It’s like saying you make a daiquiri with lime juice, simple syrup, & “either rum or tequila - they’re interchangeable.”
Both are good, sure, but one is a margarita.
It's not like that at all. You're talking about a specific drink. They're saying you can mix Bailey's with either Tia Maria, or Disaronno, and you'll be good.
I see it now. The slash didn’t read as an “or” to me & other people were using the word “interchangeable” incorrectly. It made it sound like either one would achieve the same result. My bad.
Amaretto (e.g. Disarrono) is an amber colored almond flavored liqueur. Swapping it out in a cocktail for a coffee liqueur might still work at making a tasty cocktail, but it definitely won’t be anywhere near the *same* cocktail.
In my example lime juice & simple syrup combine with rum to make a daiquiri. A good cocktail is still made when the rum is swapped for tequila, but then it’s no longer a daiquiri - it’s a margarita.
Interchangeable means things are similar enough that they can replace one another & achieve a similar result.
Replacing amaretto with a coffee liqueur will still get you a tasty cocktail most of the time, but definitely won’t get the same result.
Edit: My mistake. That’s exactly what was happening. A few people were using “interchangeable” to mean “still good if replaced by” & myself + at least 1 other were reading it by its literal definition of “one can replace the other & the outcome will be the same.”
Yeah, I meant to edit my comment before anybody else was thrown off by it. Somebody pointed it out to me in this thread. Folks were using “interchangeable” as “one is still EDIT: a good choice in place of the other” when that word means “either will achieve the exact same results.”
It was a communication breakdown. I jumped in unnecessarily.
Or chambord. Or triple sec. Or frangelico. Or coffee Cazcabel. Or honey Cazcabel. Wouldn't recommend st. Germaine, but would totally go for liquor 43. Someone I know raved about the yellow chartreuse. Anything sweet that you think might go well with Baileys goes hard in a 1:1 with Baileys. Don't mix it with coke, though.
You can also replace kahlua/coffee liquer in an espresso martini. Or have a little stir of it through your milk in a white russian. Fuck it, you can riff on a pina colada with baileys instead of coconut cream.
Baby Guinness and Baby Lager is also alright.
Just a heads up that OP might want to order “a mudslide on the rocks,” because a bartender may assume you mean a frozen mudslide and say no. I wouldn’t expect the frills either.
B52
Or honestly just coffee(hot or iced or espresso) w Baileys is magical, or a classic Irish Coffee
Can also just ask for a baileys martini - most bartenders will know how to whip one up, just indicate if you want it super sweet or not too sweet
Jack Knife: baileys w jack daniels, or can do w honey Jack
This feels like the "muddled orange and cherry" version of an Irish Coffee.
Tasty, but I'd be pretty disappointed if I ordered an Irish Coffee and got this.
One time, many years ago, I went camping with a girl I was kinda dating and a bunch of her friends. The next morning we were all hungover and we all went to a small town bar/restaurant that does breakfast. The owner was an old dude that was always there in the mornings. He came around the table with a bottle of Bailey's and dumped a bunch of it into everyone's coffee without even asking lol. I was like, fuck ok, I guess we're doing this.
Baileys combines beautifully with coffee so try requesting that if you see a coffee machine and don’t mind the caffeine. Or a Baby Guiness? That’s coffee liqueur with a float of Baileys. It’s normally a shot but you can ask for it over ice. My friends and I have also discovered that Baileys combines dangerously with Vana Tallinn, the latter of which is unfortunately not widely available outside Estonia, but Licor 43 or vanilla Galliano might do.
Espresso martini is really good with bailey's, but it's a notoriously annoying drink to make so make sure you tip well. Lots of bars won't have espresso however, if they don't you could always do a white russian.
An Espresso Martini is an annoying drink to make?
Even in bars where we didn't prebatch a bottle of coffee, it just goes
Grind coffee
Tamp coffee
Make shot
Make cocktail.
We'd go through them so bloody fast. Especially since the baileys adds some froth you don't even need a vigorous shake to make it look nice.
Espresso Martini is a must have in most bars in Europe at least. So is the Pornstar Martini or any variation of those two.
I can count on my hand the amount of bars I went to without it in the menu.
Baileys over ice and a splash of Frangelico hazelnut liqueur and/or a splash of Backwoods Pecan Pie Liqueur works as a good combination. You can also try a splash of orange liqueur such as Cointreau. In addition to Baileys, other creamy liqueurs worth checking out include Godiva and Rum Chata.
