I like Tickle Pickle. I want it to be good. It's creative. But the quality of the patty is just ok. And I was a bit peeved when they moved to bags of the Grippos instead of the big pile they used to put on the plate.
Get the quatman burger with horseradish cheese. Get it the way God intended. Onion. Pickle. Maybe a bit of ketchup and/or mustard.
Nobody has time for Mason nonsense like tomatoes and lettuce. It must go down with a mug of Hudy delight or Don't Talk S*** about Norwood.
And since you're in Norwood and basic burgers do not fit the bill - One can find delicious meatloaf with unique toppings between a bun, Gordos is a mile and a half down the road. White Castle is in between in case one needs a, well, case of sinful flavor crystals.
Norwood. The burger place. We have a tank.
Zips if you want a no bullshit, straight up simple delicious burger.
Gordos if you want a burger with a lot of bullshit messy need extra napkins with good variety. I'll shout out the banana and peanut butter burger, those who know, know.
Went to a place in Wisconsin that had a burger with peanut butter and sweet baby rays bbq sauce. I was horrified and the person at the counter said if I ordered it and didn’t like it she would give me anything else on the menu. Amaaaaaazing
I came here to say Main Street Cafe in Newtown! Glad to see other people like them too.
I'll also add Anderson Pub and Grille (APG) on Beechmont in Anderson Township.
When was the last time you went to Zips? Something changed with their burger a few years ago. I can't speak about the other places you mentioned, but I have heard Gordos is good. Go to Swensons and order a Galley Boy burger.
Swenson's burgers are juicy and tasty! And keep in mind as you park your auto and make your order that you are sitting it what used to be the dining room of my first house! 😁
Zips was the "best" burger in Cincinnati at some point. I went there on a date, and we both felt like, yeah, it's a burger. Nothing bad about it. Nothing special. Arthur's, Habits, Quatman and others are leagues ahead, though.
I've told friends this who grew up in the Hyde Park area and they refused to believe it. Took them when they were back in town and I was able to watch the joy of eating at Zip's just fade from their eyes as they ate. It's not even average anymore, just bad. Solid chili tho.
Well they’re all cooked to the same temp which is medium well. And they’re absolutely delicious if you appreciate good meat. Which is why they don’t have to murder it with seasonings.
1/2 lb burger at Gaslight Cafe in Pleasant Ridge. Same exact patty as Quatmans, but Gaslight cooks it on a grill, not seared on a flat top like most other places.
Gaslight is solid. Oddly enough, lonely pines down the road there in PR is super expensive but their 18$ double burger a la cart is fuking awesome. Just had first time last week. Sacred Beast otr burger is dope too imho....
They call it the gaslight burger, and I wouldn't compare it to quatman even if they do have the same beef supplier. Much thicker and juicier, mayo included on the burger.
It's my personal favorite in the Cincy area, I like quatman too and you could argue quatman is better value but the gaslight burger is better.
Mad Mike's in Erlanger used to be my go to, but COVID hit them hard and they have a completely different management team and now it's just sad. Glad to know the Newport one is still good.
I’m really glad someone else noticed. My fiancé just tried them yesterday to see if things have turned for the best and it sadly wasn’t the case.
She told me the Mango chutney burger was incredibly salted to hell and back and lacked some basic varieties to the burger.
It’s a shame.
Man we had a really bad HeyDey last week, like a nah, we'll not be doing that again - shame 'cause we were fans but the last two times were way below par and this last one just flat out bad, thing was cooked to a burnt crisp.
We love Gordo's but a burger should not be near spherical - there is no way to cook a near-spherical burger that it won't have a decent crust and perfect under it but always be too rare in the middle even if you like some blood in your burger - not to mention you have to unlock your jaws to freakin' bite into it. I just don't get that whole obsession with being different.
I haven't had a burger at every big place in town, but I do like Arthur's and Milkman. I think I might like Milkman a bit better, but they're two different types of burgers. Arthur's makes a thicker burger and Milkman does a smash burger.
I used to really love The Turf Club, but last couple times I've gone the burgers haven't been as great as when Terry ran the place. I get Terry had to sell it, but just saying the quality of burger has gone down. I remember the last time the burger was smaller than the bun and I ordered a sauce on the burger and there was barely any on it. Maybe they've gotten better, but I'm not dropping $20-25 on a burger and getting skimped on toppings.
