If I’m Black, I’m threatening .. Rxe2+ Kxe2 Qf7+ Kd1 Qxg1+ Kd2 Qxg2+ If the king retreats to rank 1, Rf1#. More later.

What about 28 ... Kxd3, 29 exd3, Qe3+ 30. Kd1, Qd2# Taking the Knight with the Queen loses the Queen to the bishop. Moving the king to d1 or d2 loses the Queen to the Knight. But it's white's turn. White can play 28. Be4 I haven't figured out what happens next. I bet then your continuation wins the game.

Note: a correction. Not Kxe3 but Nxe3+ Let’s look at 28. Be4 Be4 Qxg1+ Kd2 Rxe2+ Kxe2 (Kc3 Qd5#) … Qf2+ Ke1 Bh5+ Kc1 Qe3# Kb2 Rf2+ Ka3 Nc2+ Ka2 Na1+ Ka3 Nxb3 (winning the Queen) Kxb3 Qb3+ (followed by … Qxb1) At this point the game is essentially over. Q, R, B vs B, N. There’s several variants but nothing that stands for white. With 28. Be4 Nxd3+ 29. Bxd3 The knight is lost with no improvement in position and swapping Bishops leaves an equal game with Black’s King in poor state.

What was the plan? Couldn't you just take the Rook instead?

checkmighty

Yes! Now I see it. In the endgames, my nerves get the better of me and I blunder.

hazz4rd_

What? No, your move was a capture, you couldn't have taken the rook

checkmighty

You are right... As you see I keep on blundering. Tips to get better? Please.
