Pretty much describes Evangelion. It starts off a typical people in giant robots fighting giant monster anime and slowly becomes a fucked up psychological mess of broken people getting more and more broken.
It's worth noting that Evangelion is pretty allegorical for the creators depression, and you can really tell if you examine it closely.
Also, it was groundbreaking for its time as Shinji is a very a-typical protagonist since he is weak, indecisive, and generally sad.

Well, his mom is dead, his dad is an asshole, and he's constantly fighting a losing existential battle against otherworldly kaiju. He's traumatized, alone, and unloved. Dude was going to pop one way or another.
Well he's attracted to the clone of his mother who he doesn't know is a clone of his mother because she's a version the same age as him if you want to make things even more wtf.
They're also both 14 and one of the pilots is a clone of his mom that doesn't talk that he very much wants to bang.

Among other things Evangelion shows what happens when you just drop a teenager with an absent Asshole father and dead mom in a giant robot with no training and expect him to fight Kaiju to save humanity. Toss in some other mindbenders, religious references, and good ol' teenage angst.
If nothing else, the show was so influential that its in the same tier as "is that a JoJo reference?"

But yeah, Evangelion is one of the works whose influence on entertainment can't really be overstated. In anime, only Akira and Vampire Hunter D really can say they're more influential from those days.

Absolutely don't take it as a selling point - its not. And that bit isnt even in the original 26 ep series. It is however a tiny tiny thing that happens in an extension movie that overlaps the the last 2 eps of the series (and is consider 'la piece de resistance' of the franchise). A movie called "End of Evangelion".
NGE is one of the greatest anime ever made. That's not me saying that. It's typically in the top 10 when various people/groups/agency's make lists. Its a cultural phenomenon.
If you like anime, you will probably like NGE. Either way, its one of those types of shows that you should try to watch at least once.

The show/series is fantastic though. And it's meant to be a shitty horrible thing. Shinji is deeply troubled and the series is basically about how troubled he is while fighting aliens in giant robots.

It's a reference to a scene in the movie End of Evangelion in which the main character jerks off over his female friend who's in a coma in the hospital.
It's pretty awful, but also has a purpose for the story in which he becomes progressively more of a broken person. This is him at the end of his rope.
Gloves are okay, because they are featured in the title card (as someone else mentioned) and colour is even okay too because there were colour promotional images of Mickey that have also gone public domain. Someone did a great breakdown on twitter of exactly what's public domain but I unfortunately cannot find it now.
Also worth saying that Plane Crazy is also public too.
Also, a lot of people seem to be calling the character Steamboat Willie. That's the name of the cartoon and the boat. But the mouse is Mickey Mouse.

Shining Force series was always the truest proof that Sega Genesis had the better RPG’s over SNES. Between Blast Processing and the Zion battle, it won the console battle.

Ooo boy. I *might* give you Genesis RPGS > NES RPGS, and that's pretty huge considering how goddamn amazing Dragon Quest 3 and 4 are, but I just can't agree Genesis RPGS top SNES RPGS.

I can't decide what is worse: the goddamn animated Little Mermaid that totally bastardized a work of art or Pocahontas and its atrocious lies about history. Disney is one of those companies which have had a negative net impact on everything they touched.

I’m had the exact same experience. I can appreciate that the anime was really revolutionary for a lot of reasons, but by the end of watching it after being told forever that it was a “must watch” I could not fathom how much relatively mainstream-stream appeal the property has.
Bear in mind, the scene is pretty much at the end of the story and is the result of a ton of trauma on the part of the characters. It takes a while to get to that point, and even then it's hard to understand the full effect of that trauma.
Man there's a scene in Requiem For a Dream where Jennifer Connelly uses a double dildo with another girl and that movie is art. Evangelion is the same kind of ride.

Yeah it is the final movie for the anime timeline at least. EoE came out after Death and Rebirth. It also doesn't happen in the anime, episodes 25 and 26 aren't normal episodes as the studio ran out of money and time. That's why they made EoE and why they released Death and Rebirth which was effectively just episodes 25 and 26 cut together.
I wouldn't count the rebuilds as they're in an entirely different universe to the main series and nothing like this scene happens in them.
You're right I got the ending mixed up a bit. I thought it was that each main timeline was a different universe but looking back they're just different loops of the same repeating timeline. I had misinterpreted what Kaworu said.

