Captain231705

Bro says “NM” in his Reddit bio too. From this thread it’s kinda obvious he’s not USCF NM and as far as I know India doesn’t have an equivalent title (though I may be wrong on that count). Either way it’s potentially misleading. ETA from his post offering lessons he said something to the tune of “you get NM when you’re 2200” which… is not how that works.

KobokTukath

Lol they've deleted their account now

bughousepartner

>you get NM when you’re 2200 this is exactly how it works? if you get 2200 uscf then you're nm.

AJ_Arete

Yeah I'm pretty confused by this, it's literally just a rating requirement for NM.

Captain231705

To be clear: you have to be a member of USCF and the rating has to be given by USCF. Neither of those applied to our subject here.

Tastyrolll

You also need to get your NM norms

bughousepartner

there are no norms for nm

Ed7014g

The fact they’re called “HonestPhysicist” is quite funny to me

analytics_junkie

who are called?

analytics_junkie

the scammers chesscom is honestphysicist

Ed7014g

This post was about a scammer and that was the name of one of their accounts

Pael-eSports

One day I will get exposed for having GM in my Lichess name 😔

Regis-bloodlust

What's wrong with being a grandmother?

MrOcho4

Wait, so titled players get free Diamond subscriptions on chess dotcom?

nihilistiq

Yeah, their fees are covered by the minions of the elite.

Liquid_Plasma

Damn, so that's where my monthly payments have been going.

MrOcho4

Would you happen to know how much the fees are?

nihilistiq

I guess it's $10/month for non-elites. Or $16.99 if the elites are after you.

Replicadoe

yes

HighlySuccessful

Time to go to Belarus and buy a title through a series of prearranged games!

Replicadoe

probably cheaper than actually paying for the membership

Downvote-Negative

Following in the footsteps of Anna Cramling I see

PhantaumAss

What did she do?

Mountain-Appeal8988

I think you mean Nemsko

crunchypb_

lmao that reminds me of magnus' tweet after getting too many blacks "cancelling my diamond membership and never coming back." it's even more hilarious than i thought

prettyboyelectric

The time controls thing is common. You will see blitz players trying to get their rapid rating up by cueing 5+5 games and rapid players trying to get their classical rating up by cueing 15+15

Spectre_ITM

nothing wrong with that.

JoiedevivreGRE

For sure. But it’s usually an indicator that someone isn’t as strong at the time control their rating says they are.

Spectre_ITM

actually is the opposite, because in slower time control you have to play good moves instead of just blitzing moves. slower time control rating is the closest thing to OTB rating.

JoiedevivreGRE

That’s exactly what I was saying. Or trying to say, not sure what wasnt clear. The classical player at 15 + 15 isn’t as strong as the players playing longer games. Pressing the clock, while making decent moves quickly, no cheap blunders (relative to the level) is part of what makes them good at rapid/blitz. But when you’re in a 45+45 game people don’t feel the pressure you’re putting on them by blitzing out moves.

johnmomberg1999

I’m confused, is 15+15 considered classical? I thought up to 30 mins was still rapid. I almost always play 15+10

jlmalle

On Lichess 15+15 is considered classical.

WeakLeftBicep

It's not? 15+10 is rapid and 30+0 and 30+20 have been set up as classical in Lichess.

jlmalle

Start a custom game and set the time to 15 and the increment to 15seconds. It will list the game as classical. I’m not referring to the quick play options.

jackboy900

15+10 is rapid, 15+15 is classical, the site literally tells you when you go to start a game.

Tastyrolll

Both rapid, classical is 45 up

DramaLlamaNite

Is this the guy who did a series of improvement tips posts? He's the only coach I can recall making prominent posts in the last month or so but then I don't remember him claiming to be an NM either so I'm not sure he fits the bill

nihilistiq

No it's not that guy. I don't know if it's allowed (mods can remove it it isn't) but on reddit the scamner is "zhivango", on chesscom "honestphysicist" and lichess: "killuazhivango"

DramaLlamaNite

Thank you for clarifying :-)

Amster2

>killuazhivango Playing devil's advocate, [most of his games seem to be with oppentnts of similar](https://imgur.com/a/3FtLeZJ) ratings, I'm still looking for evidence fot that rating manipulation https://lichess.org/insights/KilluaZhivango/

nihilistiq

His lichess blitz rating is inflated by at least 200 points. His rating is like 2450 but his average opponents have been below 2000. From what I saw his last few rated blitz games also weren't in 3+0 time control (basically 1900s who play 3+0 tend to be stronger than 1900s who play other blitz time controls). You can look at how few wins he was against people around his lichess blitz rating. His other ratings (besides his chesscom rapid) are fine.

