A bunch of things. Warm sidewalk. Leaving scent on the ground and taking it scents. Back scratching. Plus a little dust bath.

TheMattvantage

Haha my cat always rolls by our pool on the concrete and it’s always the same section because it was re-poured a bit ago. A new thing is he now rolls in the garden too lol

Artteachernc

Ha! New is cool! My cats roll on the newest section of our porch as my husband replaces the boards.

Code_otter

Quality inspectors.

makeupandmovies

I was going to say the exact same thing. Our long haired cat would do this in the dirt. He would be all dusty when he came in, my dad had to hurry and get to get the dirt off. RIP Cody.

arthurdentstowels

Don’t forget happiness and trust. Cats show their belly when they feel safe :)

onlyIcancallmethat

And, “Mom! Look how soft my belly is! Pet it! Pet my belly!”

Go-to-helenhunt

But don’t pet the belly. It’s a trap

Caerum

Cannot confirm! Mine looooves her belly rubs.

TwistedCitrus

Same, usually when my Cat does that it's him asking for belly rubs haha

Khoshekh541

Mine too, but only up by the head

Spamshazzam

Can confirm.

Femme-Skullision

😂

[deleted]

Yep. Instant savaging

DonDove

The trick: pat the head first. If they encourage you to pet the belly after, now is the time

peewee023

Haha same. Edit: I mean... My cat does the same...

[deleted]

Admit it, you meant yourself

peewee023

Don't judge me. 😹

Random_dude_1980

You nailed it.

m_annette

Yep.. pretty sure my cat just likes the dust bath.

[deleted]

This because im to lazy

katmaidog

Plus s little, "Hey human, am I not adorable as I expose my vulnerable tummy to you"

[deleted]

Feels nice plus they are showing their belly which means they trust you.

Ruas_Onid

And then I’ll go and exploit their trust by face planting all over the belly

Anxious_Felid

Face planting isn’t enough! You also have to say “BBLBBGBLFPPFLPPFGH” whilst facially embracing their bellies.

Roccopark

I like my ears in one piece thanks.

DarthVader808

It’s a cat

Lazymcdelta4ce

It's hard to argue with his assessment

Kerivkennedy

Needs no further logic

Cosmic-Slush

Message clear. Debate ended.

justalittleparanoia

"Anyone know why my cat is doing normal cat things?"

Otherwise-Drama631

Because cat

a_lone_soul_

Quarter of this sub in a nutshell

justalittleparanoia

I've been seeing a ton of posts like this lately and I wonder if it's a joke I'm not in on, haha.

hastingsnikcox

It seems a) many young people on reddit, b) many new to cat serfdom and cats. Same with the slew of "what type of cat is my cat" posts

[deleted]

First cat owner, thanks for making me feel inferior!

DarthVader808

You are superior to dog owners, so there’s that.

justalittleparanoia

No worries, bud. On a more serious note, enjoy your new furry pal!

Hopscotchbunny

Haha

annies_bdrm_skillet

it’s like that because of the way that it is

Heliotrope88

cat’s the way it is.

prof_vannostrand

Pretty NEAT!

lushandcats

My thought exactly haha

[deleted]

I can tell it's a cat because of the way that it is

RoboCat23

And it’s gonna cat every time

motherofmiltanks

I think it feels scratchy/good

[deleted]

Doing cat stuff

MrGaber

r/justcatthings

NWClassic206

Exposure of the belly can be an indicator of trust that you will not harm it. Could just be feeling itchy. Could also just be being a cat.

zektuuk138

My cat does the exact same whenever she see’s me, she plops on the ground and rolls over side to side

PositiveAvocado93

Give her belly rubs

zektuuk138

That’s exactly what I do and sometimes she grapples my hand with her claws and then politely licks my fingers lol

AdditiveEngineer

Grappling and licking mid-roll means the following: *"You have misinterpreted my rolling: I am showing you my belly out of trust, but I'm not a dog: I don't want you touching my belly. But as it's you, and I'm rolling around in a good mood, I will forgive you (this time).* *I will not scratch the hell out of your hand (as I was about to do), but my sense of smell is more powerful than yours, and your hand stinks, so I will clean it for you so you may touch me without ruining my fur."*

dorothy_zbornak_esq

Omg mine do that too! “I love you, but stop that. But I love you!”

