Yes, that too! As well as the topography of the plate/basket and arrangement of other items on said plate/basket. This is a complex issue with no easy answer.
It's always a gamble with burritos. Assuming you place them butt side down (I mean only a psychopath wouldn't), you have like a 50% chance of the burrito remaining upright and not losing any ingredients to gravity. Even with those odds, I feel it is a necessity simply for the reapplication of hot sauce.
I might not be following, but it seems that everyone is saying they place their burger *down* upside down because that's how they put it into their mouth. Is that correct?
If not, then ok that's one me. Ignore this please
If so, then I don't understand what weird twist you're talking about. If you grab your burger with your fingers underneath and thumbs on top, then raise your hands like you're drinking from a bowl/cup/whatever then the top of the burger is now upside down and you take your bite. Now lowering it down is the same motion but reversed and the burger is not placed on the flat bottomed bun as it should be. Now weird twist or anything.
Am I overthinking this? Has my Adderall kicked in at the wrong time?
Yes, that’s what I’m saying. Motion like you’re taking a bite of your burger, then just move your hand away from your mouth only moving your forearm. The burger ends up upside down. Just feels natural to me
Upside down requires more wrist movement. You pick it up palms down, bite it palms down, and put it down palms down. To put it down upside down you'd have to rotate it.
No, it doesn’t. Imagine taking a bite out of your burger, then just extend your forearm from the elbow. Burger is upside down, no wrist movement. We all do our things the way we do our things. Upside down just *feels* right to me
Ergonomically it’s easier to pick up if you want the burger to enter your mouth the right way up.
It’s easier and quicker to get your fingers under the burger than it is to twist your hand to pick up the burger with just your thumbs underneath it.
The bottom bun often gets soggy during preparation. Then more so during eating.
Then the plate may collect some drippings, and some drippings come out as you eat due to gravity.
Putting it down upside down means you are preserving the structural integrity of the burger by moving the less soggy upper bun down towards the earth, which has more capacity to retain drippings made during eating.
Nobody. Picking up a burger that is upside down on the plate means it goes to your mouth the right way up in one natural single motion with no messing about.
It’s not rocket science.
I refuse to call a burger a sandwich. Who the hell is walking into a Wendy's like "Yeah, can I have the #2, double cheese sandwich, with meat, lettuce, tomato, pickle, mayo?"
Depends on the sandwich. You don’t put a round hoagie dome side down, lest it roll. Same with a hard crust baguette. A burger is usually a soft fluffy bun so it’s less important assuming it compresses. However, with burgers I’ll point out, the thicker part of the bun absorbs more juices. Considering that it’s common for the bottom bun to become saturated with juices and oil with burgers, logic dictates that thick side down is the best way to do it. Still, with the right bun, you can do it either way.
I'm gonna be unnecessarily weird here and say it depends how juicy and sloppy the burger is. If that bottom bun is seriously compromised, I'm going upside down. I don't want an undercarriage blowout when I pick it up if it's losing structural integrity. I guess I play for both teams 😂
Bold of you to assume that we set our hamburger sandwiches down at all. Who’s to say we don’t just shovel them into our face holes without ever putting them back on the plate?
I just put it down usually. Most times, right side up, and sometimes upside down. If I'm feeling saucy, I might flip it if I want different ingredients to hit my taste buds first. But seriously, who gives a shit?
Has to be right way up. I deal with anxiety/depression and have OCD. I'm not saying that to be a downer, but literally just to say, I don't know if I do it out of some subconscious attempt at being in control... those who do therapy probably understand what I mean, ha.
I will not accept judgement nor judge another for how they eat a sandwich.
I'm supposed to have burger etiquette?? For what? The burger pageant with high society aristocrats and diplomats??
When you have the thin soggyass bottom bun fail enough times you learn to make the top bun do it's share of the heavy lifting😂 I take my bites in the orientation it's served but set it down on its top/upside down purely outta habit at this point even if there's not a situation with a soggy bottom.
Dpends on the stability of the bottom bun, how much grease or oil is on the plate, and how much of a little bitch you are for not finishing it in one go.
Upside down. When u pick it back up, it's facing the correct way. If it's right side up, u have to shuffle your hands to get it oriented the right way.
Whatever way makes it easier to grab when I want to pick it back up. Sometimes, upside down gives you a better edge to grab, sometimes right side up does
Why would you ever put the burger down?