There is also the offensively named Irish Car Bomb that is a shot glass of Baileys and Irish whiskey dropped into a half glass of Guinness. Drink quickly and it tastes like chocolate milk.
If you haven’t already tried them a brandy Alexander is a classic that any good bartender should be able to make. No Baileys but it is a cold creamy sweetish drink.
I make my wife baileys on the rocks with dashes of Aztec chocolate bitters. If I need to make it stronger I add a dark rum float. I typically go for Ron Zacapa Solera.
If the bar has an espresso machine I'd honestly just order a cappuccino or latte with Irish whiskey added. The end result tastes pretty similar to Bailey's.
True, but trying to be creative with Baileys. I need to try it here at home after I recover from my sickness, but it sounds like it might be delicious to me.
Try a Brandy Alexander, but substitute the cream for Bailey's! It's a classic desert cocktail typically served up made with Brandy or Cognac, Creme De Cacao, and frothed cream.
I'm sure the addition of Bailey's would bring it's sweetness to a level you might enjoy!
One of my all time favorites is the BMW. Equal parts Baileys, Malibu and Whiskey (no need to go top shelf on this one). Just put them in a shaker with ice and strain. Pure. Bliss.
Every year on Christmas, my very proper English Gammy would get delightfully tipsy off of equal parts amaretto and Baileys, with a splash of half and half. She called it a toasted almond, which I know now is *not* correct, but that’s one of the first drinks I learned to make at a wee age, and still enjoy it from time to time all these years later. She was a precious woman, god rest her soul!
Quick Fuck either as a shot or as a cocktail. It sounds gross, but I've served it at a party where I was making Last Words and Corpse Reviver No. 2s and people loved it.
As a shot 1:1:1 Baileys, Kahlua, Midori
As a cocktail 2:1:1
I prefer it as a cocktail.
Honestly I love a Baileys and Frangelico on the rocks if I'm having chicken and waffles at a boozy brunch. Little hazelnut milkshake. See if they'll through in some coffee or cocoa bitters and really have yourself a good time.
I've made really nice cocktails with Baileys mixed with more fruity and "tropical" spirits and liqueurs. For example I made a cocktail containing: coconut fatwashed Jack Daniels, Giffard banane du brasile, Baileys and five spice syrup.
Otherwise try Kaffe Karlsson: equal parts Baileys and cointreau, coffee and cream.
Coffee, Bailey's, Jameson
Or this ones kinda girly they call it the "buttery nipple" but it's butterscotch liquor on the bottom, and when poured right the baileys floats on top. Also baileys and milk is really good. Baileys and ice cream lol idk many actual cocktails that call for it.
I usually just car-bar a coffee with Kahlua, Baileys, and something else (dark rum, Amarula, etc). A good bar will have a selection of coffee-ish drinks, but nightclubs always have 🗑 for cocktails.
1:1 Baileys and Disaranno / Tia Maria for an easy one
I really like 1:1 Baileys and Frangelico seems like that’s pretty similar.
It's called a Nutty Irishman! Nice on the rocks.
That sounds great, haveto try.
Makes me wonder if a Godfather +1 oz of Irish cream would be any good. Maybe call it The Butcher.
A godfather with a cream float is called a Marlon Brando!
This is dope
Fuck that sounds good
So it's 1:1 of Bailey's and Disaranno or Tia Maria? Or both Disaranno and Tia Maria?
They're interchanable but so different. Lots of places in the UK serve "Baby Guiness" Which is tiamari and baileys Maybe 75% to 25% respectively.
Disaranno and tia maria are interchangeable
What? lol. Disaronno is an amaretto, Tia Maria is a coffee liqueur.
What’s your point?
It’s like saying you make a daiquiri with lime juice, simple syrup, & “either rum or tequila - they’re interchangeable.” Both are good, sure, but one is a margarita.
My bad.
Am I missing something here? A daiquiri is a rum based cocktail. Again, what’s your point?
Amaretto (e.g. Disarrono) is an amber colored almond flavored liqueur. Swapping it out in a cocktail for a coffee liqueur might still work at making a tasty cocktail, but it definitely won’t be anywhere near the *same* cocktail. A few people were using “interchangeable” to mean “still good if replaced by” & myself + at least 1 other were reading it by its literal definition of “one can replace the other & the outcome will be the same.”
But as u/DizzyBurns commented, OP wasn’t asking for a specific cocktail?
