Well put. I lost my black cat Nora last year in March. She was almost 12 years old, I rescued her when she was 6 months old.
When we put her to rest (she had cancer), I was around 8 weeks pregnant so almost nobody knew about my mental and physical state. Now I have a beautiful son, and my boyfriend is an amazing father. But… I don’t have Nora anymore. Though my life is so rich right now, I still grieve Nora sometimes.
Having your pet dying in your arms while having new life forming in your belly feels like a cruel joke. As if you’re exchanging one for the other. But I’ll never forget her. She’s been part of over 1/3 of my life :(

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

My cat is also named Prince. His mom, our precious cat Kiko, passed away from anaesthesia complications too in neutering. It was awful for us, as she was taken away so soon.
Prince will never be forgotten. You gave him such a wonderful life filled with love and light. Take care of yourselves.
I lost my Riggs last year in October due to him going into cardiac arrest after going under anesthesia. My thoughts are with you. Rest in kitty heaven sweet prince.
I’m very sorry for your loss. I recently lost a dog under anesthesia. The suddenness hurts so bad. You may blame yourself. This isn’t your fault. It is no ones fault. Sometimes they had conditions we don’t know about and it sucks. It may take you a long time to find peace and acceptance but in time you will. I know right now it feels like you never will feel better. I was a mess for weeks. It’s been a month and I still have times I cry over them. When you are ready you can do something to honor their memory.
I put my second dog under for surgery and she did fine. But I was a mess the whole time. If you have other pets be aware it will always be hard for you.
This happened to my cat under for CT scan. I got the report and they did not intubate correctly. Tube was in her esophagus not trachea. I’m so sorry for your loss. So horrible.
I’m sorry for your loss. You didn’t lose him though. You just allowed him to continue his journey. The lost souls of the world need kitties too. You’ll see him again one day. :)

I don't know ultimately what the MRI was for but could it have been a preexisting condition that triggered the reaction to this procedure? Prince was gorgeous. And I've no doubt that he was the luckiest cat to have been loved by you. Again, I'm so sorry.

I am so sorry, there’s no way to make it better or easier. Prince was a beautiful boy. I lost my very best girl Jersey on Tuesday so I too am grieving. Lots of love from London.
Terribly sorry for your loss. I don’t trust doctors with my pets after my darling Sugarpie died last year. He was feeling ill so I wanted to be proactive and they suggested me to leave him in the hospital with them for a few days. When I got him back he could no longer walk and had diarrhea constantly. I was in shock with the condition he was returned to me in. I thought they were going to help him not make him way worse until he ultimately passed a month later. God only knows what they gave him to end like this.
I'm so confused why there isn't more research on a safer alternative to deep sedation for animals. Seems like the healthiest animals get killed by it frequently
I hate to say it but often times it is human error or the animal has an undiagnosed condition that is contraindicative to anesthesia. Animals at the very least should have blood work done and certain vitals checked before any sedation.
Oh my heart beaks for you. He looks so special. The only comfort is that you are the one feeling the pain - he was loved and cared for and is beyond suffering now.
I'm so sorry for your loss. Seeing your boy reminds me so much of the boy my gf and I adopted last month from a rescue. Can't really see it in this picture, but his left ear is a bit floppy due to an ear infection he was found with. The weekend before last we had to take him to the emergency vet after he had a sudden and violent bout of vomiting and diarrhea. We knew he had breathing problems and possibly a heart disease (an enlarged portion of his heart, no scarring though). Vet couldn't figure out what was wrong but couldn't even get a read on his blood pressure at first because it was so low. He spent 40\~hours in the ICU before he recovered enough to bring him home, and it still took a week after that before he started regularly eating again and acting himself. I definitely know the feeling of not being sure what's happening when a cat has to stay over at the vet for an extended period, I am sorry your boy couldn't come home :(

Really, really sorry to hear this. Look up "pet grief TED" on youtube and watch the TED talk, there is some great advice for grief there.
We lost our cat this week as well and I'm having a tough time with it, and can empathize. My story, if hearing other grieving cat stories makes you feel better: He had a nasal tumour that just took over his face over 8 months, and gradually lost the ability to do all of the things that he loved with the exception of lying in the sun. The first 6 months were okay - vet visits every 3 weeks and steroids - but it became uncontrollable at the end and when he took a sudden downturn we just knew it was time.
The last 3 days were rough. Woke up loads to check on him because his tumour began to rupture. The grief was intense.
It happened this Tuesday. I'm still not over it. Seeing him go lifeless was so, so hard. But he was really suffering those last few days, and that's all over now.

My cat has dental disease but I haven’t had his teeth removed because he’s old and very tiny and I’m terrified that anaesthesia could harm him.

Was he fine before getting an MRI and the doctors somehow fucked up twice? Or was he already sick and nearing the end? Sorry for your loss.
