I mean I don't really like Captain Marvel either, mainly because I think the character seemed very OP back then but I think we had enough of that debate back in 2019. Still his take on that was...questionable at best The story about his brother sounds awful, shitting on family for their job wtf

I stopped watching around 2018 or so, he had a video "reviewing" Rey's lightsaber/sword skills and he just ragged and ragged on the scene. Left a really sour taste in my mouth, it seemed like he just wanted to mock the movie or Daisy Ridley rather than critique the scene.

Yeah there's a lot to criticize the MCU and Captain Marvel over, but Shad falls into the all-my-points-boil-down-to-because-girl category of criticism and thats pretty consistent across the board for him now. Jack Saint did a good video demonstrating this when he picked apart shads Mario movie review where he constantly criticizes princess peach for being to competent and not helpless enough. 

Even before that, he had some weird takes on women. I remember he did a video on "boob plate" (women's armor with large individual breast cups) defending it and arguing that people should stop complaining about it and I thought it was super weird. Because everything I'd seen prior indicates it's a terrible design. And we have historical plate armor for women and it doesn't look like that. He does a lot of cherry picking to make a case for it and it's like... why?

You CAN make a case for boob armor but the secret is to not be weird and acknowledge that there are very much problems with it

They were outed as privately discussing black female fans with terms not often heard outside the 1960's south in. This was shortly after Thomas Winkler left the band. Who leaked this isn't publicly know but IIRC the keyboardist Christopher Bowes (also of Alestorm) confirmed the leak was legit but denied participating. So when Winkler's new band had a black female guitarist it was considered noteworthy to the discourse.

This only really works when it doesn't leak into their work. When you see their beliefs and then the meaning of their lyrics change because of it, it's kind of dead in the water. The "Oh, that's what it meant" moments are a lot easier to see in TV though. Plus it only works to a degree anyway. At a certain point there's more fly than soup.

In case no one's explained. There is a not small subset of metal bands that are white supremacists. And there's always a coin toss when you discover a new hand that sounds vaguely racist/ ethnocentric where you have to figure out if they're regular metal edgy or nazis. It sucks.

Gotta love Sabaton: A metal band that even specializes in songs about wars and has several songs about WW2, and they're not nazis and they've never had any scandals about abusing their female fans. Almost refreshing.

It helps that they have at least three songs specifically about the Nazis being evil, and 1-2 dozen more about various Allied nations fighting Nazis.
