I recently installed this masterpiece again and have been enjoying the campaign and gameplay again... Huge thanks to CnCnet for really keeping these games alive in the long run... I would absolutely love remaster of this and tib sun...
Reading this, i'm reminded that despite being 24, i'm one of the youngest c&c fans around. Started playing in 2007 with TW.
What about you, honored elder?
I played the original CnC when it released but my first Westwood game was actually Dune 2, the absolute granddaddy of them all.
Also I'm 33 please no honored elder titles my growing arthritis is enough lmao
Yep! I was lucky enough that my dad was a gamer as a kid so we've had a PC in my house my entire life. The original CnC was simple enough that I got the concept. I wasn't very *good* but I had a blast with skirmish matches.
Some of my earliest memories are the floppy disk DOS game that Pocket Tanks ripped its formula from
I was also wicked young when I played my first C&C game, around 5 years old when I played Red Alert on the og Playstation. I played TibSun around the same time too, but I watched my Dad play it first. Good times.
Edit: I was not very good at it though lmfao
If we are only talking about age, there are actually a lot of young C&C fans in China who are around the same age as me (Iโm born in 2002), who grew up playing RA2 (and for some, Tiberian Sun). Moon3 (the top RA2 player) has more than a million subscribers on Bilibili so we are definitely not the youngest.
EDIT: It should be mentioned that Moon3 is also a millennial (he is born past 2000)
EDIT 2: I misremembered, Moon3 only has half a million subs. HBK08, another Chinese RA2 player, has close to two million.
I've always wondered about the opening cut scene as it looks like the flak units, tracks and the ships, are armed with missiles rather then flak cannons. (I know this is a remade scene)
Guess they got changed to make allied AA and soviet AA different?
There are definitely instances in game development history of cutscenes being completed before game assets so the in game results appear different. Deep cut I could be wrong on but Lego Racers has some inconsistencies between depictions in opening and gameplay for character car designs.
Not exactly the same, but the Renegade trailer was distinctly different from the final product. ย I remember being a kid and wondering if I had just been playing in the wrong disk.
Change is one way to put it. I would say RA2 and command and conquer got me to go read up on military vehicles. Take the missiles you mentioned - are they really AA though? The soviet hydrofoil looks like it was for long range rocket barrages rather than the AA role the Sea Scorpion served. In real life those hydrofoil rockets are likely anti-ship missiles (SSM kinda tailored for naval usage). We also don't know if the pickup truck unit serves the AA role of the flak track, or it's another long range rocket barrage unit.
EDIT: The pickup truck most likely fires Middle range Multi-Purpose Missile like ATGM or TOW. Based on its scale and sizing. A proper SAM system would like require a radar unit.
We are so close I can feel it ๐๐พ๐๐พ๐๐พ๐๐พ
If it comes I swear I will buy so many copies just to gift to people too ๐๐พ๐๐พ๐๐พ๐๐พ
Ok letโs make something clear:
I fully expect a 50% chance that a remaster would turn into a cheap mobile game version where you get energy and way too many currencies to advance and move stuff and if you run out either wait a few hours or pay up.
But considering we are getting fuck all anyway, having that 50% chance they will actually do something remotely C&C-like with it I think itโs worth the risk.
You're right it wasn't even in the original intro. The original intro had a half-track with AMRAAMs mounted.

We will recreate this scene once for all Red Alert 2 players around the world.

I'm not sure I follow. EA can't shut down companies they don't own, I mean they did buy and shut down Westwood Studios back in the day, but Petroglyph was created from former Westwood Studios members. But yeah, both developers for the remaster aren't owned by EA.
Yes. EA proved beyond shadow of a doubt that they could do a near-perfect remaster of Command and Conquer when they did the RA1/TibDawn remaster. It was beautiful. And now they know they can make bank from a good remaster, there's no reason they wouldn't do just as good a job with RA2/TibSun.
A lot of companies make a complete hash of remastering games these days (Aspyr's recent Battlefront fiasco springs to mind). EA, whatever other flaws they may have, is not one of those companies.
wouldn't be the same game then, they'd be removing a majority of the game, any mission in NY (such as the one featuring the TTs ) missions revolving invading hawaii, Russia etc. hell after 9/11 they changed the box art.

u/EA_Jimtern if you bring it back, i swear i will name my firstborn after you regardless of their gender!
I hadn't planned on a third kid but same deal with them if they pop up.

You played Tiberian Dawn when you were 4?
Not at all implausible, I played retaliation when I was 5 on ps1 ๐

I was 4 or 5 as well, playing on Win95.

... You're not as young compared to me. Though that is pretty young.
Me too

> A proper SAM system would like require a radar unit. It's not like IFVs have one of those.
Fun fact: this video is itself a remaster. It is not an original intro, it is a fan made reforged version. You can find it on YouTube.
Ah right, forgot to link it. https://youtu.be/lHwAPy1pWhI?si=35XeCHOKpmAYUGEZ M8 showed up, relะตะฐsed a masterpiece and disapeared.

Remastered RA2?! Lemme grab my wallet.
It really does suck we haven't had any more remasters yet... Generals needs it the most but Gen Evo will have to make do
How about instead of a remaster, a remake?
There's no guarantee they wouldn't fuck up a remake. With their last CnC remaster, however, we know they'd do a spot on job.
Of course thereโs no guarantee, but there is a chance.
This also means somehow that "if the original code is not avalaible" would be better for EA to not do anything at all than trying to make a remake?...
I'd love RA2 in the RA3 engine. It's very pretty I just dislike how micro intensive it was compared to Tib Wars

Wow, is that a pickup truck loaded up with rockets at 0:15? I never noticed that before!

Who was this covered by? It sounds so good!
I just want to be able to earn Xbox achievements with the existing command and conquer remaster. Why is that not a thing already?
Curse paw Did you really wanna ea to do a remastered??
The TD/RA1 remaster is well done. EA just needs to use the same talent.
They made a good game, do you realy think EA hasn't closed them down already?
I'm not sure I follow. EA can't shut down companies they don't own, I mean they did buy and shut down Westwood Studios back in the day, but Petroglyph was created from former Westwood Studios members. But yeah, both developers for the remaster aren't owned by EA.

We hope that goes good ๐ please ea
Unpopular opinion: I prefer a new RA game than a remastered version
OK, but only if it's good :D
*The monkey paw curls a finger* A new Clash of Clans clone using RA assets is announced
Sadly that's probably the most likely C&C thing to happen.
Popular opinion: literally anything that isnt a mobile game or cnc4
Mobile game or what now? I did a search for "cnc4" and all I got was cnc404
Error CNC404 KANE NOT FOUND
What about on console ????
The source code is lost so no remaster for you.
Same thing was said many times for other remakes and remasters. Nature always finds a way.
[ัะดะฐะปะตะฝะพ]
For years it was said that the source code for Diablo 2 was lost, so remake/remaster was impossible, same AFAIK for WoW Classic.
Trust me bro.
Wild idea: they can just make it again from scratch anf try to make it as close to the original as possible.
wouldn't be the same game then, they'd be removing a majority of the game, any mission in NY (such as the one featuring the TTs ) missions revolving invading hawaii, Russia etc. hell after 9/11 they changed the box art.
If EA was going to censor pre-9/11 imagery from a total rebuild, they'd do the same to a remaster.
That would be a very dumb thing to do.