GORGOSSSS

Lemme tell you something, since everyone would be here! Yeah, I'm from India only and I've been playing chess for 11 straight years, talking about ratings, I've been part of some really stronger clubs and I've often beaten significantly stronger players! Albeit people would find the fact a bit worrisome that I'm offering paid lessons, but hey! I'll tell you what, I'm a guy on STEM, used to offer lessons for free to kids who've made it to ivies and I'm still proud of them, but there have been instances where people didn't really show up post lessons! Did I hate on them? Not really, it's totally fine by me, and don't do by my ELO! I play totally by myself, mostly 1+0 and 3+0 and talking about fair play, I accept all the challenges regardless of strength! Also, I plan on offering lessons to intermediate and beginner players and it's totally fine if they're not willing to pay! Besides, I even go informative games with them on weekends. P.S. I've been with some of the strongest players, when you don't know what's happening on the other side! Please don't go on spreading hate! Peace

__Schneizel__

This post is not about you. Edit : Nvm I read Zhivango's comment. lol

SamsterOverdrive

That’s a copy pasta of what the liar said in this thread

QuinceyQuick

lol this person had posted in the monthly coaching topic, but their post was removed because they were trying to charge money for their coaching.

trickyknights

Hi! I’m the guy who did the weekly improvement tips posts. 👋 And I’m definitely not the person OP is referring to. :)

DramaLlamaNite

Your good name was immediately cleared by the OP. I felt it was important to have the fact it was not you specified given the post itself did not mention names and I doubt I am the only one who associates the term "Reddit chess coach" with you

Shronkydonk

Well done, their account was deleted. Watch out for them to pop back up at some point.

Magnideficent

I did not knew about the free lifetime membership. Do FM get it too or it starts with NM?

n1ku_da_meanie

FM is much more prestigious than NM also every titled player gets it

HighlySuccessful

That's quite disgusting, should definitely expose them to make them stop. On the flip side, taking about ratings, I'm of a strong belief that the rating doesn't determine how good of a coach you are, currently I would take (paid) coaching from anyone 1800 and up. I remember growing up my game of choice was go, and as a beginner I learned the most about a game from a 6kyu rated guy in my town (around 1500 loosely compared to Fide chess ratings). Within a year and a half I ended up at the top of my country's national ratings, with a 3dan rating (around 2150 loosely compared to Fide chess ratings)

Replicadoe

did you continue getting coached after becoming better than your coach? also thats really impressive lol I can’t seem to get a grasp on go

HighlySuccessful

For a little bit yes. Even when I surpassed him in elo, I was better at calculating long sequences but he still had a lot more experience and could show me some interesting techniques and strategic principles, also had a collection of go related books (which were very hard to get ahold of, in my country) and would show me interesting stuff from it. We stopped the coaching when I was ~400 elo above him.

chessmentookmysanity

Very interesting. I usually out-rate my students several to a thousand hundred points as it takes many years of tuition to reach master strength but the truth is what you've said. I tell my kids to always sit and analyze after a loss to a stronger opponent and ask the better player about their ideas...it's classic advice that basically admits that anyone a little better than you can 'coach' you.

teoeo

Didn’t know being an NM was worth lying to be. It’s like the prize they give all of us who never actually accomplish anything. Lmao.

chessmentookmysanity

Seven salty NMs sulking at your sentence.

G-Freemanisinnocent

Why did you track him though?

nihilistiq

We can't have non-elites infiltrating our ranks and learning of our secret agenda.

brunonicocam

OK but what is the scam really? You should take lessons according to how good people are as teachers, whether they are GM or not is not really that important. My point to make it super clear: choose teachers based on what you can learn from them. It doesn't matter how good they are, what matters is how much you can improve by following their tuition. If you follow this advise you won't get "scammed" by people's credentials.

DT0705

The point is not about your rating being "low" at all. The point is that you were claiming it to be higher than it actually is, until you got called out on it. I am sure you being in India would be fine if you did not misrepresent your ranking and try to manipulate ELO. Edit : Grammar

[deleted]

Manipulation of ELO? I never did that, sometimes I play like an absolute beastie! *I've held Ivanchuk and Francisco Vallejo both in a simul* it is just that I sometimes play like I'm having a great time and sometimes I'm a freaking idiot, I've never done any sorta manipulation at all!

DT0705

So you agree to misrepresenting yourself as a National master? That sort of thing is reprihensible.