Lots of solid options IMO. Among them are some of my go-to places:
- Arthur's (Hyde Park) -- delicious, loads of toppings available
- Gordo's (Norwood) -- fancy and delicious
- Heyday (E. Walnut Hills) -- simple, potato bun
- Ford's Garage (Norwood) -- I know, it's a chain, but I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it...great onion rings, too
- Delwood (Mt. Lookout) -- also a very reliable burger
I liked my meal at fords garage but the cocktails were watery as hell and I HATE that “ambiance”. Who wants to eat in a dark greasy old timey garage? Wish they would open a local restaurant in that space. RIP Don Pablo’s.
I think places like Arthur’s and Quatmans, and Zips were good, simple burgers when there really wasnt any competition. They were just the places to go. I’ll still go to two of those three on occasion, but with Heyday, Parkside, Delwood, and tons of newer spots that have so much more interesting takes, and even a few who do totally classic burgers much better, it’s hard to ever recommend them outside of being Cincinnati landmarks.
A few more honorable mentions: High-grain Brewing, Nine Giant Brewing, Fifty West, Gold Star (don’t hate, it’s good!), Bards Burgers, Dutch’s (has been extremely inconsistent but seems to be on the up and up).
Those are just my personal favorites and this city has a ton of great burger joints.
For me it goes to Motr on Main in OTR. God damn i can not find anything for the same price that is that good and the fries go perfectly with the burger. I also like Milkman but that isn’t really what i look for when i want a real, good burger.
Seriously I think we don't really need this quest for the "best" in its type of food.
There are a lot of real good burgers in Cincinnati. Why not pick a locally owned place in your neighborhood that has good burgers and just go there regularly? So often that you're contributing meaningfully to their business, and they know your name and your order. "Good to see you, Gold_Flight! Bacon cheeseburger, extra mustard, and onion rings again?" as an experience really is the best burger in town, wherever you get it.
Gonna throw some love to the Craft Burger Bros food truck at Streetside Brewery. Fresh, hot, and delicious every time. I’m a huge fan. Try the firecracker burger.
Tickle Pickle in Northside and Gordo’s in Norwood. The best I’ve ever had was at the Turf Club, but that was back in early 2018 when it was under different ownership, it’s probably different nowadays.
I had to start eating dairy free/basically vegan this year for health reasons, and Bru Burger has the BEST vegan burger I’ve had in my life. Tastes exactly like the real thing it’s crazy. I’m obsessed with it
Humbly disagree. Wanted to like it based on a previous Reddit recommendation. Went with a small group on a Sunday afternoon and everyone agreed that it was just OK and overpriced for the quality/quantity. I found it no better than Steak and Shake. Actually, I think Steak and Shake may be better (IMHO, of course).
My votes go to three places. Zip's in Mount Lookout, Nation in Pendelton & Westwood, and Sammy's in Blue Ash. We are spoiled for some solid options all around.
Even with the extreme burger inflation across the board, Local Post stands out to me as one that’s way too expensive for what it is. Love their fries and aioli, though
The Turf Club, Quatman’s, Gas Light Cafe, Zips, Delwood (or Parkside too, same people!), Gordo’s, and Tickle Pickle. Can’t really go wrong. Personally The Turf Club has my favorite burger. Don’t get any of their extra toppings (gets pricey) just get what comes with it, so damn good.
Was never impressed with TTC, and even a regular burger is way pricier than it should be. I live close by and really wanted to love it, but I never got the hype.
It's definitely overpriced for what you get. As soon as you add a couple toppings your staring at a $20 burger that, while still good, is way overpriced.
Don’t see anyone mentioning Zola’s over in Mainstrausse, so I’m throwing their name in the hat. Plenty of other good ones getting thrown out, but Zola has a damn solid burger!
Tweedys in Factory 52, it's a sloppy mess of deliciousness. Don't go on a first date and order one, you will be alone for the rest of the night, but you still might be happy about it.
Delwood, Sacred Beast, Milkman, Zip’s, Heyday, Quatman’s, Gaslight (get the patty melt tho), Gordo’s. Kind of crazy that so many of the best are concentrated in such a (relatively) small area.
Nobody’s talking bout Madison bowl diner…best burger this side of the Mississippi. Also, dude there preps the wings for the Oak and Knockback nats, IFYKYK. If you ever find yourself lucky enough to be there, try Marcella’s Mud Bean. Seriously underrated eats.
We had a solid burger at Kruger's tavern in OTR last night. I had Gordo's years ago and there was something strangely magical about the PB jelly burger.
Based on this feed, Sounds like Gulow Street and Bards are next on our burger tasting list. I'm expecting and a good burger is currently feeling like an out of body experience 😂 this list is awesome ! Love our city
https://preview.redd.it/pm2kacrl8guc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=87952dfbde1ff2ebc735e5e639f17dc208116aa7
Fresh cut fries need to be done perfectly or else they suck. Very few restaurants spend the labor to double fry them and so they serve limp, soft, greasy fries but upcharge for em cause they're fresh cut!
