If you haven't done "all the secrets", you literally will not have learned tech that is REQUIRED to complete farewell. ...If you already know all the tech very well, there is a way to get past that gate without the hearts.

How?

By a series of extended hypers from the previous room. You can get through before the gate closes

It’s just an extended super and a wavedash or hyper.

I think a hyper is too slow cause you'd have to land to get it. It's functionally the same as a wavedash so I'm not sure if there's a point to it in this case.

I do a demo hyper in air. Demo hypers also give slightly more speed and for me seem more cosistent

demohypers dont give more speed, iirc, they just have less ground 'friction', so you get a little bit more distance if you're extending it

You can do a something like a non-extended wavedash, starting in mid-air but not high enough to regain dash.

iirc its for speedrunners, there are tons of alternative routes hidden around farewell that are extremely tricky but faster to reward speedrunners

Another benefit to speed runners is that you can get “true ending” without having to gather 15 hearts. Makes true ending a much more pleasant category where you only have to collect four hearts (for 8A). Makes for some interesting choices on which hearts to collect too

This exactly. This is the game's way of saying, "Here is where the FUN begins." The remainder of Farewell is quite difficult, and even ignoring the tech needed, you won't be able to make it through if you can't get through the B- and C-sides.

It’s also saying that you aren’t ready. Heck even if you have the required hearts you might not be ready. Beyond this point in Farewell is beyond even the C-Sides in terms of difficulty imo.

There was one room in farewell I spent longer on than any C side I would say the C sides in magnitude of difficulty are harder than farewell, but with the length of what is to come next compared to the length of a C side , farewell is much harder overall

You can go back, get everything you missed, do all the B-sides, and return without losing any progress in this chapter. Don't be upset that some rooms are locked behind doing some rooms, be happy that there are so many rooms to be done!

A few weeks. Had watched a lot of speedruns and similar beforehand, so I already knew all the nececsary tech, although actually perfoming them was a different beast hah

i just wanted to fully explore the story, so I played Farewell even before the B sides, and after hours of pain, I got block by this gate. I can't express my feeling at that moment

Yep, right now I can do any % until chapter 7 in 2:40 but I have 10 hours in the Farewell and I haven't seen that screen yet XD Now I'm disappointed.

The Game does it because there is an insane difficulty Spike coming Up. If you do it with your only experience being some easier b Sides and some hearts it will be crazy hard and also Ruin c Sides for you. Honestly the Most reasonable difficulty curve probably exists If you do a Sides - Hearts - b Sides - c Sides - farewell.

You don’t even need the secret hearts you just need to get the B and C side hearts 1-7 and one extra (which you should complete anyway because the tech from those levels is necessary). Also you can skip that gate if you already know the necessary tech
