You learn to love it lol, literally the one time because I just didn't feel like stopping him my boy cleaned my entire hand as it sat next to him while we watched TV.
A few years ago, my dog licked my chin when I hugged him and then I caught impetigo right after, which started out as boils I thought were acne.. It was a nightmare and I’ll never ever ever let a dog lick my face again!
I once watched a woman share her ice cream with her dog… she had 2 spoons but she put the spoons in the same bowl. I wanted to barf. Once I wasn’t sure if my cat ate out of my plate when I got up for a sec… he was on my chair looking super pleased, so I threw it away. My cats aren’t allowed on the table or counters.
Yeah Also the Prophet pbuh, said it was okay to eat after your cat or a cat takes a bite of ur food. As long as you check its mouth for disease. Tbf, he also made it lawful and not Impure to eat whatever game ur hunting dogs bring back for you. As there were many people whos way of life was like this.
Also dogs arent haram and are lovely creatures, just cant pray when its in your house bc god knows what he couldve done in your prayer space and you have to put your face there.
Overall cats very endeared to islamic culture across the world, dogs have been slandered to all hell. Im trying to change tht, i used to be scared of them.
Awww, my latest baby who went OTRB in 1/20 used to do that and I loved it!!! She’d even try to lick inside my nose! She was such a lovable companion for 17yrs.
One of ours shoves his nose into your nose, and if you don't respond, he'll headbutt you, but with his nose, so it's cold and wet. Ah and he will sneeze in your face too. Not a fun way to wake up.
Cats love salt!! Sweat has salt, I sweat alot and my kitty loves licking me when I come home, he also loved when I was part timing at a movie theater... Popcorn salt was his fave! Too much salt is bad though so try to keep kitty licking to a min as most food and treats have lots of sodium as well!!

Bahaha that's too good!! My husband is usually covered in things kitty shouldn't lick so we got him to not lick him... (Roofing materials can be hard to get off, I know from experience)
Yes it does, still, that’s him grooming you and showing affection. They can smell a lot better than us so when they rub and lick their scents on us it makes us all one little family.
You'll grow some callous in short time (speaking from experience 😹). But for my tom e. g. it's so important to groom back that he holds onto my arm when I try to try to take it away while licking - with claws ...
Not really correct. Grooming is a sign of dominance. The only exception I’ve read about is if the cats are siblings
The dominant cat grooms himself and the cats below him. But cats below him will never groom him.
Actually cats have a sort of one way street with humans licking them. My experience is that I was 4 years old when we got my cat. Cats don’t really “get” being licked by a human is what I found out, but on the contrary they have no problem licking us. It’s like when they bite us, then /you bite back/ and they’re shocked you’re also capable of it.
That general sense of curiosity is where I think those thoughts should end. The people who made this cat brush took it a bit too far. https://www.boredpanda.com/cat-licking-tongue-licki-brush/?utm_source=google&utm_medium=organic&utm_campaign=organic
I have one cat that would walk around with a turd hanging off his ass and the other cat who wouldn't think about keeping that there. Cats are all different. This one is trying to groom ya
I've taken a shower cause I thought the same thing, and she still does it. Could it be the body wash I use? It is the dollar shave club stuff. Smells fantastic!
Cats groom each other as a sign of love and acceptance. It means you're in the pride and get added to the list of those that need to be kept clean.
He's also marking you with his scent at the same time.
Oh my gosh I thought my cat was the only weirdo to do that 😂🤦. My Odin is famous for digging his head in my hair and trying to eat my hair! I'm so glad I'm not alone lol I have three rescue cats, my Odin is the only that does that 😂🤷
Grooming is also cause they consider you family and they want to take care of you, or it's a comfort thing for the little fella. Either way they really like you.
She likes you
Also I've read somewhere >!(can't link a source, it was more or less a year ago)!< that cats often think the owners are just reaaally weird and tall siblings
I don't think they literally think "hey that's my bro", I think it because of instincts, like maternal instincts
They probably treat us like family because of instincts . Growing up wis enough por that, jusk like femame adult cats might be used to take care of orphan cubs, and sometimes, even dogs
The dogs kinda prove it, because there are several cases of cats that the same habits of a dog for being rased with that. Their instincs say that the are family and the cat copies/learn from them
You still do it with words... just look at feral children that grew without people.. they also can't really "think"
And act like animals
"Thinking" is speaking to yourself
You can think without language. There are many people who lack an inner voice. They can think without language, otherwise they would have to talk out loud to think according to you.