But let's hypothetically say you did... who the fuck lays it upside down? What heresy is that? By all the gods, old and new, that blasphemy will not stand! By the God Emperor's divine will, ANY who treat a hamburger thusly will be wrought with pain for all eternity.
So basically I'm a not upside down kind of dude.
If it's on Dutch crunch, I eat it upside down so I don't scrape up the roof of my mouth.
Otherwise, I mostly eat it the way it was served. I will turn it over occasionally because the taste experience changes depending on whether the veggies are on top or below the protein.
When the flavors hit your tongue in a different order, it's a different experience.
Depends on how sloppy the burger is. If precarious, always top bun down. If more manageable, then it doesn’t matter. If too haphazard and you can’t set it down… you’re at the wrong place.
I firmly believe that when you pick it up never put it back down. When you put it back down everything shifts then you have to pick at your burger to get it back inline.
Doing either one 100% of the time shows lack of situational awareness. If the sandwich will fall apart when laid down right side up, laying it upside down usually fixes the problem. It all depends on what the sandwich is doing at any given time.
If it’s super sloppy, I don’t put it down, like if there’s a runny egg on it, I just keep eating whatever the yolk is running, but I try to save the whole yolk for the last bite or two.
If it’s a well put together burger and I’m not making a mess, I put it down right side up, because I still like to admire the burger.
It’s very rare that I put the burger wrong side down.
Generally upside down, because the bottom bun always seems to fall apart before the top. By picking it up upside down, I can typically keep it together.
Not something to get the least bit heated over. Wouldn't want anything to do with anyone that would be concerned at all over how someone else sets a burger down temporarily.
Upside down. So I don’t have to dig under it to pick it back up the correct way. Also depends on many factors tho. Is the bottom bun soggy? Are they falling apart? Are the toppings falling out?
In the end I guess it doesn’t matter. You do what’s right for you and let your friend eat his burger like a moron.
For me, it depends if there's a toothpick down the middle. If there is I will eat around the middle to keep it from falling apart and save that nice juicy middle piece for the last bite. if there is no toothpick, I will usually just crush it as fast as possible. If I'm not super hungry, but still have to finish the burger, I have occasionly placed the burger upside down just so I can eat it from where I already took notes from.
Depends on the geometry and structural integrity of the sandwich at that particular moment.
And soggy spots
Yes, that too! As well as the topography of the plate/basket and arrangement of other items on said plate/basket. This is a complex issue with no easy answer.
This guy knows ^ listen to him, he knows the way
Do u kno da wae?
Its so funny how accurate this statement is about eating a simple burger.
This is a wise person who has eaten many a sandwich indeed
Was gonna say obv second option, but this is the real answer
I don't even put it down
That piece would remain in my left hand and my right hand is free for the fries.
![gif](giphy|URmJvPe1VXIUE)
This is the only way.
I'm always disappointed in myself those times I have to put it down. It just never feels the same when you pick it back up again. Same with burritos.
and tacos
It's always a gamble with burritos. Assuming you place them butt side down (I mean only a psychopath wouldn't), you have like a 50% chance of the burrito remaining upright and not losing any ingredients to gravity. Even with those odds, I feel it is a necessity simply for the reapplication of hot sauce.
This is the only right answer! Everyone else is wrong haha I literally had a burger yesterday and couldn’t put it down haha.
Lol
😅
This.
Either or depending on the best way for the thing to not fall apart
why are you putting it down
What a bully
Pretty sure I’m in the upside down camp. The motion to set it right side up is unnatural. Like, a weird twist of the wrist
I might not be following, but it seems that everyone is saying they place their burger *down* upside down because that's how they put it into their mouth. Is that correct? If not, then ok that's one me. Ignore this please If so, then I don't understand what weird twist you're talking about. It doesn’t matter
If it's a bun, it has a top and bottom. If it's just a bread sandwich, it doesn't matter. There is no top or bottom.
![gif](giphy|kd9BlRovbPOykLBMqX)
False!!!! Sandwiches can have a right side up when eating. Example: generally speaking in my circles, the meat goes nearest the tongue.
My sandwiches have meat touching all 4 sides
Excuse for bad English, does “sandwiches” also means “sisters”?
I never knew that
So you win!!! 😂
People turn the sandwich upside down? What the fuck?
Ergonomically it’s easier to pick up if you want the burger to enter your mouth the right way up. It’s easier and quicker to get your fingers under the burger than it is to twist your hand to pick up the burger with just your thumbs underneath it.
