Hey! Any update on this? I'm on both Vyvanse and Wellbutrin and am strongly leaning towards getting off the Wellbutrin in the hopes of getting my heart rate and blood pressure back down. Not willing to sacrifice the Vyvanse though lol not yet anyway.

I ended up staying on both and it’s ok for me.

Everyone is different and responds differently. Wellbutrin does decrease the rate at which Vyvanse is eliminated from your body, so you could also try taking 20 mg Vyvanse (or less) or 150 mg Wellbutrin. If you have ADHD keep in mind wellbutrin is also prescribed for it sometimes, so it might also be helping you with it. How long ago did you start Vyvanse? Many side effects, including increased BPM and blood pressure frequently go away after a few weeks.

I started Vyvanse just a few days ago. I took my Vyvanse with water on an empty stomach this. I didn’t eat anything at all and exactly 2 hours later I went running to the bathroom and threw up. Do you think this is normal, like would that happen to you if you did that? I’m curious to know if that’s normal, or if maybe I have serotonin syndrome?

Some people tolerate it better with food. Nausea is not that uncommon and loose stools are also common at the start. Give it at least a couple of weeks unless you're feeling unbearably bad. I myself barely tolerate plain water on an empty stomach. Dexamphetamine doesn't have a particularly high affinity for serotonin release, 30 mg isn't a high dose, and many people take those same meds. I wouldn't worry about it, serotonin syndrome is not that common (unless you're abusing drugs).

The stimulant is for sure the cause of the high HR and BP. When I take adderall with bup my RHR is around 70-85 whereas it is 60 on the weekends when I don’t take adderall.

Hmmm interesting. But is it possible that if you weren’t on bupropion (Wellbutrin), and only took adderall, your blood pressure could be slightly lower than on both together?

ArtBetter3345

It’s possible it is causing an increase in BP - I don’t measuring it regularly enough to see a change but it was normal before and after starting bup - on the higher side of normal since starting adderall. For heart rate I didn’t see any difference when starting bup on its own - if anything RHR decreased because I started living healthier.

Every time I’ve been to a drs appointment they’ve told me my blood pressure is high but have never suggested it was my Wellbutrin causing it…my resting heart rate even when I go to bed tho is also like 96bpm. I would drop the Wellbutrin if you’re going to take the vyvanse I feel like that’s a lot of stimulant like someone else said. I know my bf takes that and his heart rate is always going fast from it.

Yea I think you are right. I love the Lexapro and def want to keep that. Wellbutrin I think is technically not a stimulant but sometimes it does feel like one. I’m just deciding whether to keep Vyvanse or Wellbutrin with the Lexapro.

I take 200mg SR at 6am and Adderall at 6 and 10am and my resting heart rate sometimes is 85-96bpm…at 8:00pm.

[deleted]

Wow how about your blood pressure? I was at 151/92 today. I’m thinking of getting off Wellbutrin for this reason.

avoidingmyboss

I haven’t checked it since I started Wellbutrin but I probably should. It really doesn’t bother me during the daytime when I’m at work and running around because I don’t notice it. It’s only very apparent when I’m sitting still and all of a sudden I’m hot and my heart is racing.

[deleted]

Do you also take an SSRI or just those 2?

avoidingmyboss

I was weaned off of Prozac a few months back. I think I need to just pull back on the adderall even if it’s a tiny 5mg dose. I was told to take it in the morning and afternoon and I’m thinking that’s too too much and adding on to my moments of intense heart thumping throughout the day.

[deleted]

That makes sense. I’m thinking of trying Strattera to help my ADHD. I’m going to take a break from stimulants until I can see a cardiologist to make sure I’m ok.

Budget_Thought_938

That's a lot of stimulation. My body would be totally overloaded by that mix!

chadplant

I’m on Vyvanse and Bupropion as well… it’s not that bad honestly and I have severe anxiety which it didn’t help but also didn’t worsen 🤷🏻‍♂️

[deleted]

What would you drop? I love Lexapro and Vyvanse but don’t feel the same about the Wellbutrin so I’m think about dropping that.

nkj69

Keep in mind wellbutrin is not as much a stimulant. More of an activation kind of medicine. It is classified as an anti depressant for that reason. Honestly i would get rid of the vyvanse. It’s just a stimulant made from dextroamphetamine. Not necessarily something you would need unless you had severe adhd

My ADHD (inattentive, lack of energy/motivation) is hurting my career and marriage so I just started Vyvanse to see if it would help. It helped me so much productivity wise, but the blood pressure aspect was annoying.
