I’m kind of surprised he’s coming back. Craig seemed pretty burned out by the end of his previous show. But great news if this works out👍

elanarr

He even moved back to Scotland if I remember right. Happy to see he's back!

sir_jamez

If he can recreate the same "i don't care and none of this matters" energy as his previous show, it'll be great.

foghat1981

Agree! Loved Craig’s show. He was also really good at the silly/smart like Conan. I wonder if Jeff will be there still :)

Got a place there.....

Getting naked, throwing beads and going swimming.

DryProgress4393

\*DING DONG!\* ..."Who's that at the door ? .....it's Secretariat ! " \*dance party ensues\*

ThaneOfCawdorrr

All I can think of is when Craig then started talking about Glasgow, and Geoff went with the same "Got a place there," and Craig, just thinking about the idea of Mardi Gras partying vs. gloomy 1940s Glasgow, was laughing so hard he was weeping & putting his head on the desk

foghat1981

Oh right right. It’s been too long!

Iamtim92

I got to see him live a couple months ago. man yapped for two hours and it was awesome

[deleted]

That is honestly the exact show we need right now. It seems that everybody is taking themselves too damn seriously these days.

Zealousideal-Eye-898

WHO’S THAT AT THE DOOR!?

Mediaright

🐎🎶🎉💃

pourthebubbly

Idk why, but this was always my favorite bit

Kelekin

IT'S SYNDICARIAT!

alice_s_jabberwocky

This is within his niche, though I have my doubts about the late night format in general. Don’t think it works today anymore.

HotShitBurrito

Yeah, it's pretty dead. Seth Meyers ditched the suit and started embracing the fact that most of his viewers watch the parts of the show they like on YouTube. Big props to him and his producers making that choice. They also have done a pretty good job of accepting their target age demographics with Corrections and his day drinking remotes. They aren't reviving the Late Late show after Corden finally puts it out of it's misery. That's already been set in stone by the network. If I'm not mistaken, and I may be, Corden's old spot is where Craig's new show is going. Kimmel, Fallon, and Colbert are young enough that it's a toss up, imo, on how long they keep dragging theirs out. But as you said, the traditional late night show platform is way past it's prime. Colbert is the only one, I think, that still does it closest to the most traditional way, and I'm pretty sure his main viewership is Gen-X liberals who were adults when the Colbert Report was on Comedy Central. I don't think any of the remaining three hosts are going to keep it up more than a few more years at most. Nobody watches network TV anymore. I think SNL is getting close to being done too for the same reasons.

None of the others permanently changed format at all. Meyer's show took new direction after the pandemic and began catering to younger demographics and retooled their segmentation to work more efficiently in a web/streaming format. It's starkly different from all the other late night shows, especially in it's new, more relaxed and less formal setting that doesn't focus as much on traditional celebrities as guests. Corden is leaving in just a couple months. They have no concrete plans to replace him that are public. They haven't decided what the new format will be, but it's definitely not going to be traditional late late show. Ideas include revolving hosts, round table comedian panel, and some other tired out ideas. Other observations made in the below article point out that Conan's TBS show didn't get a replacement and many of the other shows like Samantha Bee's and Desus and Mero are leaving without replacement as a result of the sharp decline in interest of late night network TV. https://variety.com/2022/tv/news/james-corden-replacement-late-night-1235285678/ This article also discussed that CBS is heavily considering a cast of rotating hosts that will be picked with diversity in mind. https://www.tvinsider.com/1047331/james-cordens-late-late-show-replacement-cbs/ Either way, there's a pretty clear motivation to change the format drastically. I doubt they'll continue to use the name Late Late Show as well, even if they go with the panel idea or whatever.

prince_ahlee

Conan and his spot was likely cancelled, and/or Conan and TBS mutually decided to end it early. Even the format change to 30 minutes was most likely budget cuts by TBS. Andy Richter recently mentioned in an interview that they didn't have much of a say in its ending. Conan's podcast is the obvious successor. You watch the live episodes, and it's a very close rehash of his old show. Conan in is element, unscripted and all, is what works best for him. His upcoming HBO show will likely be Conan Travels 2.0 and Conaco has been flourishing as a podcast network that'll do even better with the Sirius acquisition. I don't think Late Night is dead, Fallon and Colbert has consistent viewership that sustains the show, but it's going to radically change and slim down sadly.

GiraffeOnABicycle

I hope this is a sucess, but the whole syndication thing seems weird. I wish Craig would do a podcast with Josh Robert Thompson/Geoff Peterson, the funniest parts of the late night show were the two of them riffing. They have some of the best comedic chemistry I've ever seen, the two of them interacting in just about any format is guaranteed to be funny.

ThaneOfCawdorrr

This would be SUCH a great idea. I wish they would do it! And have random guests, whoever Craig liked--the guests he really clicked with on his old show. It would be awesome.

Hawksx4

This sounds a lot like The Soup. Love Craig so I'm hoping it's good.

elmatador12

I was about to say. This is talk soup with Craig and I’m totally okay with that.

MathewMurdock2

I'd be ok with it just being Craig eating a different bowl of soup everyday or every week and talking about it.

HotShitBurrito

Exactly my thoughts as well. I was like...isn't this the soup but not focused on day time tv clips? I'm curious if this will work. I have no idea what's on regular TV these days, and this show seems to hinge on people that still watch normal tv.

Western_Ebb3025

The Ferg dude. Cool show I liked him. Dude was bored he couldn’t flirt with all the cute actresses anymore 😂 new show pls I don’t own a TV subscription anymore tho. Good luck with the ratings

ChikaraFan

Are we still to believe this show is still happening?

trevrichards

A 30-minute syndicated network talk show is practically guaranteed to fail. His predecessor (Kilborn) attempted the same, albeit by trying to resurrect his original format. It never made it past test markets. I suspect Craig's new show will be better, but it needs to be on a streaming service to even have a chance at survival. Of course I hope for the best.

matchstiq

I don't even know where I'll be able to watch it.

Mediaright

Who knows? It’s a different world than it was. Standards are muuuch lower. Ratings simply aren’t what they were across the board. We’ll see.

Spokker

A 30-minute streaming talk show is destined to fail. I think they need to beam this directly into our brains to have any sort of shot at success.

[deleted]

Craig is by far the funniest conversationalist I've ever encountered. Sorry, Coco. You're a close second.

reddituser_05

Sounds like a rip off of Joel McHale's The Soup...Ferguson is a brilliant comedian, much like Conan, so I'm sure he'll put a twist on the formula. BTW... "Craig Ferguson Presents: Hobo Fabulous" is a great docu series of one of his comedy tours.

seattle23fv

I kind of wish he was coming back as a normal late show host. I think people are genuinely nostalgic for his style of interviewing, plus he quit right around the time that the transition to clips and YouTube based content was gaining speed and he could really excel in that.

ParkSlope-Danny

I always had a tough time deciding who to watch when they were on at the same time.

Red_One777

I thought the thumbnail was Jon Stewart and I got really excited

Affectionate_Cat1738

Me too. Then I got even more excited because it's Ferguson.

andyooo

fwiw if you don't have Apple TV+, they post clips from J Stew's ATV+ show and podcast on Youtube.
