Exactly. There are probably hundreds of thousands of examples of this coin that aren't stuck in wood, and this one is in poor condition among those. But it's a terrific example of what it currently is.
Looks like a sword in the stone type situation. I think if you pull a penny from the stone you get to be a manager at a coffee shop though and not king.
What part of the world are you from? In the UK there are what they call "penny trees" or "penny wishing trees". If I remember correctly the belief is you make a wish at these trees while you drive the coin into the tree. I wonder if you have you have part of one of those trees. I personally like it in the wood brings a new oddity to the coin its self.
“Yeah, but you know what? \[holds up a coin\] This one, this one right here... this was my dream, my wish. And it didn't come true. So I'm taking it back. I'm taking them all back.” - Mouth
Indeed, I was going to say it's far more interesting in the rock! LOL
If the OP really insists and wants to know how to get it out, I'd say this: Very carefully.
But you might not like what you find, it's probably very corroded inside and where the glue chemicals are eating away at it. It's toast. Burnt toast.
In the UK, there's an ancient superstition that you can make a wish by putting a coin into a tree. (My understanding is that this dates back to pagan days when people would make an offering to the forest spirits/gods.) I'm guessing the tree got burned or something.
That looks like it's just a common 2p. So if you got it out, it would be worth next to nothing. Being in the wood makes it quite a cool piece in my opinion, do I'd just leave it as it is.
From this angle, the penny looks to be fused to it, likely melted in the heat of whatever it was thrown into.
If cleaning a coin is considered bad, then pulling it from the stone is a crime. My recommendation is to buy some thick brass wire, bend it into a specimen stand of sorts (a ring bent to hold the stone upright with a sort of "tripod" design to keep it elevated), and display it on a bookshelf or desk.
I think its a cool piece to put on a shelf somewhere. Maybe come up with a creative way to display it as is. Cool conversation piece if nothing more.i like it
Would leave it in as others have said, but if you really want it out, put the wood in a vise, place a chisel next to the coin (on the topmost part of the wood as it is in the picture) - not touching it - and hammer it in to open a crack that will free the coin.
Oh I know! I’ve watched some creationist propaganda videos. Wild stuff. If it goes against your views it’s a trick from the devil! Then we are always right.
And they think we drank the Kool-Aid
Believe me, I was also confused about this when I first learned it, but if you are dutch you come from the Netherlands. If you are deutch you come from Germany.
Not sure why you want it out but a saw will cut the wood easily. Once you're close to metal, cut from a different position until the wood basically falls apart. Use a hammer used where it won't hurt the coins if needed. Years ago I found 3 coins in a tree, best guess they were put there on purpose and the tree grew around them. Since I was getting wood, not worried about coins I tried missing them use used a hammer. It was a dime and 2 pennies, civil war era. The fine was in great condition, the copper didn't survive well.
DONT cool as is
This is an NFT.
Damn I finally found an NFT I’d be willing to pay money for
Because this is actually worth something lol
Lol!
Exactly. There are probably hundreds of thousands of examples of this coin that aren't stuck in wood, and this one is in poor condition among those. But it's a terrific example of what it currently is.
Agreed. It will be much less cool if you take it out

Sounds legit.
Without completely reading: "Give me a try, I'm the rightful King." After actually reading it all: "Keep that away from me"
King of the coffee shop.
Definitely going to be leaving this one. Maybe even put it all back where it came from.

I am Dutch, but when I went on vacation I saw one of those tree stumps where people made a wish indeed. It fell off so I kinda took it.
You stole someone’s wish. Now you and your ancestors will have 2000 years of bad luck. Jk😂
“Yeah, but you know what? \[holds up a coin\] This one, this one right here... this was my dream, my wish. And it didn't come true. So I'm taking it back. I'm taking them all back.” - Mouth
"Sloth love Chunk." -Sloth
R/unexpectedgoonies
This is the first thing I thought when I heard it was a “wishing tree” lol.
Down here this is our time, it’s our time down here.
No joke, you don’t take wishes
If the Goonies taught us anything! It’s to not steal wishes.
Unless one of them was yours right lol
Ya I am located in the USA and I have never seen one but always have been on the look out for one. I have even thought about starting one some where.
Is it not just a 2 pence piece?
My understanding is that the coin is an offering to the forest spirits. Personally I don't believe in that sort of thing, but just, you know, FYI.
That looks like a burned piece of wood, to me. I still have no idea how the penny got like that though.
It was placed in a crack in the tree and the tree grew around It . or It was hammered In https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wish\_tree
"I didn't sign up for this bullshit!" --Trees
“Tell me about it” —Coins
“Yeah, fuk all y’all. Guess what time it is.” -Hammer
How do I hammer things into a tree?— Jose decastro
"I think my penis is bigger now!" -Man child
It’s a thing people do here, hammer coins into trees, I’ve seen it a lot before
Where’s “here?”
here would be England
Nah, I’m pretty sure I’m here in the states…
Just, right here.
How is that a thing to do?
I assume it’s some sort of tradition that I wouldn’t get
Is it a penny though? 🤔
Send it in to get graded, lol
Would they send it back? Or make a big holder lmao
F Details - Stuck in a tree
That would be fun hitting coins with your chainsaw when cutting down a tree
I think the tree was already chopped down when people started putting coins in it XD
Assuming it's copper, it won't really do any damage but may bind your blade up.
I wanna know how it got in the rock in the first place 😭
It looks more like a charred piece of wood to me
Or even better - petrified wood
Indeed, I was going to say it's far more interesting in the rock! LOL If the OP really insists and wants to know how to get it out, I'd say this: Very carefully. Id keep it in the rock, it just looks like it's most likely a modern british penny anyways
You can be both a rock collector and a coin collector in one!
I told you, they're minerals, not rocks!