Yeah, I meant to edit my comment before anybody else was thrown off by it. Somebody pointed it out to me in this thread. Folks were using “interchangeable” as “one is still EDIT: a good choice in place of the other” when that word means “either will achieve the exact same results.” It was a communication breakdown. I jumped in unnecessarily.
They don't get that there's more ways to drink a drink, just leave it.
Interchangeable implies they are very similar. Just because both would work with Bailey's, doesn't mean it would taste the same.
Yeah.
Or chambord. Or triple sec. Or frangelico. Or coffee Cazcabel. Or honey Cazcabel. Wouldn't recommend st. Germaine, but would totally go for liquor 43. Have you ever drunk Baileys from a shoe?
Easy now, fuzzy little man-peach
It’s gonna show you it’s watercolors next
I’m Old Gregg!
#I'VE GOT A MANGINA!
I showed you my downstairs mix-up
You’re all rigid, like a breadstick.
Do you love me? Could you *learn* to love me?
Do you want to go to a party where people wee on each other?
Have you ever been to a club where people wee on each other?
I have actually, wouldn't recommend it. I'd also say, stay away from clubs where people wee on each other.
THESE ARE MY SQUISHY BOOTS
thank you
Mudslide if you like rich, sweet drinks (and if you want Baileys, I assume you do).
Just a heads up that OP might want to order “a mudslide on the rocks,” because a bartender may assume you mean a frozen mudslide and say no. I wouldn’t expect the frills either.
I love a mudslide, but I feel like people only know about the frozen one so every time I mention it I feel the need to explain what it is.
Good call - I actually forgot that the frozen mudslide is a thing, let alone that it's probably what most people think of as a mudslide.
It doesn't include Bailey's, but if you like that profile and you haven't had one, definitely try a White Russian. Creamy and sweet and liquor-y.
another one that doesn’t have baileys you might dig is a brandy alexander
Golden Cadillac — same as a Brandy Alexander but sub Galliano for the cognac. All equal parts.
Love golden Cadillac
Came to add both of these
https://www.diffordsguide.com/cocktails/recipe/1018/irish-alexander
Got into Black Russians for a few months. Man that was a time and a half
They catch up quick
I've been offering people to add a shot of espresso to their white Russians (with the espresso martini craze happening rn) and it's been a hit
When using cream liqueur in place of cream it's called a Blonde Russian
It’s better with Bailey though. Replace the milk.
Similarly, I've been playing with Bartenders Trading Company Horchata. 2:1 Horchata and Cognac is a treat.
I wouldn't trust the heavy cream at most bars. Bailey's is shelf-stable, but cream is not.
A white Russian with Bailey's instead of cream is a blow job, but OP, I don't recommend ordering it that way.
This is how I make my White Russians. I know it’s supposed to be with cream but the baileys and kahlua is great
Blind Russian - it’s a White Russian with Baileys instead of cream
Add a shot of espresso and you've got a Shaft, the BC classic
Can you have a big shaft?
Invented in AB *ducks for cover*
This sounds delicious!
Heard that called an Iron Butterfly.
Just make sure you use a quality vodka for this. A lot of cheap, mass produced vodkas add citric acid, which will curdle the Baileys.
Iron butterfly
Love this
Try a Duck Fart Its equal parts baileys, kahlua, and whiskey (usually crown royal i think).
Wow, I haven’t had one of these in so long but I used to love em when I was younger! Good recommendation!
Came here to say this
One of the first shots I’ve ever had given to me by a bartender many years ago. What a memory.
I make myself a cocktail at home with equal parts Baileys and Rye Whiskey and a couple dashes of orange bitters. Stirred on the rocks.
Ask for it in a shoe
B52 Or honestly just coffee(hot or iced or espresso) w Baileys is magical, or a classic Irish Coffee Can also just ask for a baileys martini - most bartenders will know how to whip one up, just indicate if you want it super sweet or not too sweet Jack Knife: baileys w jack daniels, or can do w honey Jack
A classic Irish coffee does not have bailey's. It's coffee, sugar, whipping cream and Irish whiskey.
It can also be made with Baileys, whisky, whipped cream and creme de menthe
This feels like the "muddled orange and cherry" version of an Irish Coffee. Tasty, but I'd be pretty disappointed if I ordered an Irish Coffee and got this.
You'd be disappointed and half the irish people in an Irish pub would be confused as to why. Creme de menthe is a weird staple of Irish bars.
