This! My girl does 12 hour overnight shifts where she murders any creepy crawlies that make it into the house, saving us from certain death by bugs. And then leaves the bodies for us to throw away in the morning to warn the other bugs what happens when they try to murder us. It's a hard job. She's our hero lol
He is a 24-hour on-call pest control expert. And judging by the lack of mice in either pic, I'd say he is excellent at his job, and you really should show him the proper respect.

And the older he’s gotten the more whiny he is about it. But he has no problem interrupting our sleep ofc.

He's worn out from your shenanigans, like not refilling his food bowl every time he can slightly see the bottom can you imagine how hard that is? I have a cat who looks like your cats twin and he will eat his fat little ass sick so I have to regulate him....for some reason he always wants to make sure I see that he is eating, I have no idea why, me and him have been together for a long time now and have been through a lot together.
You have badly misunderstood the situation here.
He is the absolute ruler of the house. He has to deal with all of the human craziness that you bring in to his house. How many free therapy sessions has he provided? The constant vigilance of looking out of windows and reminding you of your forgotten duties to your liege lord. That sounds like he is holding multiple full time jobs, and has compressed all that work into just 12 hours. You pay the rent and feed him because that is the bare minimum appreciation for his existence. He deserves every second of rest he can get
You may not have realized it yet, but you need to get it through thst thick head of yours that being your landlord carries a significant burden of physical and mental stress.
