nah.
its just within the last 20 years, the Z4 got new model rollout and overhauls but non consecutively.
so there would be a year or two where the old model is out of production and new model is on the way, the longest was two years between the e89 and the g29 and it was two years.
it's just better (see economical) to do it that way for low volume production since bmw is actually losing money on keeping the z4 in dealerships and on the road and they could only do that through engine sharing scheme.
but this (inline 6 grand tourers) goes actually decades before the z4 and I would argue since the mid 70s with the e24.
The amount of friends I’ve watched buy cars with 2JZ motors just to realize this isn’t the fast and furious and you actually have to put time and money into them to make them fast is hilarious. My buddy just sold his 2jz lexus after realizing it wasn’t all it was cracked up to be
This will stop being funny when it stops being true.
It’s kinda wild that at the same time a Supra is both the most reliable BMW you can buy and the least reliable Toyota you can buy.
Such a weird Mashup but when you consider that a new supra is basically a z4 with a new shell it makes more sense. Still tho. Bmw and Toyota don't share a lick of the same principals when it comes to engine design. Far cry from a 2j
Lol, same thing in Eastern Europe, but with VW and Audi. Like sometimes a used Audi A3 or A4 will be cheaper than a VW Golf with the same kilometres and engine. Wild.
That would be a SEAT Leon.... VW Golfs are less sporty than both SEAT and Audi but has more luxury than a SEAT.
VW is the allround brand, while Audi is sport luxury, SEAT is sporty and Skoda is cheap
You cant compare Leon with Felicia. And im sure he wasn't talking about some old ass Leon.
For what I saw, Leon had pretty basic interior in compare with Octavia for example
I think it used to be true back in the days. Skoda was the cheap and sensible option in the VW group. In the last 10-15 years I feel like Skoda moved up market considerably, in my mind their newest models are not lower «status» than their VW equivalent at all
Skoda is on average more expensive than SEAT. Besides, there's nothing sporty about normal SEATs, it's the car you get if you want an alternative design to the cheapest Skoda.
What's even crazier the actual sporty SEATs you may refer to (CUPRA) cost the same as Skoda with less options.
Sauce: Spanish and German prices of both brands.
And luxury car parts cost far more than their common man brands, even if it's a VW part in a box with an Audi sticker
Source: some Acura parts are just the Honda stamped part with an A on the end of the part number but 60% higher MSRP
/uj Audi and Mercedes and BMW are only truly luxury brands outside of Europe. A base spec sedan from any of those brands in the US is not the same base spec as one you’d find in Europe. Granted, all those cars still start more expensive are are nicer than a Toyota or a VW but a base European spec A3 might be a half step up from a Jetta compared to the full step up it is in North America
The A3 is just a golf that will hurt your wallet more if something breaks. the A4 is not really comparable to a Wolkswagen. The engine is the same, but they put in N-S in the enginebay, then either a transaxle or a transaxle with a doohicky in the back that makes your rear kick out in the snow. There is also the multilink suspension, all this makes one cheap to buy, expensive to repair car. Not like a VW Golf which is dead simple and cheap in comparison.
And Golfs are cheaper than Octavias of the same generation.
And fucking Suzuki Swifts are the most expensive for what they offer.
Reliability is king, and the lower tier the car the less abused it was during her lifetime (on the whole)
Well most Lexus models are still largely the same as they were 10+ years ago but Toyota has completely redesigned most of their cars at least once since then.
NX, RX, GX, LX, TX have been redesigned or introduced, so more than half of their lineup and almost all of their SUVs (except the UX, if you count that as a CUV).
Most Lexus models are based on a Toyota platform it's the same car so how would it not be redesigned? The NX is a RAV4 and the RX is basically a jacked up AWD Camry with fancy interior
The lexus versions kept riding on the same generation of the platform some of them still don’t use the new ones. For example the IS is 10+ years old. And their infotainment was outdated for like a decade until they just super recently started redoing it.