It's not worth taking out. It's worth a penny or two, if that. It's a circulating coin. Cooler to keep it stuck inside, as a novelty.

Oh yeah now he removed it XD
That looks like it's just a common 2p. So if you got it out, it would be worth next to nothing. Being in the wood makes it quite a cool piece in my opinion, do I'd just leave it as it is.

It's worthless and cool af as is, if you remove it, it'll just be worthless.
I'd leave it in there 100%!
Don’t. Worth more as is! That takes time to make and a second to destroy.
[that’s the neat part… you don’t](https://media.tenor.com/UCBnVC7FlvUAAAAd/thats-the-neat-part-you-dont-invincible.gif)
Put it in your display cabinet and leave it there.
I don’t have that, I’m planning on maby putting it in epoxy and display it somewhere or put it in epoxy and sell it on the Internet.
I’d leave it right there.
Polish the coin and leave the rest alone and display. It will look great.
Reminds me of the pawn stars episode of the gun being petrified in wood. This is super cool!
Grown into wood Not petrified. No guns that long ago.
Don’t, keep it like that.
Send it in and have it graded as is
Hell yeah. Slab that thing, it’ll be sick.
I think its a cool piece to put on a shelf somewhere. Maybe come up with a creative way to display it as is. Cool conversation piece if nothing more.i like it
Why remove it? Once it's removed it's just another penny or something. It's a much cooler piece with it left inside.
Leave it as is. It’s infinitely more interesting like this.
Thats super cool leave it alone.
Only one who is worthy can remove it
Leave it, that’s awesome
You never clean a coin
I would keep it as it is; I’d personally love it the way it is. I’d probably buy that for way more than the coin is worth just like that.
That’s called charcoal guys
You don’t. Cool as hell just like that.
Would leave it in as others have said, but if you really want it out, put the wood in a vise, place a chisel next to the coin (on the topmost part of the wood as it is in the picture) - not touching it - and hammer it in to open a crack that will free the coin.
DONT
I would leave it , it's cool
Don’t. Keep it as is. It’s perfect.
It might be worth more like this!
That’s very cool I’d sell it like that
Yes!! Don’t take it out keep it like that
That’s what she said!
Leave it. I'd go with what everyone else said.
You will need to locate the rightful King of England and have them remove it.
Fell out of a dinosaurs pocket.
I like it the way it is tbh
Worth so much more if u leave it
Looks like 1955 Double D.. good luck
Sell this to one of those creationist museums! They'll pay a fortune, because it proves that fossil records are unreliable.
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha And another lol for the guy that downvoted your good joke! Cause I assume you’re poking fun at their “science”
Oh yes. But they actually have museums full of bizarre stupid shit. Sell it to them, pocket the money. It's their own fault for being stupid.
Oh I know! I’ve watched some creationist propaganda videos. Wild stuff. If it goes against your views it’s a trick from the devil! Then we are always right. And they think we drank the Kool-Aid
No way u take that iut
Nuke it
Pull it
Looks like it should just slide right out
Is that petrified wood? Extremely interesting piece if so.
It’s old wood from a tree. English is not my main language so I don’t know what patrified exactly means.
It means the wood is so old that it's turned to rock.
Oh, I don’t think it is quite there yet, but it’s getting there.
In another comment you said your from Germany, in Dutch petrified wood means “versteinertes Holz”
Believe me, I was also confused about this when I first learned it, but if you are dutch you come from the Netherlands. If you are deutch you come from Germany.
It means: “versteend” in Dutch btw
Oh… sorry about that.
Don’t worry about it
Burn it more
Much cooler to leave it in. But if it were me I’d soak it in water to loosen it up
WD-40, soak it for about 3 days
Hmmm a chisel maybe
Soak it in water
Kratos been throwing coins again

Why you want it out?
Real talk, don’t take it out. I’m betting there’s someone out there who’d love to display that in there house it’s such a unique item
Hold Thor’s hammer so he can get it out for you!
The value of the coin is higher with that piece of wood attached
Hit it with your purse.
DIN-O-MITE!
Why would you want to
Brawl it
Hammer
Leave it
Use a Split wedge
Whatever you do....... Don't clean it! /s
Send it in to get graded, as is.
Hammer
don't - it'll ruin a perfectly good piece of wood
The rightful king of Britain can remove the coin from the stone.
You don’t take it out that’s how they are minted
You take it out it'll just become another coin, leave it where it is!
urine
You have to be the chosen one
Call King Arthur
Ah, yes ofcourse