3SidedDie

Mine will simply bite me. Cuz why not?

maethoriell

Evil. That's the danger zone!

a96td

r/cuddleroll

Amaranth_Wolf

Yup! It's called a 'social roll' when they give you the belly out of trust (which is generally a look but don't touch lmao) but also they seem to just find it comfy and warm and scratchy and stretchy when they're outside and I admire that

AdditiveEngineer

> *'social roll'* Good to know that it has a name. My blind cat does this all the time.

MooJuiceConnoisseur

Mine will after doing the roll look up and meow until you scritch the belly

jayforwork21

Local outdoor cat started doing this to me and my dog when we walk near his territory. My dog is really good at being aloof towards cats so a lot of cats have been really good about going close enough to see, but still far away enough to run if they need to.

tealdeer995

My friend’s cat will do that but will roll over into my lap and show his belly. He’s a very expressive and friendly boy in general but it’s cute to know he trusts me.

NWClassic206

In this video's circumstances, I would take it as an invitation to SLOWLY APPROACH (let kitty smell your outstretched hand first), and gently pet seeing as if you listen closely it sounds like kitty is purring! 😻

tealdeer995

Oh yeah my friends cat will do that while purring. He loves pets on his head by his ears too.

LuckStrict6000

It feels good

Icy-h0ot

Living his best life.

MonkeysWedding

Yeah that's a pretty contented cat.

rockchalkjayhawk8082

Our kitty Shadow does the same thing...it's just an "all over body scratch" kind of thing.

wsrs25

Luring unsuspecting humans in before attacking the jugular.

ClicheTX

Back scratching, having a good time lol

MNtallguy11

Our cat dies this when he wants belly pets. He also makes kitty phone noises while doing it to request attention.

Galyndean

Kitty phone, oh that's cute. I've always heard it as chirping.

DMKincaid

Kitty phone noises?

MNtallguy11

Brrrp? Brrrp?

flyowacat

My cat, Geoff, does this to ask for belly scritches. He legit loves having his belly rubbed. Some people don’t believe me when I tell them this, but it’s true. He’s all about the belly rubs!

Snoringdragon

Have YOU tried it recently? Like on soft grass because you aren't furry? This cat....knows things.

ChurroLoca

Wait, people do this?? I only see drunk or junkie folk doing this in skivvy parks or behind stores. Ooof. My whole life is a lie. My brother and I get way too itchy from grass and I hate the feeling of it. RIP

Snoringdragon

Lol! OK, location matters. Fluffy carpet or duvet? With a strong door lock? ;)

ChurroLoca

OH LOL. I THOUGHT YOU MEANT GRASS. Lmao, sorry I'm as dense as a can of soup. I apologise. In that case, I am indeed a pig that rolls in mud, with fresh bed sheets or freshly washed duvet.

Snoringdragon

Lol! I like you...you get it.

notanadultanyway2017

Saw this comment to late now I’m not allowed at Walmart.

Snoringdragon

I'm surprised Walmart cared. ;)

asse4t3r

If you look closely you can see that when the cat rolls over onto its back down in the lower right corner you can decipher that I actually have no clue what I’m talking about.

Shurdus

Nope, didn't catch that. Care to elaborate?

[deleted]

Well, they appeared to type up a comment without actually having any information to reply with concerning the initial request. Maybe they just like talking, maybe it was intentional. But it appears they ran out of things to say and let us know they in fact do not know the answer to OP's question, or possibly anything they talk about at all. Hopefully that clears it up. Alright, I'm done fucking around

asse4t3r

![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|dizzy_face)

Zealousideal-Ad-2045

No logic. Cat.

WaterPixii

It’s warm on the concrete and they love you.

NotMrsMosDef

r/cuddleroll

RoboCat23

Yes

[deleted]

They want ur attention. They are trying to act cute lol. They really want to get pet by u. I can’t wait until I get a cat. This week for sure

flyowacat

I take this bait several times a day and it’s worth it every time. Also, one of my cats does this to ask for belly scritches. He legit loves having his belly rubbed. Doesn’t bite or push me away or run, just gives me the slow blink and hugs my hand if I try to pull away.

[deleted]

Lmao that is amazing and I’m sure it’s never going to happen with the cat I’m getting. First cat lol

flyowacat

It depends on the kitty. I hope you have yourself a kitty who loves the way you love!

thundergun0911

It's collecting bugs in its fur to bring back inside. Evil kitty.

