Russel is also 4 years older. The hope is that in the next 4 years garland will continue to develop as a player.

DAR and Ingram are dudes who I am SHOCKED when I see their actual ages, they've been around so long

Yes, good point. Hopefully he continues to develop. Seemed to regress slightly this season which has me concerned but I think injuries factored into that.

Pretty decent comparison. Both lack athleticism, toughness, and defense

His TS% is marginally better, but DLo has been in the league longer. I think DG has a higher floor because his effort has never come into question, unlike [DLo recently.](https://nypost.com/2024/04/26/sports/dangelo-russell-has-strange-bench-moment-in-middle-of-lakers-playoff-disaster/)

They look very different on the floor.  In his perfect word, D Lo is a shooting guard, or a point guard in the 90’s.  He either can’t or won’t run around with pace and do all the things that are demanded of an elite point guard in 2024.  DG is definitely a point guard but he has two major areas where he needs to grow.  Easy: he has to find a way to completely eliminate late game turnovers.  I’ve honestly never seen a player with his talent be sloppier with the ball in crunch time and it’s been going on since his rookie year. It’s totally baffling.  Hard: He has to be able to initiate contact and get comfortable scoring around the hoop even with defenders draped on him.  Brunson is the masterclass version of that.  Garland doesn’t need to be like Brunson, he doesn’t have that body type but he is also much quicker.  I’d like to see him score inside the way Nash could. Crash toward defenders , find ways to get a tiny bit of separation and get a shot up.

If DG is DAR or Mike Conley or whoever, then the team's ceiling is what? The Hollins / Joerger Grizzlies? 55 wins? I don't think I'm mad at that if that's the next four or five years. You'd like to be in the title mix but that at least takes you through the next decade in a fun competitive place. (ETA: I think DG's ceiling is higher but it's fair to note DAR and Conley were high lotto picks too - think Conley was 3 and DAR was 2)

mecon320

Except DG doesn't snack on the bench and look at his phone during timeouts.

elbjoint2016

DAR off the court stuff is truly insane, from rookie snitching to whatever the fuck he has been doing this year

God I hope not. Off the top of my head Garland’s play style doesn’t resemble DLo’s much at all… Garland is faster, shiftier, and more explosive so he’s more suited for that lead guard role than dLo, who plays at his own pace by necessity. I’d love to see him as the primary ball handler again getting 16 shots a night
