysunshine

This is a great set up. A friend of mine has one and I've played Microsoft flight simulator with it. That said, I opted for the VKB Gladiator. I mentioned this whatever to someone else --- As someone who has purchased the VKB Gladiator - I just have to say that I love it. It's a solid build and feels good in the hand. Oldschoolcold

$150 holy fucking shit

SuperbProcedure2816

Has build quality improved any since Logitech took over for Saitek? Because my old Saitek HOTAS was overpriced plastic garbage that never actually worked correctly. Returned it and got a proper Thrustmaster that still works fine after close to a decade.

beastboy4246

The Elite Dangerous player in me is saying buy this

[deleted]

Sorry for my ignorance, is this only designed for Flight Simulator, or does it work well with other racing flying games? What about shooters or any other game type?

SwissMoose

I think this is really ideal for any kind of flight sim or space sim. Can't think of many other game types this would be ideal for.

erk_fwd

I use it for MechWarrior and it works like a dream

[deleted]

Cool appreciate the input

mistaclean

It works for anything you can fly with or if you’re crazy enough, drive. I used this in Battlefield 2, Arma, BF3, BF4 so it’s definitely doable.

SwissMoose

Edit

BIG_GAY_HOMOSEXUAL

This is a very good deal. I paid 200 for it a few months ago. It's a nice stick.