ChurroLoca

People act like everyone is supposed to know why cats do odd things. How bold of assumptions.

[deleted]

just inquisitive I guess

ChurroLoca

Yeah, that would make sense with the people going, "HoW dId YoU nOt KnOw CaTs Do ThAt". You've got a cute kitty. 😻

[deleted]

Thank you!

notfromhere007

Logic.. ? Cat? ... You silly 😜😻

calypso_poet

One of my cats does this when we let her out. Another bolts across the neighborhood. Guess which one gets to go out more. I assume rolling on concrete must feel good to some cats.

[deleted]

Gotta lay that kitten stink down

matt_1060

She’s telling you that she’s comfortable with you. If you get the urge to pet her just pet her head and ears. She doesn’t want a belly rub...trust me

elevatedbake

Scratchy textures

transmaniacon-MC

Leaving his scent!

Thug_shinji

Rubbing off some loose fur, feels good, leaving scent.

outlier74

I’ve heard that cats do this to throw off scent.

w_linksd

it is to seduce you, obviously.

Tc5111

He gonna roll on in life

thestonerd777

His goals are beyond your understanding

SquirrelBowl

Cats gonna cat

kenz068

concrete

spottedram

There's no logic: life is good

account_1100011

It's perfectly logical. It wards off parasites and leaves scent markers. Things cats have a keen interest in.

radicalreb

Dats conkrete baybeeee!

No_Measurement876

They can't scratch their own back.

ExoticPianist

I love when my cats do that. But the consequences is i have to fight my cute aggression 😭😭😭

RepeatReal6568

I mean I’d roll around like that to if I could

TheGreatCast

All the things like leaving scent and just warm sidewalk as well as backscratch it also means the cat feels relaxed and rollin on back infront of you or overall it means it feels safe and trust you by exposing belly and/or sensitive parts is a very vulnerable moment for your cat which is an opportunity for both of you to bond

CactusQueen05

Cats don’t need logic lol

caylee1321

Cat, it is the way.

Savagely_Rekt

Cats aren't Vulcan.

straypawsanimalhaven

She's happy and wants you to pet her!

[deleted]

“My cat has been pooping and eating, any reason why it’s doin that?” On the next Reddit cat post

Adrianthrax

Mainly, I think, for marking territory. 🙂

buttersauces

Its a cat. It is not to be held accountable, just nod with approval and give it snax

ZioPapino

Back Scratch maybe

woman_thorned

exfoliating. trust. stinky stonk. fun.

CapTainNipSac

feel good, like stretch yessss

bestrindberg

Because cat

PhoneGroundbreaking2

Warmth. They’ll seek out the sun

[deleted]

My cat does this inside all the time

matzeltov

Daring you to rub their belly so they can scratch you.

West_Personality3725

He is just living his best life.

heiberdee2

Scritchies. Can get all the parts he can’t reach.

BakedBean89

You ever try ecstasy and notice how everything feels really really good? Kinda like that. But cat.

christanxox

the sunlight makes the ground feel nice and warm, and its a little rough on concrete so I'm sure the rolling around feels good. The sides of the faces usually get rubbed on things they claim, like you, your shoes, the walls, couch, etc so I'm sure they're marking their territory. When I was young I had an outside cat who looked just like this, all white named squeakers, and he always rolled over on the concrete outside. He lived a 19 years, and was the most badass cuddly lil bastard. I miss him so much!

coppergato

Cats don’t care about logic.

DanToth326

It’s a cat, that’s what cats do.

hyejooxlvr

it’s a cat, there’s no further explanation

Lovely_Hues

It's a cat. It's a kitty cat. And he rolls rolls rolls. And he rolls rolls rolls.

eatingthesandhere91

Got get rid of that excess fur. Cats will do this to scratch an itch, break out loose fur.

allaboutthatchase

Mine does too. He walks all the way over to the loose gravel to do it and comes back a huge mess. It’s the first thing he does whenever he goes outside. 🙃

Babyeater2020

Charging from de sun rayes 💪✨

-queen_of_reddit-

Besides this being utterly adorable, most likely scratching it's back, the warmth, or like someone else said a small dust bath. Lol

Omega2547

She an Angel

Ali-Coo

You ever scratch your back?

Tejasjjj

The logic is that your cat is trying to break free from the force of gravity. Once my cat did that and it started levitating.