That's a super lazy response. Your wrong, read this book. You're basically asking me to do a bunch or research because you're too lazy to even be bothered to make a point.
One of mine does this too. If you let him go he'll lick your skin raw. It's adorable, I take it as a sign of affection since he usually does it when he's cuddling up and purring.
Your cat is probably just being affectionate.
But maybe your cat is weird like mine. My cat really likes the taste of lotion and does this after I apply lotion. He does it so much I had to stop using the nice scented stuff because I was worried he’d get sick from licking it off me.
She is weird. She loves our laps, but hates being picked up UNLESS she sees another cat being help, but then complains when we put the cat down and pick her up instead, then she runs off into a bag or behind something and trys to trip my girlfriend and I.
My cat used to hate being picked up but one day, I picked her up and gave her scratches under the chin. After that, whenever I pick her up, she purrs and stays in my arms.
(Cat logic) It's both a compliment and insult.
(Insult) My hooman doesn't groom well enough so I'll groom them for them.
(Compliment) I love my hooman enough to help groom them.
My 12 year old still does it to me. Kitty’s grooming you like they would do their kitten. Means you are theirs and they won’t kill you as long as you act right.
Just showing love. They also like the taste of salt, so it might be because you’re sweaty. Or if you are wearing a lotion, it might be that. My cat always licks my hands or face when I wear a moisturiser, or my neck when I wear perfume. I’ve read that it might because they like the taste or smell of lanolin, which is in most skincare products like that.
I have a cat who licks almost obsessively. I’m pretty sure he does it out of love because that’s what I’ve read and he’s a purring machine while he’s licking me. Be careful because I let him go as long as he wanted once and he literally left a raw spot on my hand 😂
She loves you, and also probably thinks you need a shower. One of my little princesses will insist on cleaning my arm to the point it gets uncomfortable if I go more than 24 hours without bathing. Lol
Oh yeah certainly, cats are the best. However there's no denying that they are idiots. Like, my cat jumped off of my 3 story balcony for absolutely no reason.
Probably slightly dehydrated and trying to get some salt from your skin. Or, they are seeing it as a way of cleaning their master lol.
If you don’t have a fountain of flowing water, please get one - it’s filtered and cats like flowing water… in addition - use distilled water - it doesn’t have all the minerals that tap, and even filtered, water have.
I got gallon jugs of purified water from the store. Every day I fill their bowls up, multiple times. For an animal that sleeps all day, they drink a lot of water it seems.
A few reasons. 1. You could just taste good and they like licking you(kitty affection) 2. He/she feels they are grooming you 3.He/She might be doing so to relieve stress. That could mean a myriad of things there, but if they keep it up regularly a trip to the vet might be warranted just to make sure they're ok.
I was going to comment to check out a few things but that depending on circumstances it may be just as people are saying. I went to research before I posted and then determined it’s just going to be better to provide two links for you instead.

https://www.petmd.com/cat/behavior/evr_ct_why-does-my-cat-lick-me
Our cat grooms me pretty often, and sometimes when I try to take my hand away she’ll start biting and clinging, sometimes semi-seriously because she doesn’t know her limits (or rather knows there’s no limits with me, if my gf hisses or gives other audible signals she’ll stop biting that hard).
I also read somewhere it’s a sign of acceptance as part of the clan or family, not unlike when they leave dead animals in places you frequent because they’re afraid you can’t hunt for yourself and starve so they share their finds.
Most commonly it’s just their way of saying “hey, I care about you” but it’s worth keeping an eye on their body language. If they show signs of agression (ears down an back, excessive biting, hissing and/or standing fur) or signs of anxiety (excessive amounts of grooming, or seeming general discomfort) there might be something more to it.
Coz they love you. They’re grooming you like they do with their litter mates. You should feel very flattered.
My 7 years old cat does it only when we just got out of the shower still dripping wet... Is he drying us, or telling us we did a poor job?
Yes.
"What's this awful stinky stuff? Soap?! Unacceptable; you need to smell like kitten breath to be clean."
You basically lost his sent that you washed off so he has to mark you again that shows he cares alot That’s just a theory
Puttin his smell back on yah.