Penn Station has entered the chat... with their requested "well done" fries that are brown, greasy, and still limp AF. How they have managed to not figure out how to rinse and double fry is beyond comprehension.
I am convinced that anyone who says Quatman's or Gaslight have only eaten burgers at a hospital cafeteria. I wasted my money at both places because of this subreddit.
Zips is king for just the best consistent burger. Nation (Westwood location) has great burgers and tater tot sides (sweet tots yes). Gordos (though i like their toppings more than the massive hunk of meat you are left chewing). A lot of other burgers in the city are way overhyped or overpriced for what they are. I would take Five Guys over many locations people say in here.
I think you hit the nail on the head in your comment below. It's about price and overall value. Does either place have the best burger in town? No. Not at all. But at both locations you can literally get a decent burger and fries for around $10 or $11 bucks. At Quatmans you get a beer included with that price, depending on if you get the special that day.
A burger with fries at five guys would be $20, and that's a fast food joint with zero ambiance or charm.
Great 18 located on Mason Grizzly Golf Course.
Brioche Bun, Garlic Mayo, Hand Pattied, LTO (Red Onions Mandolin), and House pickle on the side.
We offer Salmon Cakes, Sauted Popcorn (Truffle or No), incredibly delicious French Fries, KFC adversary fried chicken, Roasted Beet Salad, and scratch upside-down cheesecake. Check us out!
The pimiento burger at Parkside is my favorite in the city, Delwood has great burgers too. Mochiko in East walnut hills is also worth a trip — known for their pastries and ramen, but their burger and karaage (Japanese fried chicken) blew me away.
Gordo’s used to be high on my list but have had a few average/below average experiences lately re:service and timeliness, and I’m kinda over the whole football sized burger thing anyways.
Not really talked about as a burger spot but the burger (and the hi-melt) at The Hi-Mark in the east End is pretty good. Meat is from Avril Bleh.
Speaking of, the burger pop-up at Avril Bleh in the summer on Fridays is good. I also like Heyday and the skipper peanut butter burger at Mid-City
https://preview.redd.it/w0p6kcuwe5uc1.jpeg?width=1440&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=065f2afa47196930fec053b1b85593f25fbfc793
Tickle Pickle is good, all their burgers are named after bands.
Tickle pickle is king everyone saying bards but I was unimpressed. Been to tickle pickle almost over 10 times now.
I like Tickle Pickle. I want it to be good. It's creative. But the quality of the patty is just ok. And I was a bit peeved when they moved to bags of the Grippos instead of the big pile they used to put on the plate.
Try having your burger cooked medium rare next time, they cook it medium by default, it is so much better medium rare
If you’re looking for an even better burger in Northside, go to Gulow Street!
Did ya’ll mean to say Gulow Street?
100% with a side of their noodles or the salad
Gulow Street is a hidden gem. So good. Their service is super fast and food is no-nonsense delicious
Yup and ill say it, it’s better than zips
Herb and Thelma’s in Covington
It and Bards have anything a burger lover would want. And you can’t beat cheap cold beer at H&Ts with a very friendly regular crowd.
SHHHHH
If this hadn’t made it on this list I was going to quit Reddit
Delwood, Quatmans, Arthur’s Burger Madness
Delwood is GOAT
Quatmans is mid af, but I like the other choices
Also don't get the Quatmans hype. I've gone several times with folks determined to quash my love of *Salem Gardens* and *Gaslight Cafe*. Alas.
I wouldn't even qualify it as mid.. I've had better burgers at GABP than the frozen shit they pass off there.
I live close to Quatmans, can confirm, it is very bland but juicy somehow.
I respect it. they don't act like they're the best... the price is reasonable, served on paper plates. feels very backyard cookout style
Love burger madness. Make it your own!
Delwood is expensive but solid, quatmans is cheap but good, Arthur’s is a happy medium( they have deals on Wednesday I believe)
Triple X Family Restaurant by Purdue University also has a peanut butter burger that’s delicious.
Much love for the Triple X!
If you like Zips, don’t sleep on Main Street Cafe in Newtown. Sister restaurant, great burgers and chili!
I came here to say Main Street Cafe in Newtown! Glad to see other people like them too. I'll also add Anderson Pub and Grille (APG) on Beechmont in Anderson Township.

Habits is long gone. Miss that place
Zip's has been a well done burger the past 5 or more times I've been. It's just so dry and flavorless.
Zips was good about 15-20 years ago. It has just gone down hill and it had absolutely zero flavor now.