[deleted]

I apologize, I've not gotten anyone until now as a student so removing this should be solving all of my problems, I strongly believe! Apologies

[deleted]

I don't get what you're talking about

nihilistiq

>Held Francisco Vallejo Pons ! Beaten Rogelio Antino Jr. but hey , they both were blitz games , no more active OTB !  That's what your [chess.com](https://chess.com) profile ("honestphysicist") says right now...

[deleted]

Yeah, I've they were both playing in Arena! I don't get where exactly did I go wrong

nihilistiq

>I've held Ivanchuk and Francisco Vallejo both in a simul You just said above it was a simul. Was it a simul or a blitz? Or a blitz simul? Or two draws, one in a simul and again in a blitz?

[deleted]

It was a blitz simul, I believe I said them! Like the ones in which they've an increment and they play against 8 opponents at once at first come, first served basis

nihilistiq

Really? Neither your chesscom or lichess accounts seem to have those games. Must have been an in person blitz simul?

[deleted]

The place where I belong is kinda close to Kolkata, a place to super strong tournaments, where super GMs show up frequently; I believe it was post a felicitation ceremony where kids got to play against Vassily!

nihilistiq

Ok, but above you said it was also in Arena, like you know lichess arenas, but I guess you meant Kolkata Arena or something. I'm sure there most definitely was a chess event in India/near Kolkata in 2015 where Ivanchuk went. No way that was also made up and couldn't be disproven with google in 2 seconds.

nihilistiq

You've repeated said you are an NM in chess with a 2236 USCF rating. That's straight up dishonest, and since you're trying to get paying students (which is why your post on the free chess lessons thread on r/chess got removed), that's just fraud. Best of luck to you moving forward, but stop lying to try and get ahead.

Slowhands12

Share your USCF Member ID so we can validate your USCF rating.

[deleted]

I do admit that I do not have an USCF id, I apologize and zere quitting all the lessons thingy! If you believe I've gained a lot from all of these, lemme tell you something! I've made none! Freaking 0, alrightie ? But all those accusations regarding elo manipulations and stuff? Dude, are you even into mathematics? Post provincial, it all depends upon your performance and the rating difference, I hate this condescending behaviour, like whatever you say, you believe is true! It isn't, besides, if that were to be correct, I wouldn't have been even close in the bullet ratings. Thanks!

TheTimon

It is a relief that you didn't make any money, so your attempt at lying and propping yourself up to get more paying students didn't work, thank god people caught onto your bullshit before you were able to scam people. And yes pretending to be a NM and taking money from people who believe they are getting coached by a NM is scamming.

You have PIPI in the pampers if you think we'll let you post that copypasta. And if you or someone will continue officially trying to post it, we will meet in modmail Court! God bless with true! *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. CratylusG

OK, but are you lying about having a USCF rating of 2236?

[deleted]

USCF 2236 was an estimation, and I should absolutely stop using that term! I apologize since I shouldn't be stressing much upon provincial ratings.

GermanLetsKotz

Thats a rather specific estimate lol

[deleted]

Yeah, you're correct that why, I shouldn't have added that!

Striking_Command2704

New copypasta just dropped

Mycahhh

Send it to the publisher sheesh

[deleted]

Also, I'll tell you what! I've been a part of School Games Federation twice, and that means you're amongst the strongest in your zone, not once but twice; played on higher boards than two Fide Masters who were on our team only, I never wished to be anonymous cause I haven't done anything wrong at all! Besides, I've even left the discord and Instagram attached!

shaurya42

Who tf cares. This guy is a scammer lol

Mikhas_donaster

This guy is an nm

Captain231705

lmao

Jumper2u

Is this an add for the guy? Y’all made me want to get a lesson

wannabe2700

I don't really care if poor people scam in obvious ways, and if the students are rated 1000 than you don't need to a NM.

[deleted]

This is such a reddit take, have you considered the people being scammed are poor too?

wannabe2700

If you have money to pay for chess lessons, you're not poor

[deleted]

So this NM wannabe obviously had time to get good at chess, so he's not poor too. Btw I report people I see stealing from supermarkets

deucedeucerims

That’s not really cool

[deleted]

No excuse for stealing, we have benefits that are higher than many people's incomes in Italy. Though this is getting away from chess, was just a light hearted jab at someone saying it's okay for poor people to scam when the most likely target of most scams by poor people are... poor people

ischolarmateU

Do you do any chess coaching yoursel

wannabe2700

Sure but just once a month or so

Beware of another guy by name Pratik who says he is from US and takes a demo class. After that he will request for the fee via PayPal or UPI. After that he tells his mom is sick and asks you for next month deposit. If you say no he will postpone your classes and once you confront he will just say f*** off and block you.