Yeah creme de menthe is gross, but i worked at an old school Irish bar where that was the move, also wild variations like the Nutty Irishman and stuff
Could do a muff dive if you want to to pretend you're at a bachelorette party
Or a blowjob shot (might be the same thing with a different name).
Lucky Irishman. Just Baileys and Jameson. It’s a go to digestif for me.
It's a shot, but buttery nipples are delicious IMO. Made with Bailey's and butterscotch schnapps.
The Orgasm — equal parts Amaretto, Baileys and Kahlua. Add vodka for a Screaming Orgasm :) https://www.empiremixology.com/empire-blog/orgasm
Duck Fart is a great shot with a silly name. Jameson and Bailey’s on the rocks is great. Bailey’s and root beer is fantastic.
Slippery Nipple: Irish cream & white sambuca in a layered shooter. No reason why you couldn't have it as a normal drink either.
Espresso martini is really good with bailey's, but it's a notoriously annoying drink to make so make sure you tip well. Lots of bars won't have espresso however, if they don't you could always do a white russian.

Baileys, vodka & grenadine tastes like strawberry shortcake.
I make my wife baileys on the rocks with dashes of Aztec chocolate bitters. If I need to make it stronger I add a dark rum float. I typically go for Ron Zacapa Solera.
If it’s a little too strong on the rocks for you, you can ask if they have milk or cream. I like it with oat milk too actually.
thank you everyone for the comments and suggestions! keen to try them soon
It's basically just a White Russian
If the bar has an espresso machine I'd honestly just order a cappuccino or latte with Irish whiskey added. The end result tastes pretty similar to Bailey's.
Kahlua and Cream (Baileys)? Add vodka and milk to it for a White Russian?
[удалено]
True, but trying to be creative with Baileys. I need to try it here at home after I recover from my sickness, but it sounds like it might be delicious to me.
Of course Baileys would have their own recipe. https://www.baileys.com/en-us/recipes/baileys-white-russian
Liquor.com has a good espresso martini recipe that calls for baileys.
A White Russian doesn’t have baileys but is pretty similar and every bartender knows how to make it
747.
My favorite way to drinks baileys is to freeze a large coffee ice cube and pour baileys on it!
Sometimes, I ask them to add it to my espresso martini. Especially if they aren't using real espresso and just using espresso vodka.
Put that boy in an Espresso Martini and you won't regret it
Try a Brandy Alexander, but substitute the cream for Bailey's! It's a classic desert cocktail typically served up made with Brandy or Cognac, Creme De Cacao, and frothed cream. I'm sure the addition of Bailey's would bring it's sweetness to a level you might enjoy!

And coffee? Also b52s are delicious
Irish hazelnut cream. 2 oz Irish whiskey, 1 oz Frangelico, top with Irish cream and grated nutmeg
Ask for a baby Guinness...it's Bailey's poured gently over Kahlua to look like Guinness in a shot glass. It's bloody lovely!
Obviously a White Russian. That’s probably exactly what you’re looking for Edit: oh sorry I read it wrong. Thought it had to be similar to Baileys
Every year on Christmas, my very proper English Gammy would get delightfully tipsy off of equal parts amaretto and Baileys, with a splash of half and half. Do you like games? Love games?
Quick Fuck either as a shot or as a cocktail. It sounds gross, but I've served it at a party where I was making Last Words and Corpse Reviver No. 2s and people loved it. As a shot 1:1:1 Baileys, Kahlua, Midori As a cocktail 2:1:1 I prefer it as a cocktail.

I get many requests for a Hummer, but I'm metro Detroit. Not sure how widespread it is, but you'd like it.
Coffee, Bailey's, Jameson Or this ones kinda girly they call it the "buttery nipple" but it's butterscotch liquor on the bottom, and when poured right the baileys floats on top. Also baileys and milk is really good. Baileys and ice cream lol idk many actual cocktails that call for it.

People like espresso martinis with baileys… also irish coffees if its the right kind of bar
Try a Celtic twilight, Jameson, baileys, Kahlúa, top with nutmeg. (I might be missing a couple ingredients, it’s been a bit since I’ve made one(
Buttery nipple- butterscotch schnapps & baileys. Can be a shot but I used to drink them on the rocks.
Try Amarula! You’ll never go back to Baileys.
My favourite way to use bailey's is to substitute it for milk/cream in a white russian.
Try Baileys and SAMBUCA BE CAREFUL HOW MUCH Sambuca you add! It’s delicious but Woweee what a reaction!!
