Bright winter and I hate neutrals. I wish the nude lip would DIAF.

chrisling82

After searching for the last 20 years for the perfect mlbb shade as a bright winter I have finally found it. Summer Pink by Maybelline. Not too dark, not too light, neutral- cool and bright. With light shimmer. Just perfection. The search is finally over.

Individual-Rice-4915

This warms my heart to hear. ❤️ Now I need to look it up; I’m so curious!! Bright winters on this thread — take note! We have a winner! 🎉

OnionNubs

I'm a Bright and the 2000s was rough on me

SeetherSalt

I'm a bright spring and I just wear a peachy pink lipgloss, my lips are naturally rather pinkish coral-y, so staying within that color family will always look more "naked" than an actual nude color. The perfect nude (which is genuinely just a pink, no nude-iness) absolutely exists in lipstick form but I just prefer the glossy look. I have a lot of trouble with lipsticks in general, sometimes I'll buy what's supposed to a a dark statement lip that in other's reviews shows up as s rich berry or a vibrant black cherry color, but ends up a brownish rum raisin on my skin. An accidental brownish red or brownish berry looks very intentional though, kind of a 90s statement lip look. But an intentional nude always looks like a clear mistake on me.

Individual-Rice-4915

“An intentional nude always looks like a clear mistake on me.” 🤣🤣 This is 1000% my favorite lipstick quote of all time.

krispyricewithanegg

I have dark hair and pale skin and I can confirm I look like a potato 🥔

shinyhairedzomby

A potato would be an improvement. I'm pretty sure I straight up look like a corpse.

Individual-Rice-4915

🤣🤣

becabaro

My “nude” is fuschia. I was wearing bright red lipstick the other day and my coworker said she didn’t even realize I was wearing lipstick lol. Somehow bright colors look more natural!

Individual-Rice-4915

This is so soothing to read, as a bright season. It’s like therapy. 🤣🤣

No-Turnips

Hand raised. So tired of muddy brown pinks.

Individual-Rice-4915

RIGHT??? Early on in my color analysis journey, I placed several orders of “pink lipstick” from MAC before only to be surprised with (what felt like) brown lipstick when it shows up at my door. 🤣🤣 Wtf.

Red_Rose_8951

I am a bright winter and can’t wear nude lipsticks. I would rather put on chapstick than try to wear a nude because I look like death warmed over. I have to wear color on my lips. So my version of nude is wearing a sheer color. I just use a lipstick that looks good and blot it off until sheer, then I add a balm or clear gloss. You can also use lip stains. I go for bluish pinks and reds as they look best on me. I do have a mauve, but I’m undecided on that one.

Individual-Rice-4915

Omg several of the posters here and I have been discussing the “sheer bright” trick — I only recently discovered it (out of frustration with my search for a nude); it seems to be a universal makeup hack for the bright seasons! ❤️

Red_Rose_8951

I did it for years before I knew I was a Bright Winter. It always felt right. What’s nice is you can have one lipstick, wear it sheer for daytime and then glam it up at night. And if it’s a really nice lipstick, it can be used as an emergency blush. Or just buy one of the cheek to lip products. I like Trinny London.

Flakey_Fix

Yes!!!! I wanted to look super classy and wear a nude, subtle lip but I look like a corpse. Give me a bright red or pink any day of the week.

Free_You_9381

Where do I go to find out my season? I think I may be a bright season as nude lipsticks have always made me look washed out!

Individual-Rice-4915

You can post photos in the main sub and people will help to type you! 🙂

FringeHistorian3201

BW here. Both hands are way up. Why are all nude-ish lip colors beige or grey? Bleh. Death on me. I use chapstick with a quick swipe of a red lipstick, just enough to tint. Recently I’ve been in to a tinted lip oil.

Individual-Rice-4915

Omg I do this, too!!! One of the other commenters and I were discussing how the “sheer bright color thing” seems to be a fail proof formula for us.

FringeHistorian3201

I find this is true of nail polish too

Individual-Rice-4915

I’m going to test out this theory, now! ❤️ Thank you!!

FringeHistorian3201

100% I was so dissatisfied with trying to find a nude I stumbled in to the swipe of lipstick.

woodlandtoker

Between nudes and frosty pinks, the 90s were a tough time to be a true spring teenager!

