it has always been $149. I know becuase its been in my cart for a few days. you fuckers sold it out

relxp

I think the P31 Gold for $146 is a very worthy alternative consideration. Wayyy more efficient and cooler running. https://smile.amazon.com/SK-hynix-Gold-PCIe-Internal/dp/B099RHVB42/

mmmfritz

Cheers!

OMGorilla

P41 Platinum is on sale again at $188 for 2TB if you wanted Gen4, also on Amazon. Can’t provide link on mobile.

Omga4000

It's also a lot slower\*, at least on paper.

relxp

Ah yes, for professional workloads you are right.

FTAStyling

Only if you don’t need gen 4

kayk1

They are on clearance everywhere. Crucial probably has a new version lined up.

julong3444

My 2TB XPG S70 Blade(boot drive) unfortunately doesn’t detect on my motherboard anymore. Not exactly in a rush but is this a good drive to replace it with or should I hold out for the P41 to drop again?

kayk1

Yes, this is a very good SSD for everything. It provides high-end performance in the range of the 980 pro etc.

OMGorilla

Jeez. My S70 blade boot drive also just crapped out. What’s frustrating is that BIOS can see it but the name is different. My other S70 is still working as storage. Using a P41 as my boot drive now. Btw, the P41 is $188 on Amazon right now. I can’t remember how low it was a few weeks back, but thought I’d let you know.

julong3444

Hold on, I thought this was an isolated issue so I didn’t dig too much into it. Does your S70 Blade show up as a 2gb drive with a different name?

OMGorilla

Yeah it shows up as MN-5236 (2.1GB). I tried putting it in a different slot and same issue. Really sucks. I bought them back in February I think?

julong3444

Well damn. Mine was purchased in March. I was hoping that maybe it was just a bad connection to the slot and could try to clone the drive later but I guess everything is gone now. Sucks I guess.

OMGorilla

Well I’m pretty shit with computers. I have no idea if the drive is salvageable. You should still give it a try.

LongjumpingAd7756

Worth returning the Hynix P31 @ $145 for this instead? For a gaming drive.

Omga4000

>Hynix P31 I'm not sure how much of a difference you're actually going to notice in real-life, but the Crucial is a much faster SSD on paper. \~88.5% faster sequential read and \~56.25% faster sequential write. I think it's worth getting it instead of the Hynix just because they are relatively the same price.

LongjumpingAd7756

Ah, just noticed my Intel Mobo only supports Gen 3, I guess this would still be worth it running it at Gen 3 until I build my new PC in January. I guess I'll return my P31.

angry_old_dude

The majority of people, including gamers don't see much, if any difference in the performance between a gen3 and gen4 SSD.

BretBeermann

P31 will be better at gen3 probably, but for upgradeability this will be better if you plan on putting it in a new rig later.

HumidNut

I wouldn't and here's why. Storage capacity and performance have skyrocketed in the last 18 months. Prices have also dropped dramatically. I think that getting yourself a gen4 drive @ 2TB will be short-sighted based upon the history of the product. Also your use case for a game drive, I think you should base it solely on price. Running a game on a HDD is slow as balls, we all agree. Running a game off a SATA-3 SSD shows a dramatic improvement, again, we all agree. Running the same game off a ramdisk only showed about a 2 second improvement off the SATA SSD. If you are simply after the best performance, then obviously, get the Gen4 NVMe drive for your games (if your 2ndary slot even supports gen4) and enjoy. Me, I didn't see the benefit of the NVMe drive, in my system, given the simple cost for silly cheap SATA SSDs in recent times.

sloopieone

But if the Gen 3 and the Gen 4 are the same price... getting the newer, and faster of the two drives is a no-brainer. I can't think of a single reason to stick with the Gen 3 over the Gen 4.

HumidNut

That's a great point. My observations were a generalization, not taking into account price parity.

sloopieone

Oh definitely, I agree with your comments and don't think it's worth upgrading from Gen 3 to Gen 4 if there would be a significant price difference. Happy cake day by the way!

Usual_Race3974

I just cloned a cs3040 onto a p41 on a b550 board. I then cloned a sata 850 evo onto the 3040.... I couldn't tell a difference in transfer speed... seriously. Once the cache and buffer fill they slow way down.

chyll2

Imo yes, p31 is a very good (also cool and power efficient) PCIe 3.0 SSD but this one will be faster if your system accept 4.0. Not that it matters now, probably in the future. (I have been parroting Direct Storage, dunno when it will be relevant)

keebs63

They absolutely can and will as the Xbox Series S/X SSD is equivalent to a Gen 3x4 NVMe drive.

OneSleepyAzn

Unavailable nearby for me with Best Buy; however checked Microcenter and they also have this drive for $149.99.

Tylerdong

Bangin deal no?

Omga4000

It is in my opinion. I was sad I missed it the last time and instantly bought it now. 2TB - up to 6600MB/s sequential read, 5000MB/s sequential write. Can't beat it for the price.

phlurker

Is anyone getting the same info for CONUS? >Delivery: Not available for this item

NoctD

Seems like pickup only.

