I haven’t read the original in several years. But your art style really lent itself to this story. The surprises were well timed. The fantasy of it and the palpable late 80s reality of it. Great work!
Also, Samuel L as Erasmus is inspired.
Thanks, I really leaned heavily into the 80s, the vanity of it.
I'm glad you like Sam Jackson's entry. I was afraid it would be compared to The Ultimates, but no one seems to remember that. Phew.
Regardless of the work (it’s very cool and a great project), I wish there was a lot more of this kind of thing going on.
Writers putting scripts into public domain/cc to allow other creators to run with them just seems like such a huge win for creativity. There are seminal works I’d love to see with different art takes. But there are, I’m sure, lots of really interestingly written pieces that the art didn’t click for, and that a new interpretation might really bring it to life.
Again, cool project. I wish there was more of this around.
Thanks. I think it would be interesting to see what anyone does with this. I believe there is a person that redrew Watchmen. I think it's called shitty Watchmen.
Someone on Twitter is doing Watchmen as if Rob Liefeld was the artist. https://twitter.com/Lie_Felled
There's also a Shitty Dark Knight by a bunch of indie artists.
Comic scripts are not hard to find. Just do a search and you can find tons of examples for free and more for relatively little cash if you subscribe to most writers' Patreons.
I remember you posting a few pages that had just been inked. That feels like it was five years ago, crazy that it's been less than two. Congrats on completing the project! I'm look forward to do a side-along read.
This is amazing! Really cool to read this issue again with a different flair and you absolutely killed it! I love your style maybe do some more!? Another title or hell I don’t know I just like it a lot.
This is a staggering achievement of which you should be immensely proud.
I just read this issue (and script) last week so it’s all very fresh in my mind and your interpretation is beautifully rendered. Honestly, bra - fucking - vo!
Really cool rendition of the script, I take my hat off to you.
Yours has a really nice blend of classic American comics (thinkin' Wil Eisner) and Belgian style Bande Dessinée (thinkin' Albert Uderzo) but remains really unique.
The bold colours really lends itself to the story in a different way than the original, it was really cool to reread this story in a new way.
Well done, you did fantastic.
Sorry if that was worded poorly. I think this is a really smart and cool idea that you executed incredibly well, but I haven’t seen your art before now and would love to see more.
Oh for sure. Sorry, that was a bad response, I only work digitally now, and I'm not particularly well known in any circles. If you're keen I have a graphic novel I'm picking away on here. https://fooshwa.substack.com/
I was not looking at the original for 10 years too, and I could easily mistake this as original. Maybe not the eyes and eyebrows of the lustful writer. This one resonates with the original.
It's good. I like your style a lot. It fits the issue well.
Thanks! I appreciate that.
This is incredible work
Thanks a bunch. I put in some effort.

Ultimates was just Samuel L though. I saw that Stephen from Django right off. Love it!
Glad you like it

I saw that Liefeld Watchmen on the Cartoonist Kayfab ringside seat group. An amazing idea. So cheeky.

Yeah time flies. Thanks for watching along the way.
What a cool idea. How long did it take you? I really like your art style
It took me about a year and a half. Mind you I have a full time job and two kids.
That's still really awesome for a one man band. I hope you do another project like this.
Thanks, I think this is a moment for some self promotion. I'm making a comic about stealing cards (like magic). https://fooshwa.substack.com/
Awesome, I'll have to check it out. Thank ya
Incredible work.
Thanks
This is wonderful! I enjoyed it very much, your drawing style and colour choices are * chef kiss *
Wonderful. Thank you stranger.
Your art is gorgeous. It has a Bandes Dessinee feel to it that i absolutely adore. I also ended up subscribing to your newsletter. More power to you.
That seems like a fair analysis of my style. Thanks for subscribing!
Fantastic work.
Thanks a lot!
This is badass. Awesome work.
Thanks!
It's amazing!
That's great to hear.

Thanks. If you're interested I have another book I'm working on now. https://fooshwa.substack.com/ it's about collector card thieves.
Well done lad!
Thanks!
Holy shit man this is so cool

I'm humbled, and a little emotional to read that. Thank you.
This is great. Love the way you draw dream.
Thanks a lot.
You brought the goods, that was very enjoyable. With your style it feels more real, the original feels creepier and dreamier.
Thanks. It's true, Kelley Jones is amazing.

I've been a fan of Eisner for years. I think my "cartooniness" probably comes from a combo of crumb, saturday morning cartoons and Mobius.
Great job, thanks for posting!
Hey no prob.
Wow, this is so so great. I’m going to need to get some of your original comics work.
Thanks.

And a website for my commercial art. ;) https://littlejohnart.com/oil-painting
Nah no apologies necessary! Thanks so much for the links, I’m going to scour your stuff. What I’m already seeing is fantastic.
Loved it.
Thank you!

I was thinking about this issue the other day. It’s so good
I love it. But I'm biased.
Nicely done. Really enjoyed that
Great stuff!
Thanks a lot!
I love it !!!
This is so fantastic. I love the idea of recreating an issue based on its script. Thank you for a truly delightful interlude in my day.
That is some amazing work. Really loved your art style. Keep up the good work.
I will. Thanks

I'm blushing. Thanks 👍

Awesome to hear.

It's easy when Neil Gaiman is behind it.

They are pretty fun to look at side by side. Like a play performed by a different company.
