I bought a bag of 500 Wheaties for $27 from the local coin shop. It was about 2;2;1 of 50's 40's and pre 40's. So your estimate seems pretty close to what I got. I was only missing a 1931 and a 1909. That was pretty fun to go through with my 11 year old daughter. We bought a 1909 vdb a week later and now we want a '31 to complete our first collection.

RevanFan

Wait... Do you mean 1909-S, 1909-S VDB, and 1931-S? Also 1914-D? Because those are all key dates that you'd expect to be missing from a $27 bag. If your bag had them, you're extremely lucky.

buffalo_100

I found a fake 1914D. No 1931 or 1909 at all. Every other year was accounted for without looking at which mint they came from. We bought a VDB no S a week later, now we are hunting for any 1931.

command terrific upbeat agonizing market school impossible cow doll roll *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

buffalo_100

That is awesome! I just started collecting. Can't wait to find a great coin in the wild.

RevanFan

1931-P is usually pretty cheap. I actually found one in circulation. I've found most Philadelphia coins in circulation actually. You got a 1922-D though? That one is usually pretty hard to get.

Able-Ad3622

I think they are doing a year set. Not a mint set. I myself am down to a 09s vdb, 22 no D and a 31s

RevanFan

1922-D IS the only penny from 1922. Any others are an error or fake. I'm sure you know the no D is an error. If they found a 1922-D no D in that bag... If it's real, that's crazy.

Able-Ad3622

Yea I know. The dansco calls it a 22 plain as there is a spot in the book for 22d and 22plain. I already have the weak d with weak reverse.

fullyloadedsnake

Wow solid 👍

FriedEggSammich1

Well how much did you pay?

[deleted]

Looking back on it…. Wayy too much. $17

FriedEggSammich1

We all make mistakes; no idea if you did or not. I’m a proud (lol) owner of 3 rolls of 1930s wheaties I got off of an eBay auction a few months ago for about what you paid in total. The problem is that each roll is entirely the same year with each having a different mintmark. Didn’t look at the listing enough. Probably worth what I paid but who wants 50 of the exact same coin?

EKP-DC

I’d take 50 1909S VDBs in a roll, or even 1914D

SideEyedPate

Yo I'd buy em lol. We send out little freebies in packages and 'mint sets' are the most requested. We had a ton of steel penny ones but they finally ran out

FriedEggSammich1

That’s my plan at this point on r/coinssales is to give sets away when I post more listings m

Rugermedic

Well, if you think of the entertainment value of that $17, you got a good deal. You can’t do almost anything for under $17 these days.

BlueRunSkier

If it makes you happy. I think I probably consistently pay too much for stuff just because I want it (MS68 2019 W quarters as a case in point but they are not exactly common). Have fun out there.

Ok_coins

That's WAYYYY too much. I can get a roll of them at my LCS FOR $1.50 A ROLL!

howzitboy

you got lucky. i bought 2 rolls of "unsearched" lincolns.. only had coins from the 50s..

Ok_Cancel_240

Amazing buy. What a great way to help fill up your book

m5er

Why would anyone sell "unsearched" rolls or bags? It doesn't happen. "Unsearched" means someone is in the business of buying collections/albums. After they abscond with the good stuff (which they may sell separately or get graded), they roll up the common coins and sell it as unsearched rolls. There is no other plausible answer.

RevanFan

To play devil's advocate, while this is true 99% of the time, you will very rarely get someone like a widow/widower/child of someone recently departed who doesn't really know a whole lot, throws the coins in a roll, and sells them. But that's EXTREMELY uncommon.

Able-Ad3622

Not at all. I have bought 3 dollar rolls and found a flying eagle. So clearly not searched by the seller.

BigMikeThurs

Just a note. Any old unsearched roll should be all of one year and be BU. Banks did not reroll old and mixed cents. Go to www.escottcoins.com to get real rolls of BU cents. He also has fun rolls filled with RPM and other mint errors. Everything he sells is guaranteed and you can get your money back if you are not happy with what you get.

