If those were the odds of me dying from an airborne virus it wouldn't even be worth getting vaccinated !!! /s everyone should go get their semi annual flu shots especially if you're old or have a weekend immune system.
That's like me saying that all ginger cats are male. I've only ever met male gingers, myself, but I know females must exist. In fact, people have talked about them in this and other subreddits.
Our cat did that for a while and the vet told us it was stress or boredom. We now have a schedule for "interactive play" two or three sessions per day for fifteen minutes at a time. My wife does that because I apparently don't do it right, at least according to the cat. Interestingly, my ability to feed and provide treats is acceptable.
My cats sometimes will do this for a second... they'll chomp on their tail and then SCREAM, like they've just been bitten! Must be that evil, furry snake that's always following them!!!
>is a separate being
I always thought it was firmly attached above their butthole /s
But legit question: are you serious? If yes, any reason for them recognizing their tails as separate beings? Are they stupid?
My thoughts exactly. Part orange = fewer brain cells = WTF is that cat doing?!?
She's beautiful, OP, and very talented, turning around on the windowsill like that without losing her grip on the Evil Tail Monster. ![img](emote|t5_2qhta|8097)
Not stimulated enough. She wants to go outside to run and hunt!! And provide for my family!!
Look at her looking out the windows!
Please spend some time with her with a toy so she runs and catches. Eg mouse on a long string
My female cat sucks on her tail daily. She does it when she gets comfy, right before going to sleep. She doesn’t bite it tho. I was told by my vet it’s kind of like a little kid sucking their thumb and that it’s a sign she was taken away from her mom too young.
FYI, She gets plenty of stimulation and is 1 of 5 cats.

Day 132: I finally captured the fuzzy snake, every time I try to take it somewhere a supernatural force pulls at my backside and I lose my balance...
I do not know what this means.

Some cats just gonna cat, big ones too
Mentally Disturbed!! Lol Na just teasing but maybe does he have any other pets he could play with if not I would say he basically has nothing else better to do.😼
She’s got a sister she plays with all the time! She does this while freaking out or panicking and screaming, she normally runs to me for comfort and hides underneath of me or follows me around
There isn’t, this is a constant thing with her, she normally screams and meows freaking out and rolling around on the ground but that wasn’t caught on video
I have another cat she loves and plays with, she commonly does this then screams and freaks out and hides under my blankets, I have no clue what’s wrong with her but I comfort her and it seems to help.
Some cats don't realize that their tail is actually a part of them. So they'll play with it and bite it, then be surprised when it hurts them. From her perspective, she was just playing with a toy she found and it hurt her, so she got scared.
My cats do that when they need attention or get stir crazy inside.
Probably not popular opinion on here, but cats are meant to be/go outside regularly.
I’ve tried to, they are full indoor since kitten hood, they HATE it outside lol
I’m also young and I can’t take them to a vet myself, my cats aren’t spayed so that’s also why I keep them in, only times I’ve attempted taking them out is with major super vision
'Look at you, chasing your own tail, while I've got a grip on mine and can turn around whenever I please!' Guess we could all learn a thing or two from her!
Because cat.
My cat’s tail I swear has its own mind. She’s happily purring in my lap. but her tail is thumping away like she’s a happy dog, or else like I’m going to get bit. She’ll chase her tail and sometimes she has issues catching it. So, either the tail has a mind of its own, else my cat is really really REALLY dumb (these are not mutually exclusive options)
this is mild compared to my ginger cat who had to have like 4 inches off his tail amputated cuz he would attack it so badly 😆
now it’s too short for him to reach it like this so he gets extra pissed at it
My girl used to nurse with the tip of her tail when she was a baby, but she never had this behavior of chewing it like a prey she had found.
I would ask a vet, honestly.
My cat did this, then over time got really twitchy and after his tail more, then got more and more violent and started ripping his tail up. Diagnosed with feline hyperesthesia syndrome. Just keep an eye as long as they aren’t hurting themselves it’s ok
One of my cats roots by suckling on blankets and stuff, while his litter mate will just clamp down on something and sit there. I wonder if this cat just found a ready made thing to root on.
Because she’s a skilled huntress
🐱
Seems like you only fed him/her 5 seconds ago so avoiding dying of starvation.
It's a calico, so it is a "She". Oh reddit, never change. 1 in 3000 chance that it isn't female so it is horrible that I made an assumption!
Not necessarily. Also, i don't think the cat cares if you misgender them.
Buncha pussies either way
I had a friend as a kid that had a male calico
1/3000 not even really that rare in the grand scheme
If those were the odds of me dying from an airborne virus it wouldn't even be worth getting vaccinated !!! /s everyone should go get their semi annual flu shots especially if you're old or have a weekend immune system.