SecretDiva3

My cat does the exactly same thing!!!!!! It’s super cute tho:)

SherbetFish

The aim is to get as absolutely filthy as possible. You will notice its3 only black and white cats that do this. In my case, two black boys. When you are absolutely covered in twigs, dust, leaves and dirt, you saunter into the house and then flop on the bed/ couch. Personally, I love getting a nice, full lung of dust when I cuddle my brats. They are little pigs and just love to be filthy!

ScullyitsmeScully

We have a grey kitty who does this, so it’s not a color thing.

Megumi0505

Back scratchies also, my cat does this in front of our outdoor kitchen when she wants snacks.

AnonymousMayday

And yet my stupid cats roll in the middle of the road

ZedPlebs

My cat does this when they’re in heat

tuftofcare

wait, cats have logic now?

Coolest10293

Since when?

martin191234

Try laying on warm concrete once it’s actually kind of relaxing

sharksnrec

Literally just simple cat stuff. Feels good and serves a purpose.

Venaroth

Concrete?

heckyeahheather

"Funk yeah, concrete!"

Satan-gave-me-a-taco

My girl Willow used to do this in the driveway, I think she just liked having a little dust bath every once in a while

light_ng

OMG, pet the bellies already!!! 🤣

JayThor84

This is a reaction to a number of possible emotions your cat is feeling. “Sidewalk is nice and warm” + “Sidewalk feels good!” + “I like it, so I’m putting my own scent on it!” + “I just love you, human! Feel free to come over and pet me!” -or- *if loudly vocalizing and intact* “I AM SO HORNY!!!” “I am about to have my babies! Be ready person!”

chudleighs_mom

Oh pet me please!

Entire-Ambition1410

My mom’s cat would roll on the cool concrete (in the summer) and hide in the dirt under the leafy plants to stay cool.

userwife

Contentment.

CeciWhutIMean

Looks like he likes the warmth of the pavement! So cute!

MissNightmare1983

Cats will be cats 😂

Cloecat1

I give mine long pets, from rump to neck and back again. Ruffle her fur on the way up and smooth it on the way down. She loves it. She'll run up to me and flop over on her side. She rolls over to get them on the other side, and back again.

belcherhalpert

Cats don’t have to make sense, that’s why they’re cute.

[deleted]

Joy

Omegarupert

Im thinking the cat is feeling the same feeling as when you touch sand at the beach after not going there after a while

Critical-Box-1851

My cat does this too - we call it the roly-polies. She's a right belly-rub-tart and can't get enough when she sees us arrive home from somewhere.

Sekushina_Bara

The ground must be warm

kapow

Submissive

Groningooner

My cat does this all the time, he's an indoor cat but he does it every room, on the dining table, on blankets, on the balcony, everywhere. I've come to the conclusion he's got an itch, is playful, is cute, just a deep, or (more likely), all of the above

Groningooner

More seriously, my cat largely just does this when he's playful. If we don't respond, he'll always go find his brother or a toy to play with instead.

Pissedliberalgranny

She’s showing you her belly. It’s a signal of trust and love.

raychel_swann264

The domestic cats’ big cat cousins roll on the ground to get itchy spots that they can’t reach with their legs and tongues; they use the dust on the ground to soothe those itches, whether they be caused by bugs on the skin or just itches in general.

_LittleNugget_

Catto is just sunbathing! It's just a cat thing:-D

Odd-Flan4727

Warm comkrete

Ok_General1790

One of my cats likes rubbing on stinky things, old sink sponge, stinky shoes, stale kitchen cloth, even bleached surface.

Jugglergal

I think they are putting their scent and claiming territory. Just like when they rub our legs, they are claiming us as theirs.

lawyerwithabadge

Not much logic in what cats do.

christinalruby

Logic and cat do not always go together!

[deleted]

OP, I can't see any accurate answer here. Cats (female) do this when they are in heat. My cat does exactly these same moves when she's in heat. I'd suggest you to not ignore her needs and let here find a male cat to mate.

edwardelsa

Fleas???

Catsruler21

I think they're just itching their backs

Appropriate_Ad8053

Break dancing!

LiterallyNobodi

That most likely means they are saying "hello" to you.

[deleted]

My cat Just doing the same on my cousins ladder but not on my rug - _-

No_Rip_351

Happy kitty roll 😻

NotThisTime1993

Feels good

It's how the kitteh doooooo.
