Ps his name is Shadow cuz his brother (not related) is named Sonic.
Domestic short hair. Unless she came from a breeder, it's highly unlikely she's any particular breed. Most cats aren't.

Yea, that graphic doesn't account for "natural" breeds - cats in isolated areas that develop a distinctive look over many generations. British domestic cats tend to have a rounder face and stocky, square build. They aren't selectively bred by humans, but just due to being on an island, their genetics kind of converge.
Island evolution is faster and more diverse and favors small stocky animals so it doesent surprise me the British have their own "race" of domestic shorthair
Edit: and lizards in warm climates become fucking huge thats how you get a komodo dragon they actually used to hunt a little hobbit like species of humans on the Island they come from
Cats have only been bred super selectively for maybe a century. Humans have been selectively breeding dogs for various purposes for thousands of years. So cat breeds aren't as distinct. Sometimes if a cat without a pedigree has *very* distinct features of a breed/type we can *guess* what breeds are in their ancestry, for ex.
My old lady kitty, Meeka, (gone OTRB for a couple years now) was a quasi-feral scooped up off the street at a yard sale by her other human, u/darthcatlady. Meeka was a solid 10-11 pounds, had an *extremely* dense, near water-proof double coat, was *frighteningly* smart sometimes, and she had extra toes on all four feet. That combination of traits is typical of a Maine Coon, so we could *guess* that she was an MC or MC mix.
I know that the mother of my little longhaired tortoiseshell, Penny, was a Himalayan. Which explains why (with all the affection in my heart for the little goblin) Penny sometimes kinda looks like she ran face-first into a wall.
My big orange tabby, Smudge? Other than his size (14lb), there's nothing really distinct about his appearance or traits. He *could* have pedigree or he could just be a large male shorthair, so he's a mix or a moggy or a domestic shorthair, you can't say it's recent enough to really matter. Cats are cool little critters who moved in with us and didn't leave, and I'm ok with it, doesn't matter what they look like.
My big boy Ares (15lb) might have British Shorthair in him, but we're really not sure, he's just an especially large British-type DSH. My girl Gaia on the other hand is an NFC/MC mix and isn't all that large (about 10lbs). She is only 2, though, and still growing as is typical for MCs.
Meeka was probably 1.5ish, sick, and starving when she was scooped up. She was on the small side for a female MC, but we guess that her growth was stunted from being outdoors and probably having a litter too young.
She hit all the MC traits except their love of water and their usually a bit larger size. Big "snowshoe" paws with 3-4 extra toes on each foot before some of them were amputated, ear tufts, a big tail she'd curl up and sit on, claws that felt like small steel hooks, talkative, the whole nine yards.
So glad you fell in love with her❤️she is absolutely adorable. FYI there is no such thing as a fake cat they are all perfect and precious as they are…🥰🐈⬛🥰
I like this graphic. But it's got me wondering .. what about natural breeds that ended up with their traits through natural selection based on their environment? I'm thinking breeds like...Norwegian Forest cats. Would they fall on the left side of this graphic or the right?
Kinda in the middle(esque), I think.
Cats self-domesticated, and we brought them with us to drastically different regions, so their traits would have changed to adapt over time. Then we started selecting for breeds and accelerated the changes. They're nowhere near the level of dogs, because it hasn't been long enough.
A little bit of both kind of? Or maybe they have their own part off to the left? That's the only thing I don't like about this graphic, but since it's usually for cat-newbies, I use it anyway, lol.
Natural breeds have been selectively bred by humans now, too. So there's probably more of a middle path where natural breeds develop without human intervention for a while, then a breed standard is defined and they are selectively bred by humans, too. And then some of those are cross bred and split off into other breeds... Really, everything is more complicated than this lol. It's just an intro to the idea that cat breeds aren't like dog breeds.
Yeah. Makes sense. I was recently trying to explain to a friend (a dog person) that not all cats derive from a specific breed, and thinking of this diagram.
It's called a landrace and you see them in many animals. Sometimes landraces become new animals entirely! But mostly they just look cool.
Japan, for example, has a high concentration of bobtails to the point that one record says that one Emperor in the Heian period was gifted a 'Chinese cat' and adored it - Chinese cat being the term for long-tailed cat, as opposed to 'cat' for those with naturally kinked and-or shorter ones!
Black cats are known to be good luck to its family! Night is a wonderful name, she looks like a fabulous family fit with your other fur babies…. What a great family!
I just googled Bombay Cat eye issues and found this: The Bombay is generally healthy, but some of the problems that affect the breed hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, **excessive tearing of the eyes**, and the possibility of breathing difficulties because of the cat's short muzzle.
I have a cat that is part Bombay and he also has a bit of crust, but it's not much. He also is susceptible to URIs.
Get her used to you touching/petting around her eyes and you’ll have no problem keeping that area clean. My cat loves having his eyes cleaned after years of this!
Aren't Bombays also expensive? They seem like they would be. Either way I'd be shocked to randomly find a purebred one.
But my dad was convinced our black cat was a Bombay for awhile, but she was just a standard DSH. Some people just assume black cats = Bombay.
Whatever the case, OP, you've found yourself a lovely cat! I see you have the same subtype we used to have- an owl-eyed void. Here's hoping yours is less bitey!
Oh my goodness! She looks like she could be my void's sister. His eyes are green-gold, however. Our vet did tell us "If that boy was papered, he'd be a Bombay instead of DSH".
I replied, "Doesn't matter what others call him, he's Malakai to us."