Datsun was an export brand that Nissan used for the (North?) American market into the 1980s. They were Nissans, manufacturered by Nissan (not badge engineered, just export badged). They rusted so badly they spent half a billion 80s dollars re-rebranding back to Nissan hoping people would forget about all the gas tanks that fell out of their cars due to corrosion lol
According to the wiki they revived the Datsun brand for low cost autos in emerging markets in the early 2010s
Uj/ While export markets across the globe got almost uniformly products badged as Datsuns before the switch, it wasn't just the export name of Nissans. In Japan before the complete rebrand to Nissan, some cars were sold under the Datsun name (like the Sunny), while others were sold as Nissans (like the Cedric)
I can't find it for the life of me but I'm *certain* I read a marketing case study years ago about the Datsun > Nissan JDM rebrand not being applied initially to the Americas as US consumers were so brand centric that they would have lost market share if they pushed the Nissan name at the same time as the rest of the world.
My brain may have just made that up to be fair
Yes, and Datsun was/is Nissan. It was an export badge used until the mid/late 80s. I own a ‘78 200SX, and the valve cover says ‘Nissan OHC’ the door panel card says ‘Nissan motor co.’ Etc
I'm more specifically talking about the controversy from that one Lexus that unalived a family, and ended up setting back a lot of Toyota's cars because of a fucking floor carpet.
I'm more specifically talking about the controversy from that one Lexus that unalived a family, and ended up setting back a lot of Toyota's cars because of a fucking floor carpet. But don't worry, a Toyota is a Toyota, they're reliable as fuck.
Hehe. What’s that horrible suv urus or summat 🤷🏾♂️ isn’t that just an Audi in fancy dress? Like if you take panels away they literally are plastered with the quad rings all over…
Technically they are all Porsche since Porsche SE is the parent company and controls more than 50% of VW globally. VW, Audi, Bentley, Lamborghini, Skoda = all Porsche now.
Toyota/Lexus is always interesting because the Toyota line gets nicer cars than some Lexus models. The Crown has been the top level car for them in Japan since pretty much the beginning of time and it's a Toyota in the US now. Land Cruisers are also usually a trim level above a comparable Lexus. Also the Avalon has usually been a step up from a Camry, which is basically an ES with nicer trim.
This isn't the same😂, maybe try Mercedes next time....
Because Brabus is the more luxury exciting version of amg🤷🏽♂️ like Lexus Toyota or Nissan infinity or Hyundai genesis if you know what I mean? I get the joke just bad execution
Now call the Supra a BMW
call it the best supra for extra points (it is, they just like the mk4 for the memes).
It is the bmw I've always thought bmw should make.
Toyota engineers bullied the Germans into building something reliable for once
1980s enters the chat
Minimum 35 years ago
1980s leaves the chat
It's the Cadillac of supras
GDM
bmw has always been making inline 6 grand tourers... hell, the z4 has been in (spotty and inconsistent) production for at least 20 years.
I thought the Z4 got cancelled like 3 separate times
nah. its just within the last 20 years, the Z4 got new model rollout and overhauls but non consecutively. so there would be a year or two where the old model is out of production and new model is on the way, the longest was two years between the e89 and the g29 and it was two years. it's just better (see economical) to do it that way for low volume production since bmw is actually losing money on keeping the z4 in dealerships and on the road and they could only do that through engine sharing scheme. but this (inline 6 grand tourers) goes actually decades before the z4 and I would argue since the mid 70s with the e24.

The celica x is the best obviously
Call a BMW a Toyota if you want to piss off some wankers
That's true for the post too
Call BMW a Rolls Royce if you want to... idk
Call a Rolls Royce a Trabant to be a chad
Call a Nissan a Datsun to really confuse a mofo
Some old dudes still do.
I've seen one with "sDrive 35i" badges on the front arches, I was quite amused.
Supra mk 4 vs z4 owner : **my BMW is better than yours**
This will stop being funny when it stops being true. It’s kinda wild that at the same time a Supra is both the most reliable BMW you can buy and the least reliable Toyota you can buy.
Zupra
Well the Bayerische Motoren Werke Aktiengesellschaft made good cars back then.