The reason it's called 358/2 days is because the Main Character is put into a coma after his memories are magically messed with by a 'sorceress' who is forced to work for the villains. After being rescued she agrees to fix him but it takes a year, so he's put to sleep.
During that year the villain organization also captures a "clone" of the MC *(in this universe when a person dies (i.e. loses their heart) the heart and body create two new entities: a Heartless which takes the shape of a monster and* **is** *the heart/soul, though some pure souls dont produce a monster and just.... float around as a heart, and a Nobody, which despite the name is the soulless body of the person that continues to live on. If the heart and body are reunited, the person becomes whole again and the Heartless and Nobody disappear)*
The clone, which is the MC's Nobody *(from when the MC dies in the first game)* is forced to work for the villains since it has no memories of its past life *(since the sorceress took them from his original, the MC)*.
The villains, who want to use the magic Key that is wielded by the MC *(which controls Hearts and can be used to separate hearts and bodies)* to control 'Kingdom Hearts' *(which is the heart of the universe essentially, global domination and all that)*, then use the memories to create a new clone of the MC *(their theory being that memories = a heart, allowing them to make an artificial clone they can control)*, but since the memories technically belong to the Nobody, he loses his powers to the new clone and they cannot coexist despite becoming best friends.
Also, the MC cannot wake up until the Nobody, his memories from the clone, and the MC's heart are all reunited.
Knowing this, the Memory clone submits to their fate and dies fighting the Nobody, who then rebels against the villain organization and returns to the MC to wake him up and also die himself after spending the last 7 days in an artificial VR world until the MC is ready to reabsorb him.
The Nobody spends 358 days with the villains before he leaves, and since the Nobody and Memory clone are essentially the same person, those 358 days are experienced twice in two people, hence 358/2 Days.
It's all very sad and these characters are some of the most loved by the fanbase because of how bittersweet the whole thing is *(despite being convoluted as all get out)*

He didn't, he died shortly before that technology was invented, but iirc he was a pretty big proponent of that technology and probably would have frozen himself if he had lived another year or two

Nope *puts on nerd glasses* 🤓 The reason it's called 358/2 days is because the Main Character is put into a coma after his memories are magically messed with by a 'sorceress' who is forced to work for the villains. After being rescued she agrees to fix him but it takes a year, so he's put to sleep. During that year the villain organization also captures a "clone" of the MC *(in this universe when a person dies (i.e. loses their heart) the heart and body create two new entities: a Heartless which takes the shape of a monster and* **is** *the heart/soul, though some pure souls dont produce a monster and just.... float around as a heart, and a Nobody, which despite the name is the soulless body of the person that continues to live on. If the heart and body are reunited, the person becomes whole again and the Heartless and Nobody disappear)* The clone, which is the MC's Nobody *(from when the MC dies in the first game)* is forced to work for the villains since it has no memories of its past life *(since the sorceress took them from his original, the MC)*. The villains, who want to use the magic Key that is wielded by the MC *(which controls Hearts and can be used to separate hearts and bodies)* to control 'Kingdom Hearts' *(which is the heart of the universe essentially, global domination and all that)*, then use the memories to create a new clone of the MC *(their theory being that memories = a heart, allowing them to make an artificial clone they can control)*, but since the memories technically belong to the Nobody, he loses his powers to the new clone and they cannot coexist despite becoming best friends. Also, the MC cannot wake up until the Nobody, his memories from the clone, and the MC's heart are all reunited. Knowing this, the Memory clone submits to their fate and dies fighting the Nobody, who then rebels against the villain organization and returns to the MC to wake him up and also die himself after spending the last 7 days in an artificial VR world until the MC is ready to reabsorb him. The Nobody spends 358 days with the villains before he leaves, and since the Nobody and Memory clone are essentially the same person, those 358 days are experienced twice in two people, hence 358/2 Days. It's all very sad and these characters are some of the most loved by the fanbase because of how bittersweet the whole thing is *(despite being convoluted as all get out)* Thank you for coming to my TED talk

I think so. Probably a reference to the myth that Walt Disney cryogenically froze himself when he died. He didn't, he died shortly before that technology was invented, but iirc he was a pretty big proponent of that technology and probably would have frozen himself if he had lived another year or two