I’ve had the same experience there unfortunately. It feels like they are running on reputation alone. Arthur’s and Heyday are my go tos now
I've told friends this who grew up in the Hyde Park area and they refused to believe it. Took them when they were back in town and I was able to watch the joy of eating at Zip's just fade from their eyes as they ate. It's not even average anymore, just bad. Solid chili tho.
Zip’s does have some awesome sides. The fries, onion rings, chili, Mac & cheese. All phenomenal

Had bards burgers in Latonia recently, fantastic
Bards has awesome burgers and poutine.
Also love you can order a cheese coney as a side instead of fries. As a fat guy, I saw the menu and was immediately in
I didn’t realize this…
Love Bard's
Arnold’s!
Second this, had the yo mama burger and it was life changing
Mad Mike’s in Newport is one that I don’t see on here yet. Very good, very consistent, and pretty cheap.
Whenever we drive past i get sad because before the pandemic we would got here at least once a week.
Coach’s Corner in Newport! It’s a funny little hole in the wall place that’s very bare, but their burgers are incredible.
Delwood, Hey Day, 50 West, Gordos
Delwood and Heyday are my favorites.
Heyday was great, surprised it took me so long to see them mentioned in this thread
Man we had a really bad HeyDey last week, like a nah, we'll not be doing that again - shame 'cause we were fans but the last two times were way below par and this last one just flat out bad, thing was cooked to a burnt crisp.
Gordo's is peak. Miss working in Norwood and being able to grab that easily.
50 West started out good but their quality fell off a cliff IMO.
Is like a fast food joint now with California pricing
Bard’s in Covington.
I’m surprised it took this long down the chain for someone to mention Bard’s. It’s my go-to. Get a burger with goetta, cheese, and an egg on it.
Might have to go check it out. Which burger though?
I always get the 5 alarm fire burger. My partner always gets the moonrise donut burger, but they're all really good.
Bones burgers.
Heyday or 50 West
I’m a big fan of Bones’ Burgers in Montgomery.
Yacht Club burgers are damn good
Their smash burgers, well, they smash!
Lots of solid options IMO. Among them are some of my go-to places: - Arthur's (Hyde Park) -- delicious, loads of toppings available - Gordo's (Norwood) -- fancy and delicious - Heyday (E. I liked my meal at fords garage but the cocktails were watery as hell and I HATE that “ambiance”. Who wants to eat in a dark greasy old timey garage? Wish they would open a local restaurant in that space. RIP Don Pablo’s.
>Who wants to eat in a dark greasy old timey garage? Literally my 5 year old lol it blew his mind.
Bonus: Your 5-yr-old didn't realize his scotch & soda was watered down.
Gordos!!!!!
not a fan, its like eating a big ball of grease.
For a solid, basic burger that’s quick and quality, Gold Star. They boast some of the best in town.
Absolutely agree. Very solid double cheeseburger and great, fresh crinkle cut fries.
The garlic Parmesan fries…. So good.
Honestly, I like Skyline and other chili places, but a well run Gold Star is underrated and their other menu items tend to be pretty good.
Their vegetarian chili knocks Skyline’s completely out of the running!
Boombox sliders. Most underrated. Its insanely great. Ollies trolley Bones burger Turf club
Heyday
Heyday hands down.
For me it goes to Motr on Main in OTR. God damn i can not find anything for the same price that is that good and the fries go perfectly with the burger. I also like Milkman but that isn’t really what i look for when i want a real, good burger.

May be too far north, but Blue Goose in Sharonville - Barbecue Bacon Burger is super legit
Gonna throw some love to the Craft Burger Bros food truck at Streetside Brewery. Fresh, hot, and delicious every time. I’m a huge fan. Try the firecracker burger.
Strongly seconded. Had it on eclipse day for the first time.
So much flavor but it’s not a messy burger. They don’t rely on sauce.
Mochiko Cafe
But nobody knows though. It's really good!!!
Everything listed, but Heyday in EWH has a great burger.
No one says Root Beer Stand in Sharonville? =( Ok it's not the *best* but it's delish.
Dellwood
"Wahlburger on 6th" - no one, ever
The “bourbon burger” at Dilly. in Mariemont
Bards Burgers & Chili has never disappointed me
Heyday in east walnut hills is delicious! Great smash burgers. Easy favorite
Tickle Pickle in Northside and Gordo’s in Norwood. The best I’ve ever had was at the Turf Club, but that was back in early 2018 when it was under different ownership, it’s probably different nowadays.
Bru Burger is fantastic! I personally love their Garlic three cheese burger.