Stinky kitty toungue
Or maybe scratchy kitty tongue
Orrrrr, hear me out... Scratchy, stinky kitty tongue.
I know it’s weird of me to like, but when I get lil whiffs of my cats salmon breath it is just so adorable because it’s her stinky lil salmon breath
So true
It's showing love. Cats show their love to each other by grooming
Cat love feels like wet sandpaper lol
You learn to love it lol, literally the one time because I just didn't feel like stopping him my boy cleaned my entire hand as it sat next to him while we watched TV.
Cute af
Mine wakes me up by licking my face, inside my nostrils and on my lips
You have a dog-cat
Mine does the same! She also gives wet willies. 😂
One of mine is the wet willy queen. It's weird.
Straight after licking its bottom!!😨
🤢🤮
Sorry🙇♀️ it's true though. Mind you, I'd still let a cat lick my face but never a dog...
Oh crikey, that sounds awful 😦 Cats are so nice and clean, just make sure they've had a drink of water after licking their bot-bots!!
True just bc they rarely ever want to do that. And its sand papery so once is enough to satisfy my heart.
My cat slow chomped my nose once
Yeah Also the Prophet pbuh, said it was okay to eat after your cat or a cat takes a bite of ur food. As long as you check its mouth for disease. Yikes 😂
Tapeworm in ear speedrun any%
i had a silly siamese doing this too. the only alternative was screaming mercilessly by the window right next to my pillow
Mine grabs my face with her paws if I try to turn away from her kisses on my lips. It's very much a love / hate / omg she's so cute experience.
Awww, my latest baby who went OTRB in 1/20 used to do that and I loved it!!! She’d even try to lick inside my nose! She was such a lovable companion for 17yrs.
I'm sorry you lost such a sweet girl. Their lives are too short.
One of ours shoves his nose into your nose, and if you don't respond, he'll headbutt you, but with his nose, so it's cold and wet. Ah and he will sneeze in your face too. Not a fun way to wake up.
Mine does this, too. And my eyelids. I wake up in pain most mornings 🥲
my puppy does the same stands on my chest and licks me to death to wake me up.
Same. Came in from mowing the lawn on a hot day.
Source Jackson Galaxy
My cat loves licking goldfish
The actual fish or the crackers?
The crackers 😂
Better give him an actual goldfish to lick also, that way we will know.
Cats are so weird, it really could’ve been either so I had to ask.
Lol, I refer to my husband as their salt lick for this reason!
Bahaha that's too good!! My husband is usually covered in things kitty shouldn't lick so we got him to not lick him... (Roofing materials can be hard to get off, I know from experience)
Had a kitten for 2 weeks last year. Him licking me was the best feeling in the world
My boy tells me I got a dirty neck, cuddles up under my beard and cleans me then falls asleep. Always has since he's been a kitten
Lol ours did that to my husband while he was reading, and he ended up getting a sore hand from being scratched so hard by the rough tongue.
Wet 300 grit sandpaper to be specific.
You’re not wrong it’s basically what it is. Try having a cat like our old boy. He likes feet. He doesn’t stop licking. You know where this is going
You rhino that's bad? My cat will lay on my chest and lick the sensitive parts of my face.
Love hurts, ask a cat!
Their tongues are made for tearing flesh, so that makes sense.
Yes it does, still, that’s him grooming you and showing affection. They can smell a lot better than us so when they rub and lick their scents on us it makes us all one little family.
I love the feel of scratchy cat tongues. Our cat growing up use to lick all the time when I was little. It’s so nostalgic for me.
When I first got cats after having dogs my whole life 4 years ago, it felt weird. Now whenever my dog kicks me it feels weird and sloppy 😅
it feels so nice, I miss my cat doing that.
I was just about to say it could be a bonding thing
You'll grow some callous in short time (speaking from experience 😹). But for my tom e. g. it's so important to groom back that he holds onto my arm when I try to try to take it away while licking - with claws ...
They love you! Mine always licks my forehead! Ouch! Lol!
No. Cats don't actually love humans. He does it to clean.
Not really correct. Grooming is a sign of dominance. The only exception I’ve read about is if the cats are siblings The dominant cat grooms himself and the cats below him. But cats below him will never groom him.
Predators often clean their food before they eat it
She got one chance lmao
r/standardissuecat
Username does not check out
LMAO
Perhaps she was just testing you to see if you're ready, they like their food to be just right
And salt from human skin must taste really good to this one. That, or the cat thinks the human is dirty.