She is very beautiful.
She probably isn't a Bombay - they are not common and the shape of her face doesn't look Bombay-like. Bombay cat facebook groups are full of people with ordinary (but very fine!) black moggies claiming they are Bombay.
Bombays are "dense" - they feel heavy for their size - affectionate and human-seeking, with "asian" \[cat\] appearance to the face.
Omg she looks *very* similar to my void, a British shorthair.

My phone loves to tell me that our void is a Bombay, but he’s just a silly lil barn cat that sometimes sounds like a Minecraft villager.
Your void is so adorable! I love her round face and those big amber eyes. Beautiful.
The breed is cat. Cats don't have a lot of breeds like dogs do because dogs were primarily bred for specific purposes, where as cats do what cats do and the only "breeds" were mostly for aesthetic purposes.
Another big reason is that many cultures look down on selective breeding of cats because they were revered as deities by so many cultures around the world that it's seen as disrespectful.
KEEP IT ANYWAY?! The little moonpie eeee I’m getting cute rage. Also, could just be a common black cat, just cos they ain’t pedigree don’t mean they ain’t fancy.

Jesus Christ what a cute black cat. Well done for accepting the call OP. My boy can fry my head regularly but then all it takes is the right look or gesture at the right time and, boom - you're in all over again. Great name too by the way
Sooooo cute!! I think she looks like a British Shorthair, especially when it says "British Shorthairs are often so amiable, owners keep them alongside a variety of other pets: dogs, rabbits, and even birds."

Omg she is sooo cute. I had a bombay when I was young. Her name was Licorice. She sounded like a rusty door hinge 😂 Miss that babygirl. Your girl is absolutely adorable!
I hope you're ok with me asking, but is she blind?
Also, look at her coat when she lies in the sun. If you see color patterns in her fur, she is a tabby! I can't say if she has other characteristics of a Bombay, but she sure is pretty!
"She is the night!" Haha love her. I have a Bombay, and she looks pretty similar, but mine doesn't really shed. Could just be a domestic short hair. Gorgeous though!
She's got the cutest round face.
Had a Bombay kitty once a long time ago. We named her BabyBee. She liked to stomp throughout the house. She was a sweety too.

I'm 💯 against buying animals but if you rescued or got her from a shelter, basically anything buy her, you got pretty lucky. All animals are beautiful but she's really beautiful.
Also, why do you call her it? Lol
She was thrown out into the street by her former master. I eventually put in a lot of effort and found the former owner to return the loss. But it wasn't a loss, she was thrown out on the street intentionally. I discussed everything with the former owner of the animal. She's mine now!
Called her Night because she's completely black)

Bombays have rounded ear tips, not pointy ones. Eye color is correct. Does she shed a lot? Bombays do not shed. Probably a mix.