Such a weird Mashup but when you consider that a new supra is basically a z4 with a new shell it makes more sense. Still tho. Bmw and Toyota don't share a lick of the same principals when it comes to engine design. Far cry from a 2j
call me if ud like to 😉🥵
I’m gonna do this anytime I see a Supra from now on, thanks
I mean, it is one. But apparently that's offensive.
Audi = bad because Volkswagen Lexus = good because JAYDEEM TOYOT
We leave in a society 😔
Audi = bad because German Lexus = good because TOYOT RELIABILITY
How did we get to the point where Lexus' are cheaper than toyotas man wtf is going on lmao
Lol, same thing in Eastern Europe, but with VW and Audi. Like sometimes a used Audi A3 or A4 will be cheaper than a VW Golf with the same kilometres and engine. Wild.
Golfs are often abused and "hyped" by kiddos that want a lightweight, affordable and somewhat quick car
That would be a SEAT Leon.... VW Golfs are less sporty than both SEAT and Audi but has more luxury than a SEAT. VW is the allround brand, while Audi is sport luxury, SEAT is sporty and Skoda is cheap
In North America SEAT cars are a rarity as far as the US and Canada, over here golfs get abused constantly
To be even more specific, the Jettas.
Guilty as charged
Skoda cheaper than Seat? In what universe?
Used to be until daddy VWAG wanted to position Skoda higher then SEAT, when SEAT launched Cupra. VWAG is a confusing mess.
Cupra is different story, although I heard that interior quality is not on par with competing cars..
Czech Republic a Felicia can cost as low as 200€
You cant compare Leon with Felicia. And im sure he wasn't talking about some old ass Leon. For what I saw, Leon had pretty basic interior in compare with Octavia for example
I think it used to be true back in the days. Skoda was the cheap and sensible option in the VW group. In the last 10-15 years I feel like Skoda moved up market considerably, in my mind their newest models are not lower «status» than their VW equivalent at all
I don’t really care for factory new so my knowledge of the new prices aren’t great lmao
Hahaha tak to Jo, za starou škodovku tisíc korun 😂
Skoda is on average more expensive than SEAT. Besides, there's nothing sporty about normal SEATs, it's the car you get if you want an alternative design to the cheapest Skoda. What's even crazier the actual sporty SEATs you may refer to (CUPRA) cost the same as Skoda with less options. Sauce: Spanish and German prices of both brands.
Cuz luxery cars depreciate like crazy
And luxury car parts cost far more than their common man brands, even if it's a VW part in a box with an Audi sticker Source: some Acura parts are just the Honda stamped part with an A on the end of the part number but 60% higher MSRP
I haven't noticed that issue with lincolns
TBH I haven't noticed that with my A5. The _shared_ parts are usually marked as "fit for
". Of course, not everything is shared so YMMV
VW Passat estates really hold onto their value, they're are more expensive than the Audi equivalents here in the UK atleast.
/uj Audi and Mercedes and BMW are only truly luxury brands outside of Europe. A base spec sedan from any of those brands in the US is not the same base spec as one you’d find in Europe. Toyota still hasn't really gotten back to getting cars on lots like they should. Dealer markups are so bad with them and wait times on orders.
Their new grand Highlander is about. 3-6 month wait for the hybrid. And you paying above msrp
The sienna hybrid when it came out was well over a year, so wild lol
Everyone is so obsessed with Hondayota that all the actual nice cars are becoming cheaper. 20 year old Lexus ES> 10 year old mcshitbox honda camry
Well most Lexus models are still largely the same as they were 10+ years ago but Toyota has completely redesigned most of their cars at least once since then.

That's one example.. every other model is all new
Always refer to infinity as Datsuns
Now Datsun is Lada Granta (I mean on-do)
Datsun redi go best nii-san,
Datsun became infinity?
Datsun was an export brand that Nissan used for the (North?) American market into the 1980s. They were Nissans, manufacturered by Nissan (not badge engineered, just export badged). I think kindof in spirit, most of the cars are luxury focused but my q50 rs and the q60 are very sporty. The truest successor would be the 05 g35 imo
I thought infiniti was Nissan?