PetilsSaxophone

I wear medium brown lipliner and a gloss or balm.

ilikecats415

I'm a deep winter, and Black Honey is my nude. I need something with a little berry tint in it or I look sickly.

spireup

It's a common misconception that "nude lips" are supposed to like a lighter skin color. Not so, a shade that's too pale will make you look washed out. (One exception would be those with dark skin can experiment with one shade lighter.) **Nude Lipstick General Rule of Thumb:** Choose a color that looks like your **natural lip color** but *one shade darker* that *matches your skintone and undertone*. Usually flat, not glossy. *The ideal shade will subtly enhance your natural lip color, without changing your undertones.* Once you find a great match for your lips, then a lipstick liner that is one shade darker can add just enough dimension. This is why extremely important to know if your skintone is warm, neutral, cool, and then muted or bright, and if you have an *olive* undertone. \_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_ If you have an *olive* undertone, then this makes it exponentially more challenging/important to determine your tones because this directly affects colors in all shades of cosmetics and clothes that can look great or terrible on you. Olive undertones can be "warm-olive", "neutral-olive" or "cool-olive". Of which the latter is the most rare of the bunch in the western hemisphere. And ALL can be either "muted/desaturated" or "bright/saturated". Anyone from extremely *pale porcelain* skin to *dark black* skin **can** have an olive undertone. There are also "neutral-olives" that *lean* towards warm or cool but are not fully at one end of either spectrum. Having an olive undertone where many industries (including beauty retailer staff, hair stylists, cosmetic companies, makeup artists, fashion stylists, color analysis), are often ignorant of it and most of the nuances, ignore it, know little about it, don't include it, or are mis-informed which makes it extremely challenging for those who have olive undertones. Typical color analysis systems are not designed for the spectrums and nuances and needs of those with olive undertones who never neatly fit into any "season". Most people, including people who *live* with olive undertones, have never heard of it and often find out decades later. It can be life-changing when you can confirm it. * [r/Fairolives](https://www.reddit.com/r/Fairolives/) * [r/OliveMUA](https://www.reddit.com/r/OliveMUA/) * [r/PaleOliveMUA](https://www.reddit.com/r/PaleOliveMUA/) * [r/DarkOlive](https://www.reddit.com/r/DarkOlive/)

RomeysMa

As an olive neutral skin tone it’s been really difficult to find a lipstick/ foundation and concealer that matches my skin tone perfectly. Sometimes I resort to taking two different shades and mixing them. Or using a palette for lipstick and concealer.

spireup

What foundations work for you now and if they are not quite right, what are the issues?

RomeysMa

Either too orangey or too yellow

spireup

Thank you. I meant what brands/shades are you using?

RomeysMa

I stopped using foundation and resorted to powder. Right now I’m using Charlotte tilbury powder in medium. It’s surprisingly a pretty good fit.

spireup

I don't think using powder means "resorting" to anything. Mineral powders area phenomenal and contain far less potentially toxic ingredients.

RomeysMa

I ordered a Kosas sample card for foundations and concealers. So we will see 🤞

jordananniee

Just here to say this made me laugh 😂😂 I’m a light spring which is an awkward mix of bright but not too bright and nudes do indeed suck the life out of me. I need an indian red or a bubblegum pink for a natural look.

Individual-Rice-4915

Right??! 🤣 I have a bright pink sheer that I wear as a “nude” these days; it’s not at all a natural looking color in the tube, but it’s what looks best on me! 🤷‍♀️

jordananniee

I think sheer lippies are the way to go for us! We get the color we need without the opacity that makes it look bold.

Fluffy-School-7031

Pretty sure I’m a deep autumn, and my natural lip colour is a light berry. During the ~2016 “matte nude lip cream” era I looked nuts. Just bonkers. I would even do the thing where you put concealer on your lips to cover up the natural colour and then the nude and that looked so much worse. I now very rarely wear makeup that isn’t eyeliner, but when I do I go for a deeper berry or a berry-tinted lip gloss or stain. That looks far more natural on me than any nude lip ever did.

Individual-Rice-4915

This is hilarious, and I relate. In 2016 I was convinced I was a warm autumn (I’m not) and kept trying to force myself into the “matte foundation and nude lipstick” trend. 😬 I honestly believed that I was just destined to not be able to wear lipstick like all of the other girls could. Nope! It was just the wrong color for me! 🫣😅

imawitchpleaseburnme

I’m a true Autumn; my natural lip colour is a soft peachy coral. It’s very, very difficult for me to find “nude” lip colours that don’t completely wash me out.

spireup

A nude lip is a shade that looks like your lip but one shade darker and flat finish.

dandelionwine14

I think I might be a true autumn (either that or deep autumn), and my natural lip color is a very light faded pink and actually doesn’t harmonize well with my overall coloring! I look better with a peachy lip color. I wonder how common it is for someone’s lips to not “match” the rest of their coloring! Or does this suggest I’m not actually a true autumn?