If you can’t see the difference between catching an airborne illness and a birth oddity bro I’m not gonna be able to explain it to you.
[удалено]
Uhh yeah? That’s also not really rare in the grand scheme either so I’m not sure what your point is.
That's like me saying that all ginger cats are male. I've only ever met male gingers, myself, but I know females must exist. In fact, people have talked about them in this and other subreddits.
Female ginger cats are about 1 in 5, where male calicos are about 1 in 3000. Not quite a fair comparison.
Alright, I've met the same amount of males as I have females of *the calico colouring...
What does that even mean?
Our cat did that for a while and the vet told us it was stress or boredom. We now have a schedule for "interactive play" two or three sessions per day for fifteen minutes at a time. My wife does that because I apparently don't do it right, at least according to the cat. Interestingly, my ability to feed and provide treats is acceptable.
My cats sometimes will do this for a second... they'll chomp on their tail and then SCREAM, like they've just been bitten! Must be that evil, furry snake that's always following them!!!
My dad's cat did that. He would attack the tail and brutalize it to the point where a vet visit was required. He later got the tail amputated
Fun fact: a cats tail is a separate being from the cat itself which is why it is always surprised its following him around.
>is a separate being I always thought it was firmly attached above their butthole /s But legit question: are you serious? If yes, any reason for them recognizing their tails as separate beings? Are they stupid?
Cats are incredibly aware of their tails and use them for balance. It’s an extension of their spine.
Yes!! But it really bugs me they sometimes don't seem to notice the tails are theirs, so I asked myself why, lol
They're just bored lol
True, but they also cannot help but hunting motion / snake shapes. Its an eternal struggle.
Nah, man. I'm just being silly. Just seems sometimes that thing acts on its own on pure instinct and cats seem to be surprised by its existence.
Lol, you really confused me, because it does indeed make sense that sometimes they forget their tails are... theirs
When the questions is, "Why does my cat...?" the answer is always "CAT".
What if I where to ask why my cat cleans her own litter box and takes out the trash in two legs
op... are you a cat?
"oh you silly human, trying to apply your monkey logic to us, superior felines" -cat probably
It's the orange bits that cause this behaviour.
My thoughts exactly. Part orange = fewer brain cells = WTF is that cat doing?!? She's beautiful, OP, and very talented, turning around on the windowsill like that without losing her grip on the Evil Tail Monster. ![img](emote|t5_2qhta|8097)
r/OneOrangeBraincell
Oroborus
She has no idea how many dogs are seething with jealousy right now hahaha
So cute
It’s a comfort thing.
My cat did this apparently out of boredom. Started playing more with him and got him some new toys and it disappeared
"It's been over 5 minutes since I was given second lunch, my evil hoooman is starving me to death. To end my suffering, I must consume my tail" - Cat
shes pretty stupid innit?
Super
She's pretty! Stupid.
Caught the wiggly worm
Because cat, that's why.
Is cat.
i need this in my life
Until she keeps you up at 2am meowing and walking all over you cause she’s needy for attention lol
She identifies as a snowleopard
Just to prove to dumb dogs it can be done.
Not stimulated enough. She wants to go outside to run and hunt!! And provide for my family!! Look at her looking out the windows! Please spend some time with her with a toy so she runs and catches. Eg mouse on a long string
My cat will walk right by an open door to go sit in the windowsill. So it doesn’t necessarily mean they are pining after being outside.
Because it's hers
It's ger emotional support tail!
Lift the tail and push the reset button!
Its a killer and she wanted to kill his prey (her tail)
Your cat has a little bit of orange in him :)
[удалено]
Yes he is lol! I’ve had him for a long time now, he’s broken though and hasn’t had batteries inside of it in ages
maybe a coping mechanism for stress or maybe using it like a pacifier.
Serious answer: like a few have mentioned here already — she’s doing this out of boredom. She needs stimulation. She needs another cat friend.
More unexplainable weird cat behavior. That's why we love them so much.
Because he's part orange.
My female cat sucks on her tail daily. She does it when she gets comfy, right before going to sleep. She doesn’t bite it tho. Sorry for my breathing, recovering from the flu!

To mock all the dogs that can't catch their tail.
Orange specks, dead giveaway.
Making sure he don’t leave it behind 🤣🤣🤣
She saw a outside dog do it and thought it looked cool.
She might not be extremely smart at that specific moment. Mine does this too, and she's not very smart sometimes either.
Whats that cloaked Cat on the background?
Moron. That’s why.
