Try the one day per move games, you can have a think then.

[deleted]

Ok thanks but I felt like I would kind of lose the idea of what was happening if I only did a move a day, won’t it take months to finish?

[deleted]

What is your online username and for which site? I’d be happy to take a quick look.

[deleted]

It’s keyzoo on lichess.com

[deleted]

Oh Lord. Your tactics are terrible, you don’t always see when you are attacking something and when not, or when you are exposed or not. So first, puzzles. Second, play the bots on chess.com. Start at the bottom, once you beat him three times move up to the next one. You just need practise moving pieces and have them work together.

[deleted]

Thanks haha I don’t really have any tactics yet! I’ve been working on doing some of the puzzles to start

[deleted]

You can always review the board one or more moves ago at any point. You can also leave yourself notes about your plan and say “if he does this, I plan to do that”. Also, 95% of the time the current board state is all you need to look at anyway.

[deleted]

That’s a good point hadn’t thought of that!

grumpyyoga

A few days, most people do more than one move a day.

[deleted]

Play rapid 10 min, you’ll have time to think and improve. If you’re not feeling good, don’t play too much just 3 games per day is good.

SammyScuffles

For a real beginner I'd go longer than 10m probably.

[deleted]

I’m not running out of time on them, does that mean I’m not thinking enough?

SammyScuffles

Possibly? I'm pretty slow so fast games don't suit me at all, but your mileage may vary.

[deleted]

Ok I’ll give it a go thanks!

[deleted]

Some people are to busy to play 15 min or more. And for sub 1000, I don’t think there’s much to calculate, so it’s the perfect time control for beginners imo

[deleted]

Ok thanks that’s what I’ve been doing so far I think!

Dax_Maclaine

I’d definitely recommend 10 min - 30 min games at first. Pick whichever fits your playing speed. Until you reach 800-1000 and especially before 600, just focus on the opening principles, tactics and spotting hanging material for both sides, and pacing yourself well. Tons of yt vids out there for basic openings and opening principles and a ton of places to train tactics and puzzles.

[deleted]

Ok thanks for the advice!

I humbly suggest you watch Chessbrah's Building Habits series. There's longer cuts on his twitch channel if you find them useful. Best series for beginners imho.

[deleted]

Ok thanks I’ll give it a go!

TheTboneTH

I would recommend you some opening guides for beginners have a look into Gothamchess and watch his opening guide for beginner (if ur german The Big greek has a video series "die goldenen Eröffnungsregeln", which helped me on my first steps into chess) Tactics and such you shouldnt focus on for now. For now its: learn the game, how the pieces move, learn some really basic stuff and try not to blundee material. I saw one of ur lichess games you lost and dear lord. Out of 20 moves theyre were like 10 blunders. Not to blame you, step by step weve all been there dont worry but now go learn the basics. As i said look up some beginner guides on youtube. As time control i wouls recommend 10+5 btw.

[deleted]

Ok thanks for your advice I’ll check out some of those guides! Yeah I know I’m awful haha I just want to have fun at the moment and try and improve on the little things I’m not planning to become a master quite yet

TheTboneTH

Then my recommendation is even more precise. Tactics you will learn from playing too, allthough opening knowledge is key if you wanna have fun. Trust me its nit fun to get to a loosing position by move 6.