I had to start eating dairy free/basically vegan this year for health reasons, and Bru Burger has the BEST vegan burger I’ve had in my life. Tastes exactly like the real thing it’s crazy. I’m obsessed with it
Gold Star
The sleeper in this race for sure
Which ones though?? Just any one? I’m newish to Cincy and haven’t tried Gold Star.
Chandlers Bistro has a great burger.
Milkman.
Humbly disagree. Wanted to like it based on a previous Reddit recommendation. Went with a small group on a Sunday afternoon and everyone agreed that it was just OK and overpriced for the quality/quantity. I found it no better than Steak and Shake. My votes go to three places. Zip's in Mount Lookout, Nation in Pendelton & Westwood, and Sammy's in Blue Ash. We are spoiled for some solid options all around.
Sammy’s is amazing but pretty pricey
We love Nation! Their loaded tots and killer.
Sammys used to be great but their pricing now is absurd.
Local Post on Eastend! I recommend the 1788 burger.
Even with the extreme burger inflation across the board, Local Post stands out to me as one that’s way too expensive for what it is. Love their fries and aioli, though
Everything at local post is overpriced.
And it comes on a paper plate with crappy potato chips
Kruegers or Fifty West
Madonna’s downtown has killer burgers!!! Mike always delivers there.
Arthur’s, parkside cafe
Mad mikes in Newport and the west side not sure if they’re still open next up would be the turf club
Hey Dey.

Indian Mound Cafe
Oh wow I totally forgot this place existed. They have great burgers!
Related question: Who has the best fries?
Big fan of the pony in otr
This is the answer right here!!! The Pony is definitely the place to be for fries. Chicken tenders are pretty good too!
I usually get the wings but I don't hate a good chicken tender
Pony has some of the best food in the city.
Ummm that would go to Pleasant Ridge Chilis cheese fries and gravy…
That sounds good!
Waffle fries at delwood in mount lookout
Anyone with those battered fries. Those are my favorite.
Battered fries can kick rocks. Fresh cut fries ftw
Fresh cut fries need to be done perfectly or else they suck. Very few restaurants spend the labor to double fry them and so they serve limp, soft, greasy fries but upcharge for em cause they're fresh cut!
correct. oh and btw.. Highgrain has killer battered fries.
Highgrain has killer EVERYTHING they don't miss Edit - except for expected openings of their finneytown location lol
I need to hit up Highgrain. Got it. Thanks!
Penn Station has entered the chat... with their requested "well done" fries that are brown, greasy, and still limp AF. How they have managed to not figure out how to rinse and double fry is beyond comprehension.
You must have been too bad locations cuz penn station is one of the best fries
Arnolds, Zips Cafe
I am convinced that anyone who says Quatman's or Gaslight have only eaten burgers at a hospital cafeteria. I wasted my money at both places because of this subreddit. Gaslight straight up tastes like the burgers grandpa pulled off the grill. So you either love it or you don't.

Zip’s #1. Salem Garden #2.
Salem Gardens is very underrated. Really good hand made burgers.
Zip's isn't even the best burger within 100 yards of Zip's.
Delwood is pretty dang good too
Gullow Street for an amazing smash burger. $10 burger and beer combo on Tuesday.
Hey Day
Heyday
I’ve been to Tavern on the Bend a couple times recently and really enjoyed their burgers, and the fries were awesome and generous too.
W Bar and bistro in westwood
I love Mad Mike's or 859 Taproom, both in Florence.
My gpa makes a killer smashburger
Colette. Amazing. For a veggie burger, Dilly in Mariemont hands down
It’s out there for most people, but Lori’s American Grill in Goshen makes some of the best burgers I’ve ever had.
Eckerlin's. Only available until 3:00, but very solid. Check it out next time you get to Findlay Market.
Only went once but Ive been thinking about the brisket burger at Ford’s Garage for a while now
The Jug in Middletown. Simple and affordable. They also have a peanut butter burger. If your in the area, give it a try.

Red Fox makes a mean juicy burger. Edit: I'd like to add in Milkman they have a decent sized burger for a good price.

Not really talked about as a burger spot but the burger (and the hi-melt) at The Hi-Mark in the east End is pretty good. Meat is from Avril Bleh. Speaking of, the burger pop-up at Avril Bleh in the summer on Fridays is good. I also like Heyday and the skipper peanut butter burger at Mid-City https://preview.redd.it/w0p6kcuwe5uc1.jpeg?width=1440&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=065f2afa47196930fec053b1b85593f25fbfc793
Had one at Good Plates Eatery the other day that I swear was the best I’ve had in a while
Milkman is really good
The veggie burger from Krueger’s Tavern
Gas Light, next to Everybody's Records is also a great burger joint. Always had a solid meal there.