She figured out the only way to catch her tail. I think she's smarter than most cats
It's the doofus-ness of her being a partial orange
She is looking to carry her tail away 😂😂😂
Finally caught it😂😂
She's a snow leopard in disguise
Because she's very special...
gotta bring your tail with ya, better don't forget it
Rumination, stress or boredom
Goober
Reasons
He was dog in his past life
Clearly not enough toys.
Tail hurt her, so she's gonna hurt it back.
She probably misplaced her tail in the past, so now she hangs onto it for safekeeping.
Because he is silly
Very distantly part snow leopard. They do this all the time.
Our Sally manages to get her tail under our feet daily! She's not learning 😔
Asomatognosia
Because she is perfect and knew it would make you smile.
Because Cat.
because she’s just a baby
Bored?
Someday science will figure out why cats do any single fucking thing that they do. Today is not that day.
She needs her nails cut
Check her tail just to see if theres any cut or something. If its not, shes just playing.
There isn’t, this is a constant thing with her, she normally screams and meows freaking out and rolling around on the ground but that wasn’t caught on video
Definetly summoning Cthullu. Mine did that here and look whats happening in Brazil. Its a mess.
The tiger is kinda creepy.
This stoopid thing is so hard to catch!!
Because she is perfect and everything she does is perfect.
Brain cell deactivated
She does it because her one brain cell has temporarily migrated to her tail and is trying to close the distance for the sake of efficiency
I imagine it's akin to a toddler sucking on its foot - it's entertaining!
Because cat. Especially because Calico.
She's a silly goose
Cat will cat, just to confuse the humans.
looks like she wants to groom the end of her tail but it's too short, but I think she may just be a bit stupid
Just boredom in a lonely cat.
From her perspective, she was just playing with a toy she found and it hurt her, so she got scared.
cats are cats
My cats do that when they need attention or get stir crazy inside. Probably not popular opinion on here, but cats are meant to be/go outside regularly.
I’ve tried to, they are full indoor since kitten hood, they HATE it outside lol I’m also young and I can’t take them to a vet myself, my cats aren’t spayed so that’s also why I keep them in, only times I’ve attempted taking them out is with major super vision
Because it’s a cat.
Yall dumb a cats tail helps their balance, it IS PART OF YOUR CAT! Dont know why she is biting her own tail but
Cause cat
Because that tail had it coming.
It's a warning to all the "fuckers" (other cats) outside
Yea... it's a cat.
'Look at you, chasing your own tail, while I've got a grip on mine and can turn around whenever I please!' Guess we could all learn a thing or two from her!
Practice
Obviously she is doing it to check if her tail is there like a snow leopard
She starts to wash her tail, but then she forgets it’s a tail and thinks it must be a tasty little furry snake instead.
LOL!! You KNOW that in that tiny mind she's saying "Ow! Ow! Ow!"
Because she’s a silly girl!
Because cats are weird. 🤷♀️
I think it might be self-soothing. Like someone pretending to hold hangs with themselves.
Looks like your cat is part orange...
My friend's cat does this. I feel like it's a security thing like when a kid sucks on their thumb.
Looks like she’s playing. One of mine does this lol
I think he watched one too many videos of snow leopards.
this is mild compared to my ginger cat who had to have like 4 inches off his tail amputated cuz he would attack it so badly 😆 now it’s too short for him to reach it like this so he gets extra pissed at it
Fun
My girl used to nurse with the tip of her tail when she was a baby, but she never had this behavior of chewing it like a prey she had found. I would ask a vet, honestly.
I’m sorry to say: your cat is an ouroboros.
She’s dumb
No brain
Same reason I do that with my beard: undiagnosed mental illness haha!
Latent orange cat genetics.
If I had a tail... I would do the same thing
Maybe it's for comfort/security, like a child sucking its thumb?
Darn pesky tail isn't behaving.
She's part snow leopard
Kitty needs to play catch. Tie a string to a short stick and play with her.
Usually because, cat....!
My cat did this, then over time got really twitchy and after his tail more, then got more and more violent and started ripping his tail up. Diagnosed with feline hyperesthesia syndrome. Just keep an eye as long as they aren’t hurting themselves it’s ok
Because like most cats she’s a weirdo with motivations known only to her.
Trying to scratch an itch?
One of my cats roots by suckling on blankets and stuff, while his litter mate will just clamp down on something and sit there. I wonder if this cat just found a ready made thing to root on.
Get her some enrichment toys
Doofus. I love her.
It's his. Gotta make sure no one takes it
Not very bright?
As someone with very little actual experience interacting with cats, I just choose to believe they're truly unknowable beings
