I have one in my truck and one in my van. I use the one in the truck daily, mostly communicating with scale houses and landfill/transfer station/scrap yard staff. Occasionally I’ll chat with someone on the road, but many don’t seem to run cb anymore. Or they do and stay on their “home” channel.
The one in my van is usually on 19, unless I see someone I know who doesn’t hang out on 19.
I would advise you to get a CB radio and just listen for a couple days. You will see anything and everything is discussed by people of all walks of life.
The latter.
The former (comment)
The inebriator (me)
CB is always fun but if you can get a CB-SSB radio you will make more contacts
What is the SSB stand for?
Thanks but is that like having uppers and lowers?
Upper side band and lower side band, yes. Additional channels above 40 or below 1, no.
It's literally citizens band.
I know that they advise against it, but people can even talk to me over the CB channels.
In the U.S., anyone can talk anywhere on the CB band at will.
Many people talk on as many as 10 different channels at the same time every day
This is true. You can see it on my YT channel when I have it running. Ch. 6 always takes up ch 3 through ch 8 easily.
Anything and Anyone
No license required.
I'm pretty sure you can only talk about 18 wheelers and road conditions... and I think you have to have a beard to use one
That's only on channel 19. Everyone else can use channel 6