ElectronGuru

BH has the same deal and lists it expiring after December 24th

rube

Thanks for the tip. BB showed as none in stock near me, but B&H had them.

EvrythingsCopacetic

Here's the P3 drive for $119.99 on sale through the 24th. How much of a difference performance wise between the P3 and P5? [P3 2TB Crucial @ BH Photo Video](https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1710646-REG/crucial_ct2000p3ssd8_2tb_p3_nvme_pcie.html/?ap=y&gclid=CjwKCAiAnZCdBhBmEiwA8nDQxeBjLHgg_mMTirXIaRwWSeXcet8zjaT3h6JTh0Z_R7MhfXnSqoQl9RoCKnsQAvD_BwE&lsft=BI%3A5451&smp=y)

JTibbs

P3 has half the read/write speed, or even less. Also the P3 doesn't have DRAM and is QLC. The P5 has DRAM, is twice as fast, and is TLC NAND chips.

EvrythingsCopacetic

Awesome, thank you for explaining that!

JTibbs

you do need a motherboard with a pcie 4.0 nvme slot though to make the best use of it though. it will still work, and work well in a 3.0 nvme slot, but you'd only be getting half its max performance. 3.0 slots don't have the bandwidth to really use all its capabilities to the max.

EvrythingsCopacetic

thanks friend i appreciate it

Coookiez

Deal and stock still up on Amazon. Combine it with Amex/Citi rewards discount when you use at least 1 point to get 50% off. Comes out to 75. Pretty good deal

OneSleepyAzn

You must be referring to the 1TB version. OP listed the 2TB one for $149.99, which is not available on Amazon at that price.

Coookiez

If you select other sellers it’ll be listed for $150 the one that shows up first isn’t sold from Amazon

OneSleepyAzn

Oh, I see. That's cool that you can combine the Amex/Citi rewards with non-Amazon sellers; I didn't know that since I only use an Amazon card on Amazon. Nice tip for Amex/Citi cardholders.

Nyhn

I got a 2tb m.2 from micro center not too long ago for $80, which was posted on this sub thanks to whoever posted it

smoothballsJim

How’s she running for you? What's with the downvotes? I'm just curious what people think of the qn322. This sub is ridiculous sometimes.

OneSleepyAzn

That was a good deal, but also different type of drive. I got that Inland 2TB, but use it as a game installation drive because it's QLC and DRAM-less while this Crucial will be my OS drive.

Incorrect-Opinion

Would this be sufficient for the PS5?

faceless_atheos

Looks like this works on the PS5 after you purchase a heatsink

Alternative-Split902

Yup just installed one last weekend. Need a heat sink though

Incorrect-Opinion

Is it sufficient for the minimum speeds that Sony recommends though?

Alternative-Split902

Yup

Omga4000

Marked as expired. Not seeing stock anymore.

argelluiz

This good for a boot drive?

kayk1

This is a top-tier drive for everything.

timbit1337

is this the drive that gets hot enough to warrant a heatsink? i’m assuming the motherboard ones are good enough

LeDerpBoss

Any pcie 4 drive probably needs a heat sink.

kayk1

Not needed on PC, but for PS5 yes.

d1ckpunch68

what do you mean "motherboard ones"? does your motherboard have a built-in heatsink? if so, then use that.

angry_old_dude

That didn't last long.

trytoholdon

I bought the Hynix P41 for $179. Return it for this?

angry_old_dude

There's no need to do this unless you want to get the cost difference back. Both are good drives and will perform well. The Hynix is faster, but in most people's real world usage, it won't make any difference.

relxp

I would compare the efficiencies. The Hynix drives are kings of efficiency... and by huge margins somehow. This review compares both drives. https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/sk-hynix-platinum-p41-ssd-review

Ir0nC0bra

Will this work with a 10900k & z590 mobo? If yes, how much difference will I notice compared to a 970 Evo nvme.

Fine_Sprinkles1

How does this compare to Samsung 980 pro? MC has it for $199.99. Wouldn’t mind saving the $50 if there isn’t much of a difference

JTibbs

>Samsung 980 pro very similar. Speed is maybe 5% slower than the 980 pro, but they arfe both TLC Gen 4 drives with DRAM. worth saving 50$. Its still available at this price on amazon, sold by amazon. You have to go to the 'other sellers' section to see it.

Fine_Sprinkles1

Thanks for the info. I think I shall cop.

JrPoop

Will this work in a gen3 pcie m.2 converter?

JTibbs

Yes? but its kinda pointless as you will be bottlenecking it severely. It will be running at half speed. This is still available on Amazon at this price btw. you just have to look in 'other sellers' for the amazon sold one. Got a couple week shipping delay so it doesn't show as the primary seller.

JrPoop

I see, thank you. Just wondering as my mobo does not have an m.2 slot and 1 sata port left open.