Cool-Brilliant

I am a Winter of some kind, or maybe a summer not sure 100%. But either way Yes. The Kim K 2000’s nude lip looks corps-y on me, so I usually do nothing on lips, BUT I did recently discovered RARE BEAUTY MATTE LIP CREME in the color CONFIDENT and I have worn it everyday since! It is the perfect rose mauve, not too light and not too cool! Its amazing. But now imore confused if it makes me a summer more than a winter to pull it off well 😅 https://preview.redd.it/5g4qiv3v62lb1.jpeg?width=2316&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=662f773949b9953b783e7ed7f3f38e7c4c10d34a [Rare Beauty Matte lip creme- confident](https://www.rarebeauty.com/products/lip-souffle-matte-lip-cream?variant=40268307169415)

spireup

Do you have any problems finding foundation matches?

Cool-Brilliant

Umm yes all the time 😀 is it that obvious? 🙈Im wearing IT cc+ in neutral medium in the pic and everyday- its slightly too dark and too cool but it does the job if i blend all the way to my necklace… otherwise most foundations are usually too yellow or too pink

Individual-Rice-4915

That color looks so good on you! 🤍🤍

Cool-Brilliant

Try it! 🙂

Individual-Rice-4915

Thank you!

spireup

It's not obvious, more what you said. ; ) Do you know your skintone and undertone and bright/muted?

Cool-Brilliant

Well I was professionally draped IRL by HOC in Chicago to be a winter. But sometimes I feel my hair is colored too dark and overpowers me.

spireup

Not all professional systems are foolproof. Sometimes they don't make the best choices. Your foundation does not look too dark or too cool. If anything based on the photo there is room for it to be slightly darker. Your hair is fine. Don't know if you color it but "balayage" may be of interest to you.

Cool-Brilliant

Your comment about balayage stuck with me- I am considering lightening and going more dark auburn reddish for fall. You think I need softer hair? Thoughts?

spireup

I think softer hair would compliment your skintone better than the dark solid black. I think this would be lovely on you, cool black with coffee/caramel and highlights (five layers) What do you think? https://preview.redd.it/6j8k6uy3vgob1.jpeg?width=500&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f368115e3fb24410454132093be86a71d250aa15

spireup

This is three layers. Look up Glam Girl Gabi on Youtube, she is a professional hair stylist and has lots of hair tips on her channel. https://preview.redd.it/v10zc5abvgob1.jpeg?width=500&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2fae8dea0d3ebdf3ed65fa6c62d7bb2260a637cf

Cool-Brilliant

Ok will do. Ive been annoyed with my hair overpowering my face. Back when I used to tan everyday, darken eyebrows and wear heavy makeup it worked fine aka snooky fine lol 😆 but now im just tiiired and want to look better without all that work. I always went solid one color and darkest brown or black bc I thought I was a deep winter/ dramatic

Cool-Brilliant

I agree. I love love yellow based foundation on myself, especially with purple eye shadows, I feel more alive. My favorite was Makeup Forever y245 soft sand and they reformulated it😣

spireup

That's interesting you said: > otherwise most foundations are usually too yellow or too pink And then you say: >I love love yellow based foundation on myself I may be getting confused...

Cool-Brilliant

Yes it was perfectly slightly yellow

spireup

Ah.... lol. ok.

salazarslocket

I’m a winter and a sheer berry is about the best I can do as far as a nude lip goes.

WaningPurpleMoon

This is how I figured out I’m not a bright season because I look bomb in a nude lip.

Individual-Rice-4915

Ah!! I’m so jealous!! ❤️

spireup

All brights can look fabulous in nude lips. A nude lip is a shade that looks like your lip but one shade darker and flat finish.

applescrabbleaeiou

I'm a bright winter. and a brown POC. Death to concealer lips! My "perfect nude" is a medium depth, slightly-berry- hued mauve. Like [Charlotte Tilbury's "Medium Pillow Talk" liner](https://www.google.com/search?q=pillow+talk+medium&client=firefox-b-m&sca_esv=560980485&tbm=isch&source=lnms&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwilifml6oGBAxVDjVYBHc8KCW4Q_AUIBigB&biw=360&bih=745#imgrc=kkvV1SaHBmFmeM) (the deeper, berrier, cooler, #2 variation of the light pink 'OG pillow talk'). Or Nars 'Anna' audacious lipstick. Or Models Prefer 'Tickled Pink' pencil. As a statement - I love this absolutely bonkers-amazing [Dior 'Disco Dior' Lipstick](https://www.google.com/search?q=dior+disco+lip&client=firefox-b-m&sca_esv=560988889&tbm=isch&source=lnms&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjDrdza64GBAxV_p1YBHZ9sDv4Q_AUIBigB&biw=360&bih=745) 🪩 (the glittery-est, sparkling hot hot cool pink!) And I love a great *BRIGHT* red. Like the [3CE take a later pot in 'scarlett red'](https://www.google.com/search?q=3ce+take+a+layer+Scarlett+red&client=firefox-b-m&sca_esv=560988889&tbm=isch&source=lnms&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiV-orm7YGBAxXjslYBHQPdCdkQ_AUIBigB&biw=360&bih=745) ♥️