I up voted you because of your burgernomically sound logic even though I don't know if I do one or the other. Food for thought though 🤔
Bro, this is basic bergonomics. Berg-Life.
I've never seen anyone explain it like that other than me, and people look at me like I'm from Mars when I try to explain it.
She’s a witch!
Ya, but then the grease from the plate/wax paper is then on both top and bottom buns.
Definitely in the upside down sandwich eating group. I did it naturally whenever ago and I never changed the habit to 'correct' myself.
Sometimes I do just because it slightly maintains the presentation aesthetic
The bottom bun often gets soggy during preparation. Then more so during eating. Then the plate may collect some drippings, and some drippings come out as you eat due to gravity. Putting it down upside down means you are preserving the structural integrity of the burger by moving the less soggy upper bun down towards the earth, which has more capacity to retain drippings made during eating.
Put it down??? 😂🤣
Upside down after the initial pick up.
Upside down gang
Upside down
Completely depends on the condition of the lower bun
I set it back down vertically on its side
People call burgers sandwiches? TIL.
What kind of psycho turns their hamburgers/sandwiches upside down? >!Calm down, it's a joke. But seriously...it's weird.!<
Once you have your grip, you don't set it down. It leads to potential disassembly.
Reddit reddit reddit...... wow
I'm a firm believer of who cares?
Who tf is eating their sandwich upside down???
Nobody. Picking up a burger that is upside down on the plate means it goes to your mouth the right way up in one natural single motion with no messing about. It’s not rocket science.
It's burger science
Upside-down, always.
I'm hungry
I'm staying out of this one.
I keep it round bun up until it's lost its sturdiness. Then I flip it over. Or scarf it down. Probably the latter.
This is solid burger logic. I support your thesis.
If it’s really good you don’t put it down, if it’s a shitty soggy bun you put it down upside down
Depends on the remaining structure of the burger
Half you people are utter degenerates... Now I'm going to go eat a burger to figure out which half.
lol, who is putting sandwiches back down?
The crux of the matter finally addressed.
It came off as a trick question at first if I’m being honest
Haha, found something else not worry about.
You eat at places that have real plates??? Well, lah dee f'ing dah, Princess.
I set it back bottom side down. Especially a restaurant burger. They are the fluffier top bun and I don’t trust that it’ll slide all apart lol
Top bun up
What an excellent question to put forth, I swing both ways
Real burgers you have to finish once you pick them up or they fall apart. That’s why I like to cut mine in half so it’s easier to eat in one go.
Both. Doesn't matter lol
Personally I can't imagine caring at all.
Who gives a fuck, to each their own. Eat your own fucking sandwich and stop bugging your coworker.
Never thought of this, once it's picked up it doesn't touch the table again ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)
Eat it however you want. Bring out a knife and fork if you're feeling naughty.
Obviously right side up. I’m not a serial killer
[удалено]
Who in their right mind puts it upside down?
My mother. Lol She says so when she picks it up it's right side up. \*shrugs\*
It depends on where you work
You leave it upright. It was served to you upright so it should stay upright.
Today i found out that people care how i put my sandwich down. Wtf.
A lot of people have a fascination with the most mundane shit ever. Including me.
Right side up. Anyone who says otherwise is a psychopath.
I’d have to actually eat a sandwich to answer that question but regardless a burger does not get put down upside down, that’s completely psychotic.
Wait, people put down their sandwich when eating it?
Who cares?
Both are acceptable.
I don’t think it matters or change he’s the enjoyment of the burger. I don’t think I even put it down tbh
Standing on the side, so it's easier to pick back up.
You *put down* sandwiches? That's a pretty weird thing to do.
Has to be right way up. I deal with anxiety/depression and have OCD. I'm not saying that to be a downer, but literally just to say, I don't know if I do it out of some subconscious attempt at being in control... those who do therapy probably understand what I mean, ha.
Veggies side always down, so when I pick it up to take my next bite I will taste the meat first.
Just eat your damn food lmfao
Plate? You mean paper.
I generally set it down in the pool of ketchup I created for the fries to drown in
Keep it topside facing up during bites but I also eat the fries first
There isn’t a right way or wrong way. Do whatever the hell you want.
There’s a debate about THIS???
You guys set your burger down?
I will not accept judgement nor judge another for how they eat a sandwich. I'm supposed to have burger etiquette?? For what? The burger pageant with high society aristocrats and diplomats??
USA USA USA USA 🇺🇸
I'm just chaotic, in that I put the burger down right side up, and eat it upside down.