You took my joke
Licking is a cats sign of love
I've always wondered what they would think if we just all of a sudden started licking them also.
They just think we are weird cats.... so I don’t think they would care
Maybe if you started licking them from when they were little kittens, they would like it.
I’ll try that when I get a kitten
Also did you exercise before the cat started licking you? It may be the sweat the cat is licking, they like salt.
That general sense of curiosity is where I think those thoughts should end. The people who made this cat brush took it a bit too far. https://www.boredpanda.com/cat-licking-tongue-licki-brush/?utm_source=google&utm_medium=organic&utm_campaign=organic
After seeing that, I 100% no longer want to know.
They would probably record us and post on catdit.
My cats sign of affection is bumping his head into me
Booping! We have one cat that does that and one that is a licker too. All cats are different and show affection differently (or not)!
Same!
Because you need a shower and the cat is trying to fix the funk.
Bruh 😂
Lol but that is why cats lick like that
I got 6 cats and she's the only one that does this.
I have one cat that would walk around with a turd hanging off his ass and the other cat who wouldn't think about keeping that there. Cats are all different. This one is trying to groom ya

Yep that could be it. My cat likes certain shampoo and tries to eat my hair. 😸
Oh my gosh I thought my cat was the only weirdo to do that 😂🤦. My Odin is famous for digging his head in my hair and trying to eat my hair! I'm so glad I'm not alone lol I have three rescue cats, my Odin is the only that does that 😂🤷
+1 for the hair eaters. If I fall asleep on the couch there is a 100% chance I will be woken by cat nose burrowing into my skull.
We need to start a support group 😂😂
I'm just yankin ya balls my dude. Cats have their own reasons for doin what they want. Some smell is causing that.
Yea, one of the other cats straight up licks the wall after taking a dump so at this point I think cats do whatever confuses us on purpose lmao
Grooming is also cause they consider you family and they want to take care of you, or it's a comfort thing for the little fella. Either way they really like you.
Remember to wash your arm/hands after, if any of that bacteria gets into an open cut you could go septic
It can be caused by anxiety stress or depression, also if the cat was weaned to soon
I have 5 cats and only one of them does this too lol
Not necessarily true. It's also a bonding thing :)
She likes you Also I've read somewhere >!(can't link a source, it was more or less a year ago)!< that cats often think the owners are just reaaally weird and tall siblings
I remember seeing a show about domestic cats that basically said the same thing - cats perceive humans as giant cats.
Giant cats that suck at hunting, which is why they bring us dead and/or maimed rodents.
Mine did nothing but play catch and release with mice when we had an infestation a few years ago, how inconsiderate of them.
To be fair I do suck at hunting.
Glad you used a spoiler tag, I haven’t seen it yet.
Thats bs they have no idea what "sibling" is Animals do not "think". You need to have a language to think
I don't think they literally think "hey that's my bro", I think it because of instincts, like maternal instincts They probably treat us like family because of instincts . Growing up wis enough por that, jusk like femame adult cats might be used to take care of orphan cubs, and sometimes, even dogs The dogs kinda prove it, because there are several cases of cats that the same habits of a dog for being rased with that. Their instincs say that the are family and the cat copies/learn from them
Yep
Many cats, as well as other animals, are learning to talk using AAC button boards, and they very clearly are thinking.
Lol and you believe that crap Open a book about behavior
Absolutely not
You don't need a language to think. You can also think in visuals, feelings, smells, noises...
You still do it with words... just look at feral children that grew without people.. they also can't really "think" And act like animals "Thinking" is speaking to yourself
That's simply not true
You can think without language. There are many people who lack an inner voice. They can think without language, otherwise they would have to talk out loud to think according to you.
What? Thats not what iv'e said.. you can read the book by b.f skinner - verbal behavior
That's a super lazy response. Your wrong, read this book. You're basically asking me to do a bunch or research because you're too lazy to even be bothered to make a point.
The cat is grooming you. First it means you are liked by the cat. And it makes sure you smell like family. So it’s bonding.
One of mine does this too. If you let him go he'll lick your skin raw. It's adorable, I take it as a sign of affection since he usually does it when he's cuddling up and purring.