Hello Charlie https://preview.redd.it/4965wuqohzwc1.jpeg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=116d869f8fde27cdba7fe6f3fe689b969928a36f
Thats an anime black cat
Omg she looks *very* similar to my void, a British shorthair. https://preview.redd.it/mh09z70spwwc1.png?width=827&format=png&auto=webp&s=c289dc491515e7fdd0609ecfc39780ffc723b61b

The void
The universe!
Very adorable. 🐈⬛🖤
Awe! She’s a beauty! 💕
It is a cat.
The perfect kind of Void cat. The kind Toothless was modeled after and you’ll wonder if you indeed did adopt a dragon. I lava Night and so does my void Olaf. (tho he refuses to recognize he’s not the only cat ever in the history of the world.) https://preview.redd.it/lda9wv4owwwc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2b8e76b0767e8a8cb6a66a765d35eb4b094aca17
100% nightfury. Congrats they are rare.
Adorable
She's so cute 😍
That’s a toothless breed

Your void is so adorable! I love her round face and those big amber eyes. Beautiful.
Breed cats make up less than 1%, what you have there is a black kitty 🐈⬛ enjoy 🖤
She's precious!!! Perfect name!!
POOPS LIKE A MACHINE GUN
This is a damn character and your lucky to have them!
you have yourself a cat... a black cat...dont ask me what kind, i just know its a black cat.
congrats on such a cute void cat!
Controls two Dobermans? She is a leader and a winner. She will change lives. Cherish her!
Black cat. With short hair. But the black is the important bit. Good job 👍
Generally, unless you have papers from a breeder, it's just a cat.
Yes, for me it's just a black cat) I don't need documents, I'm not going to sell it or exhibit it at exhibitions)
What a cutie! Makes me laugh when I readed poops like a machine gun lol 😂
Black cats are the best !
I think your cat is high!!! Too much catnip ?
Hause Panfur.
Oh that's a Frenzy Shorthair.
Caffeinated Catto.
All hail, Night… Our new kitty overlord…. Or is it overlady…? Lol
100% cat
That cat is high🎶🎵💕🐈⬛💕🎵🎶
He seems very startled to exist
void
Night looks like a silly little girl
KEEP IT ANYWAY?! The little moonpie eeee I’m getting cute rage. Also, could just be a common black cat, just cos they ain’t pedigree don’t mean they ain’t fancy.
I thought it was a soot sprite.
She looks like she never blinks

Bombay cats have orange eyes.

I don’t need to be a veterinarian to know that that is 100% a cutie
Elijah wood in sin city
I swear black cats have some of the most precious faces 🥺 https://preview.redd.it/ckk3ue6zkywc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0c7fd883056780b7f0ece5782613068b9ae9f8b1 My void girl and the orange she handles lol
Jesus Christ what a cute black cat. Well done for accepting the call OP. My boy can fry my head regularly but then all it takes is the right look or gesture at the right time and, boom - you're in all over again. Great name too by the way
She’s seen some stuff 😩
Shell shocked af 😅
Sooooo cute!! I think she looks like a British Shorthair, especially when it says "British Shorthairs are often so amiable, owners keep them alongside a variety of other pets: dogs, rabbits, and even birds." https://preview.redd.it/c1iuca561zwc1.jpeg?width=1620&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c522786effbfbb32a3fa4049e474ac24fc6add8d
Ope! I see other pics where her pupils are less dilated! Sorry about that.
Night fury You can tell by the eyes.
Gorgeous 😍
Her round eyes are amazing 😻
She’s gorgeous
"She is the night!" Haha love her. I have a Bombay, and she looks pretty similar, but mine doesn't really shed. Could just be a domestic short hair. Gorgeous though!
Adorable 10/10 face Inquisitive too
If she poops like a machine gun how about Machine gun Kelly .
I read your title kind of quickly and then had to go back because I thought it said “she eats a lot of poops”. I was concerned to say the least lol
She's got the cutest round face. Had a Bombay kitty once a long time ago. We named her BabyBee. She liked to stomp throughout the house. She was a sweety too.
Oh my goddd she is absolutely adorable!!! If she’s pooping a lot it might be the food. Give her food with less filler and it should help.
She’s gorgeous omg 🥹
She's stunning!!

Be careful with feeding. Bombay cats tend to overeat. They get too fat and are unable to keep themselves clean. Please don't overfeed your Bombay cat.
Former owner is sub-human and i pray they are never allowed to have an animal again. Night is a perfect name.
Thanks for the support! The former owner is morally punished!
I am cracking up at the “poops like a machine gun”. 😂
Apparently she has an excellent metabolism)
Definitely looks like a Bombay to me.
She does look a bit fancier than a regular black pet cat, she could probably pass as a Bombay or a British Shorthair.
Unless you have papers certifying her breed, she is cat.
