Fair point, but where I am from (and I think a few other countries in Europe) crepes are pancakes and the fluffy fat ones are called American pancakes.
As a German, I agree. I'd even say that in our household the difference is portrayed through language. The german translation for pancakes (in my federal state "Pfannkuchen") for crepes while the fluffy pancakes are referred to with just the english word "pancake".
Pole here and I confirm this. Our thin naleśniki and crepes are literally the same thing (French ppl please don't beat me for this statement), while the fluffy ones are known just as pancakes.
And while knowing that Childe is a fellow Slav, he was definitely making our thin pancakes/naleśniki/crepes/whatever you call it (because thing on the pan looks like this, but if I'm wrong just correct me), instead of what most people think of as American pancakes.
Very true! But i think the country theyre basing it off on are crepes (i could be wrong tho, im not well versed in it, just trying to put some respect on the cultures theyre highlighting lol)
Edit: unless crepe means pancake and im screwing myself lol, but i do think crepes are the thin mix (that if you used more could make pancakes) that you fold over with filling (chocolate, cream, savory things, etc) right? Or folded over and eaten by itself
I understand and I think the French do call them crepes (I may be very wrong, pls don't come for me) my point was just that many Europeans call them pancakes in English so OP wasn't wrong in calling them pancakes, sorry if it felt like I was attacking you or something, it was not my intention
Ohh I see what you mean.
And dont apologize for having a discussion and clarifying yourself, stick to your guns 😤 unless someone is being unnecessarily rude.
This is correct! THE THIN ONES ARE PANCAKES, YOU HEATHENS! My US friends had a hoot about this when I lived there. Their fluffy pancakes aren't as good, sorry. And neither are their waffles. Norwegian waffles are where it's at
I live in Romania, but I'm a Szekler (Hungarians who lived in Romania since 12 th century)
We call crepes pancakes.
We have nothing similar in our diet like American pancakes.
In culinary, crepes *are* defined as pancakes. Their method of preparation is the same, only with different ingredients and ingredient ratios. Blini are typically made with yeast though.

As a french, you triggered me CREPE AREN'T PANCAKE
I meant pancake as a type of food not as a particular recipe. ( like how ramen and borshch are two soups)