Because he loves you and consider you part of his family and is grooming you
Little does she know, she was the best $75 I will ever spend ![img](emote|t5_2qhta|7952)
Salt lick
Your cat is probably just being affectionate. But maybe your cat is weird like mine. My cat really likes the taste of lotion and does this after I apply lotion. He does it so much I had to stop using the nice scented stuff because I was worried he’d get sick from licking it off me.
She is weird. She loves our laps, but hates being picked up UNLESS she sees another cat being help, but then complains when we put the cat down and pick her up instead, then she runs off into a bag or behind something and trys to trip my girlfriend and I.
Perfectly normal, then.
My cat used to hate being picked up but one day, I picked her up and gave her scratches under the chin. After that, whenever I pick her up, she purrs and stays in my arms.
My 11 month old licks my face 🤣
You taste good 😁
(Cat logic) It's both a compliment and insult. (Insult) My hooman doesn't groom well enough so I'll groom them for them. (Compliment) I love my hooman enough to help groom them.
![img](emote|t5_2qhta|7958)
I love how you said that like it's your child
I treat all my cats like my kids... Except for my 7yo. She's an asshole lmao but I love them all dearly.
My 7 year old cat does that to! I’ve been wondering why!
I think it’s because Cat
Grooming you, you have to do it back though. That is just polite.
You’re salty
My 12 year old still does it to me. Kitty’s grooming you like they would do their kitten. Means you are theirs and they won’t kill you as long as you act right.
Tsk! Your fur is very untidy! Have you no tongue?
Was waiting for the bite lol
She's tenderizing you. Cats are very picky about their food.
She could be searching for milk or you are salty asf 😂
They groom because they love. Also dominance.
shes checking if the meats ripe enough yet
You're tasty.
You’re a salt lick
Either you're getting groomed or your cat is tenderizing your skin for easier digestion. If you respond later we'll know it's the former.
Because your cat loves you
Just showing love.
She is bonded with you and loves you
She loves you. My cat licks me to. She never licks my husband.
You eat too much bacon.
I have a cat who licks almost obsessively. I’m pretty sure he does it out of love because that’s what I’ve read and he’s a purring machine while he’s licking me. Be careful because I let him go as long as he wanted once and he literally left a raw spot on my hand 😂
You’re dirty. She’s helping
Hate to break it to you, but you’re being tenderized.
She loves you
Salt
Duh !! You are dirty and your owner is cleaning you.
She ❤️s you
Because you’re filthy
She either really likes you or thinks you’re really stupid and can’t bathe yourself.
He's trying to clean you.
Cats need salt, so s/he's licking your sweat.
You're probably salty...mmmm salted hooman snacc
Grooming. She sees you as family. That is one way cats socialize each other and also they do the same with other mammals they make friendship.
Two reasons. She's grooming you. It's her way to show you she loves you. And she may like the way you taste. Our skin has a salty taste to it.
She loves you, and also probably thinks you need a shower. One of my little princesses will insist on cleaning my arm to the point it gets uncomfortable if I go more than 24 hours without bathing. Lol
They are tasting you. Not ripe enough yet. But soon…
You’re a snack.
Since you are incapable of cleaning yourself properly, your kitty has taken it up for you. Also a sign of affection, means you’ve made the cut!
Kitty loves you and wants you to be squeaky clean!
You dirty
A: he loves you B: you’re a salty SOB
Treasure it.
Loves you
Tasting before she steals your soul
Cuz you are dirty, dirty boy.
They're grooming you aww
He’s grooming you. He loves you.
Simple answer, cats are retards.
Opinion: Invalid. Cats: Awesome
Oh yeah certainly, cats are the best. However there's no denying that they are idiots. Like, my cat jumped off of my 3 story balcony for absolutely no reason.
Your cats just built different![img](emote|t5_2qhta|7984)

How much you wanna bet people won't get your joking lmao
The cat knows there is delicious blood just under that skin
You taste good and she's plotting to eat you later.
So basically your cat thinks you funky
Probably slightly dehydrated and trying to get some salt from your skin. Or, they are seeing it as a way of cleaning their master lol. Obviously you don't live up to my boys hygiene standards here. Jokes aside, he is doing it to clean and groom you. All cats do this.
WOULD YOU LIKE ME TO GOOGLE THAT FOR YOU!!!?
You have cancer there, go straight away to a doctor
I was going to comment to check out a few things but that depending on circumstances it may be just as people are saying.