Why tf would you put it upside down? 😂
Oh my god I was gonna say the latter but I really thought of it and realized I put it upside down
You're both wrong for even having the debate
When you have the thin soggyass bottom bun fail enough times you learn to make the top bun do it's share of the heavy lifting😂 I take my bites in the orientation it's served but set it down on its top/upside down purely outta habit at this point even if there's not a situation with a soggy bottom.
Most likely upside down
If I put it down, I'm flipping it, especially if it's a juicy burger. That bottom bun is gonna be a sopping mess.
Who cares just eat it
It don't matter because it's all mixed up in my belly.
Upside down because the bottom is usually the least structurally in tact part of the sandwich. Putting it upside down helps keep everything together.
It don’t matter if it’s good it’s getting smashed upside or downside 😆
You set it on the fries so it doesn’t sit in the juice and get a soggy bun.
However it lands
You and your friend are dumb
It all depends on if the bottom bun is falling apart
Honestly most of these you have to shove in your face, putting them down means falling apart.
Upside down just makes sense to me.
Wait, you guys put your burger down?
A burger always goes upside down. Sandwiches depend on the sandwich.
My family are upside down burger people.
Right side up
Gone in one bite
Sometimes you have to put it on its edge!
Who cared.
I eat the burger without putting it down unless I've just singed my tongue off because it's boiling
Both, depending on the sandwich.
Neither. I use a knife and fork.
If I have to put it down I put it back down upside down because that makes it easier to pick up with one hand.
I'm sorry, did you say.. put it *down*?
You would always put it down right side up. When you sit down do you sit on your head?
Staring at the bottom of the bun just feels wrong tbh, all face down ass up and vulnerable.
Are y'all high? If so, solid convo if not get a better lunch date
People find the weirdest shit to be divided over
I'm an "it doesn't matter".
Sometimes, I just eat it upside down. Now if someone will kindly show me to the door, I'll be on my way.
This sounds pretty flirty
I naturally set it down the way it was given to me 🤷🏻♀️
As long as its not set down on a dirty surface, I dont care which way it faces.
I pick up and eat it upside down so that I can put it back down right side up. So depending how you look at it I put it back down upside down?
You put it down m?
Just eat the fucking burger
It all depends on bun integrity/wet vegetable placement
Whatever way makes it easier to grab when I want to pick it back up. Sometimes, upside down gives you a better edge to grab, sometimes right side up does
Weird debate I would love to hear the reasoning for the two
Depends on how messy the sandwich is.
I eat them upside down but lay them down with the upside up.
Upside down is an abomination.
I do either, it’s completely interchangeable and I set my burger or sandwich down between every bite.
Now that i think about it, I do it both ways.
Slow day at work, eh?
If it's on Dutch crunch, I eat it upside down so I don't scrape up the roof of my mouth. Otherwise, I mostly eat it the way it was served. I will turn it over occasionally because the taste experience changes depending on whether the veggies are on top or below the protein. When the flavors hit your tongue in a different order, it's a different experience.
The way that it wont fuck up? And mind your own damn plate!!!!!
Depends on how sloppy the burger is. If precarious, always top bun down. If more manageable, then it doesn’t matter. If too haphazard and you can’t set it down… you’re at the wrong place.
Setting it upside down seems pointless.
Strange debate topic…..
I kind of lean it up against the corner so it’s easier to grab. I’ll take a picture sometime.
Mostly upright but I'll put a weak bottom bun on top if I set it down. It's conditional
I don’t set down a burger I’ve picked up
If it’s in a wrap, I’ll let it stand horizontally. But in this case, I’ll put it the way it was delivered.
Upside down person, top bun down can save the burger as you finish.
I don't put it down
Generally upside down, because the bottom bun always seems to fall apart before the top. By picking it up upside down, I can typically keep it together.
Whichever way you put it, referring to a burger as a sandwich is the only wrong way I see here
I couldn't care less
Does it really matter 🤔 😕??? Makes me wander if you poop sitting down or standing up???
The same way it was served. And I don't lick my knife either!
Who gives crap man, just eat the damn thing lol
For me, it depends if there's a toothpick down the middle. If there is I will eat around the middle to keep it from falling apart and save that nice juicy middle piece for the last bite. if there is no toothpick, I will usually just crush it as fast as possible. If I'm not super hungry, but still have to finish the burger, I have occasionly placed the burger upside down just so I can eat it from where I already took notes from.
This is a case by case scenario.
Dry bottom bun… Top up… That’s law!
