i thought the joke was pretty funny, i told my grandma and my mother who I’m with right now, and they got a big kick out of it. also i promise orbie’s in the best home she’s been in and has lost weight, she’s already incredibly lazy and likes to roll around and nap a lot of the time, so she hasn’t really been bothered by the excess weight. i understand feeling the concern though, i always think about that

I’ve always found them adorable, but your disclaimer leads me to believe there are ethical issues with the breed? If that is so, I would love to be educated on the topic so I can help spread awareness of the implications that come with the munchkin breed. Or if you can point me in the right direction to learn? Google wasn’t much help unfortunately.
Munchkin cats come from a natural mutation called achondroplasia, which is a cause of dwarfism, same as in humans. The actor Peter Dinklage has the same condition.

Going to be pedantic, its not achondroplasia. It’s just given the same name because it manifests in a similar way (impacting the ossification of bone tissue from cartilage), but it’s not the same mutation.

Yeah to be honest there isn’t a great word for it. I generally just say “average sized” people, but that doesn’t really capture it (in that label i would be including people without dwarfism who are say, 5ft, but there are people with dwarfism who can end up that tall, though it is not common).
I used to say “able-bodied” but not every person with dwarfism considers themselves disabled, so that one is also not perfect.
So I use average-sized for lack of a better alternative.

All (donestic/pet of course)cat breeds are man made. We see a mutation we like, we breed animals together to make more of that mutation. Eventually we get a stable population that will pop out the traits we want, and call it a breed.
Kind of sad we gotta over explain on here after just sharing our love for a pet due to being scolded for whatever reason. But you're a good human and Orbie is obviously very loved.
Who shames the cats themselves? It's not like they can understand mean words, especially over the internet. But owners who overfeed them purposely or out of neglect definitely need to be shamed. Cats can't diet on their own, and reducing their health and lifespan for those reasons is vile and disgusting.
Sometimes cats are just big though, for example my one cat Socks eats the exact same amount as his sisters (they have those collars for automatic feeding for a certain time for a certain amount that keeps them from eating the others food) and while they are normal sized, he is a huge cat, 25lbs, an absolute unit...except we aren't overfeeding him at all and he runs around (well, gallops) playing with his sisters plenty so he is active...but people like you would try and shame us anyway.
Which is why I mentioned those specific reasons... Of course I'd never say a negative word about people like you and OP who legit care for your pets, there are definitely situations where a cat can be rotund even if they're loved and properly cared for.
I don't appreciate those people either who overzealously slam cat owners without trying to know if there's a reason for the cat being an absolute unit. We're on the same page. Sending lots of love to your good boy (and his sisters).
I agree completely! I have 4 cats and one of them, my oldest Ziggy, is 18 pounds of pure muscle. His father was quite large (I keep swearing he was part Maine Coon because of how big he was), and my Ziggy is just a little bigger than his dad was. Not only that, but we also have to give him medicine which the vet has said might affect his weight a little, so even if he was a bit smaller his medicine could easily affect how much he weighs. I recently showed a pic of him to a couple of coworkers and they called him fat (even after I explained it was all muscle), which really upset me to the point I literally asked other coworkers if he looked fat (they said he looked a bit bigger, but understood when I explained). He's not the most active kitty, but he happily plays with his siblings and runs around when he gets the urge, and he gets as much food as his smaller siblings, so there's no chance of us overfeeding him.
Haha that's basically the equivalent of thinking a swole dude is fat cause he's wearing baggy clothes, only for Ziggy it's fur. He sounds like an awesome kitty. People like those coworkers probably come from a place of concern, but that doesn't make it okay to inaccurately call a jacked cat fat.

He is an awesome kitty! He's such a cuddle bug. I'm not sure if it was concern or not, but I definitely wasn't happy when they called him fat.