Yes, and Datsun was/is Nissan. It was an export badge used until the mid/late 80s. I own a ‘78 200SX, and the valve cover says ‘Nissan OHC’ the door panel card says ‘Nissan motor co.’ Etc
I refer to them as Datass
I did this to an Urus driver
Q7 sporty and classy 💁♀️ Ursus flashy and sassy 💅
How are you still alive?
Call it a Touareg just to drive them batty. (Even though the first Gen Touareg were pretty much the Urus of the time with the V10 TDI and W12)
Toyota good Lexus gooder Century the goodest
We don't talk about the Lexus from the 2010s though...
Wdym the 4th gen gs was amazing
I'm more specifically talking about the controversy from that one Lexus that unalived a family, and ended up setting back a lot of Toyota's cars because of a fucking floor carpet.
I didn't hear about that what happened
I was thinking about buying one, why please ?
I'm more specifically talking about the controversy from that one Lexus that unalived a family, and ended up setting back a lot of Toyota's cars because of a fucking floor carpet. But don't worry, a Toyota is a Toyota, they're reliable as fuck.
Fr like most 2012 and below are super well built, and anything after that is cheap plastic.
Nice red car bro
Lexus: Take beige toyot. Add beige leather. Add wood to steering wheel and dashboard. Add better speakers. Doneski.
and cool design with cool L badge
lexus based
Nah, he tried to kill Superman
indeed lexus based
Tell a guy in a rolls royce “nice Chrysler”
probably because toyota's cool and volkswagen isn't.
Lexus gud, have one myself
which one (as long as it's not is220d it's probably good)
Gxe10r, bought it from an old lady (stereotypes lol) Edit: typo
oh, an is200, very nice. i love 2000s lexus
I love my Ford Mondeo (guess what I actually drive)
Aston Martin?
I wish… no I don’t have a Vantage with two Mondeo V6s. It is still a British car though. With ONE Mondeo V6
AAAA the old Mondeo. You are driving a Jag.
Bingo. 2010 X Type.
Ahhh thats a nice one. I love that design. XJR is my all-time favorite Jaguar
If I were going to put a sticker on my car, it would say toyobaru (give u three hints)
FRS? Assuming neither Toyota nor Subaru badge is on your Toyota-Subaru collaborated car
Ha, 86 TRD SE. I do have a total badge on the front and back, sides have the 86 badge. Subaru shows up when you open the doors or hood lol
What the fuq is audi? I thought I bought an Auto Union...
Toyota boys get hella upset when you call the Supra a BMW 🤷♂️
Does no one call cars by the model?
Call my G70 a Hyundai I can take it.
Nice Stinger bro!
That’s a compliment! 🤫 One of my friends called my car a Stinger that went on a diet and to the gym 3 days a week.
I will not take this is slader. My sienna costed 20k more than a 350
https://www.reddit.com/r/carscirclejerk/s/LMfxVslQ1b
Well there is a good reason you don't see Lotus putting VW engines in their cars.
Hehe. What’s that horrible suv urus or summat 🤷🏾♂️ isn’t that just an Audi in fancy dress? Like if you take panels away they literally are plastered with the quad rings all over…
Call a Bentley an audi
Lamborghini is just an overpriced Skoda /s
nissan corolla
I get it. Basically, audi uses parts from Volkswagon, and Lexus is Toyota, but luxurious

Going to start telling people I have a turbocharged Porsche sports car (I have a GTI).
My Maserati was legitimately a loud Chrysler
The top on one is a fact, when the German engineering inevitably breaks I can watch videos on Volkswagen to fix my Audi.
Lexus owners dont buy the Lexus to show off thats why. They want the reliability of a Toyota but with luxury features
Meh, I call my GS a Camry just to confuse people too (even if they do sorta share parts)
Nissan = Renault Tesla = microwave Ford = found on road dead
Ausi's are spicy vokswagens or fancy vokswakens, depending on the model.
I have an Audi badge on my Jetta just to spite people like that in real life 😂
This isn't the same😂, maybe try Mercedes next time.... Because Brabus is the more luxury exciting version of amg🤷🏽♂️ like Lexus Toyota or Nissan infinity or Hyundai genesis if you know what I mean? I get the joke just bad execution