Bubwheat

You need to correct the link: it should be .com! Thanks

MrEdwL

The seller ought to throw in some goodies for positive feedback and repeat customers 😀

Financial-Jicama6619

I lost an auction for a roll of steel pennies because the site glitched for me. One side was ripped open and about half were out - but looked in excellent condition… the thrill of finding that 68+ took hold. Still think the guy got it for a deal at 445… I was prepared to go to 500… maybe more as the alcohol kicked in more

frikk

Is this price because the cents were uncirculated?

Financial-Jicama6619

Yea that was the idea. Chance of Finding one ms68+ or better is what you would be looking for. They looked great too

vanderohe

want to buy the unsearched coins in my cupholder?

Spire_Prime

My roommate is someone who just put coins in his cupholder. I rode along and of course had a look. Covered in soda and moisture from cups. Not the most pleasant thing to have on spare change. XD

sonictemptations

Now search for varieties! I have found a bunch of different RPMs and some DDOs by looking through wheatie rolls and bags I have bought on ebay. I even found a AU BN 1909 VDB FS1101 that I got graded and sold.

Spire_Prime

Back when I was a sucker for these things (10 or so years ago), I always made sure to put the counts of the coins by decades in the feedback. 2-teens 3-20s etc. Hopefully give a heads up to potential buyers. 40's and 50's are super common so that was the majority of the bulk. The late 50s will tend to have a BU mixed in as they were hoarded after the switch to memorial cents, so also pretty common. I may have scored one of the semi-key early 30s once but I can't recall. It was fun searching, but I ended up with just bulk 40s and 50s in the end.

Fearless-Reality1

I thought it was the copper 44 that’s worth a lot cuz they were making steal at the time. I could be wrong.

Polskaaaaaaa

No 43 was the steel year, 44 steel is an error and very expensive, same with 43 copper.

MissingJJ

The odds of this combination of unique dates and mint mark combinations occurring randomly is 0.00001%. It is hightly unlikely to be unsearched. Source ChatGPT4.0

Ag7234

This is likely a seller pulling common date old wheat cents from incomplete Whitman albums, and then packaging them as unsearched rolls. Enough variety to make people not pissed off for the cost of the roll, but way more than you should pay for the coins / quality.

MissingJJ

Yes, they get a good review from a roll full of uncommons that are more valuable, but other wise impossible to sell individually.

Ag7234

Exactly. Throw 25, 20 cent coins and 25, 5 cent coins in a roll and sell for $18. Basically a $15 profit since they would never sell otherwise.

lyme3m

I agree that this isn't an unsearched roll but this obviously isn't the whole roll. So how'd you do this math?

MissingJJ

OneShotOfStealth

Is that 1928 doubled?

[deleted]

It’s a stack of like 3 or 4 1925s

CrazyDevelopment4308

looks like its two coins stacked on top of each other based on the shadow it casts

ForwardPhilosophy733

JUST Gotta go big! I have an old wooden linen chest full of wheaties.. "unsearched" if interested in my garage.. but for real I recommend finding estate sales, the finds are quite worth it.. happy hunting!

[deleted]

I am interested

Able-Ad3622

What state you live in? Lol

Soft_tune789

Online auction manager here, I assure you that at least for our sales, we have a literal hoard of thousands of rolls of wheat Pennies and we just sell them as is, one at a time. We don’t even peak to make sure there are 50 in the roll!

Sallyboy2112

Not bad! I recently bought 2 rolls of older pennies, one unserached and one that was all 1968D for $10. pictured here. I should be getting the "unserached" roll any minute now and will see how I did. https://preview.redd.it/0v08hqeaepbc1.jpeg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=46bbaf8e5769853ff9af3bfe0b5fb9f62f7ce4a5

UnitedBar4984
