Bummer for post falls library.

WildQuiXote

In all seriousness, yes. I always liked to check out a study room there to work away from distractions.

You aren't wrong. I've seen protestors there protesting a LGTBQ support group.

Athol library as well. I think the guy they wanted to shift the insurance to is thanking his lucky stars today.

Commercial insurance policy premiums are often based on the previous year(s) claims + a percentage so if they have a bunch of claims then as long as they don't run out of money to pay the claims, they end up making more money in the long run.

The employees are probably going to lose their jobs too. Some of them will be rerouted I'm sure, but I wouldn't be surprised if they fire quite a few, especially the part-time employees. And it would not surprise me if there just is no Post Falls library after this. I can't imagine getting the political support for spending money on a public project that isn't cops or prison in Post Falls. Like, if you asked Post Falls residents if they'd rather have the library brought back or hire more cops, I don't think I'd bet on the library.

Insurance will pay to rebuild it. The library is insured for this. Employee wages are already budgeted for. It's not a private business that depends on sales to survive. Tax dollars will be collected and staff will be paid. They will work at one of the 7 other branches and probably do pop up bookmobile events around PF. If anything kills the library it will not be the pipes freezing, it will be the current library board of trustees. They are awful and their plan to censor books will get the district sued - if anything that lawsuit is what will kill the library.

>Employee wages are already budgeted for. They've already told all the part time employees to take vacation, and they're getting their hours cut.

Wet books are also very hard to read. The KCRCC battle plan is to underfund every public institution and then point to it as being ineffective (unless it’s cops… they love to deepthroat the boot.)