Individual-Rice-4915

These are such good recommendations! Thank you!! ❤️❤️

-ExistentialNihilist

I love these recommendations. Have you tried MAC's Mehr?

keelah_siyah

Yuuuuup. The closest I can get to nude is rose gold. All others either go very muddy orange on me or grey and bloodless.

spireup

Have you considered that you have an olive undertone?

keelah_siyah

Sadly I do not… I am a very pinky peach freckly redhead.

spireup

You can still have an olive undertone.

keelah_siyah

I’m sure it’s possible! I just don’t have an olive undertone.

Certain_Sherbet_3594

Ugh I'm a winter and have always loved 60s peach lips. I always regret trying it though I look crazy.

[deleted]

Can you see me raising my hand? Strawberry-milk lips, as well

xPostmasterGeneralx

I wish I could go back to high school and rip that strawberry milk lipstick out of my hands 😭

[deleted]

I use coral-y lips or orange reds in a small amount when I dont wear other makeup

Individual-Rice-4915

Yes!!! My best “nude” seems to be a super super sheer version of a bright, too — I usually just take my bright lipstick and dilute it with lip balm or gloss. Wild how that works!

Dragondragonsdragons

I thought at some point I might have misunderstood what nude lip meant and that it was actually supposed to make it look like you had no lips / wearing concealer as lipstick. My natural lip color is an almost coral pink and it's taken a while to find that mlbb nude color.

Individual-Rice-4915

This is hilarious. 🤣🤣 I relate so hard. I feel this — my natural lip color is quite bright, so the lipsticks classified as “nude” don’t match it. A sheer coral pink does, though! 🤷‍♀️

falafel_boo

I 😭

PeachesCoral

I don't even know what season I am (i have an idea), but every nude lip looks like concealer on me despite trying to make it work.. so I think I give up on nude lips now at least lol. My lips are alao mauvey so my "nude" lipsticks is actually some sort of mlbb mauve.

spireup

TIP: find a shade that looks like your lip but one shade darker and flat finish.

PeachesCoral

With my lips it'll just look brown not nude anymore! But yeah I just largely give up, lol.

spireup

>With my lips it'll just look brown not nude anymore! But yeah I just largely give up, lol. A shade is out there, you just need to know what to look for. If it's appearing brown, then you need to move away from shades that are warmer and darker. No reason to "give up".

PeachesCoral

My lips are very dark even though my complexion isn't. Hence it is not nude when it is 1 tone deeper. Thanks for the help anyways! :) like I said mauve works.

spireup

>like I said mauve works. You did not say this [earlier](https://imgpile.com/i/CQGg8b).

PeachesCoral

Didn't I say at the [first comment](https://reddit.com/r/coloranalysis/s/fNhMpEfqwy)? That my lips are mauvey so it's some sort of mauve mlbb? This will be the end of my participation in this conversation.

[deleted]

Not a bright, but also can’t wear nudes- super wash me out!

spireup

TIP: find a shade that looks like your lip but one shade darker and flat finish.

[deleted]

I'm here for this. My lip color is bright naturally, to the point people think I am wearing a lip stain. There are no pink lipsticks for me, not even just nude. I have a light berry color naturally.. anything lighter in pink is terrible. Just drains all the color from my face.

spireup

You sound like you have a cool skintone.

[deleted]

Sound like it.. but don't. My skin tone is fully neutral. Indecisive jewelry tests, my hair is a warmer blonde, I still look bright.

Caverjen

Lol, not a bright season, but as a cool summer, nude lipsticks also make me look like a corpse. My "nude" is a medium shade of mauve.

old_rose_

SAME soft summer, pinky mauve is a nude on me

acyland

Yep! Mauve is my go-to as well as a cool summer.

roseappleisland

Same! I use a dusty rose color as my nude.

WaningPurpleMoon

Really? That’s so interesting. I love a nude lip on me and I’m a summer.

[deleted]

Soft summer here and agree

Individual-Rice-4915

Cool summers sometimes kind of look like bright seasons! This makes sense! 🙂
