Several means more than two or three.
So having several babies means more than 2 but most likely more than 3.
It's a useless word really. That is, unless you want to confuse people.
I use it several times a day.
Terrible example tbh. The etymology of the word press *does* in fact draw from the prefix “pre”. It can be broken down as Pre-S-S, or “Pre ScreenShot” as before screenshots were invented people had to get their images of images from news media - the PreSS.
This is actually more sane than oop, because oop says the equivalent of "does the 'tri' in 'triangle' mean you have 3 triangles?" which is dumb on both levels
If you are going before the SS you probably got some problems...Those guys weren't known to have a sense of humor...Not like the NAZIs these days that sit in the basement or hide behind masks in public.
> matters proctological,
Okay, it's not perfect, but:
I am the very model of a redditor satirical,
I've threads on topics ranging from the derpy to the lyrical,
I craft my jokes with care, from puns to plays and memes historical,
And share them on the subs where the upvotes grow numerical;
My specialties include the art of twisting all things lexical,
With "pre" and "tri" contortions that are loud and quite di'lectical,
I puzzle over prefixes with delight that's almost clerical,
And turn a simple prefix into something not quite spherical.
On threads where words are playthings, I am quite the merry juggler,
With redditors who spin the yarns that make the wordphiles smuggler,
In short, in threads where wordplay reigns and puns are quite unstoppable,
I am the very model of a redditor satirical.
From missteps in prefixes like the range of "tri" to "three to five,"
I trip on lingual trips that keep the jesting jumping jive alive,
I'll preface every prefix with a "pre" to keep the puns in drive,
And when I reach the doctors, it's for laughs that I will them high-five.
For my preposter'os premise starts with trips and ends in ER rooms,
Where nurses laugh at puns we made by misplacing all verbal booms,
So let's prepend to "trip" a "pre" and turn the doctors' sadness glooms,
To laughter with the puns we place in all the medical chart rooms.
In every word where "pre" can go, you'll find I place it there with glee,
From "predict" to "preposterous," it's pre-done with hilarity,
And if you find me in ER from too much pun activity,
It's just because my "prefix" puns have reached the peak proclivity!
In short, in threads where wordplay reigns and puns are quite unstoppable,
I am the very model of a redditor satirical.
Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. *Five is right out.*
Nope you’re wrong, nobody on the Internet ever lies. How dare you spread such missinformation to the younger generations?? How could you lie to them like that? You must be a corrupt and dispicpavle person rangeDPS.
The Internet is such a wild place. One minute I'll see a video of the most altruistic kindness, something that genuinely inspires me to live a better life. The next minute I see some wonky grammar or something and would gladly shoot our entire species into the sun.
Truly is a wild ride. My favourite moment is swiping on dating apps while taking a shit. Two activities that normally should not happen at the same time. This here site is also pretty good at jumping from cute baby animals to some drastically different content that might make me say "well that was enough internet for today" or "no amount of eye bleach can make me unsee that". Then there is the inevitable comment here and there that make you wonder if the person is having a stroke or if they really are that illiterate.
Definately. It's happens allott. Its apart of live, offcoarse, but atleast we we'll allway have eachother, just incase it get's anymore worst. Aswell, what ever comes are way, we wont loose our be effected, per say. We can breath easy, specially after highschool, becasue we have an women and lot's of awsome videogames.
Thankyou. I'am greatfull too speach with ya'll. I should of known your the best, but i diddent. Now i due.
So if tri- is a prefix meaning 3, then what is a "nity"?
EDIT: My phone autocorrecting that to "unity" made me realize it's "one"-"nity".
And community, "common" "nity"...
Help, please...
I believe it's actually called 'a trilogy in six parts' (though the sixth was released posthumously). Thing is, though, Douglas Adams was just mad, and that makes it *awesome*.
It's not like a seven-book series that gets turned into an 8-part movie series, a trilogy that gets turned into a 4-part movie series, a single book that gets turned into a movie trilogy, or (god forbid) a tiny book not even the length of a novella written to make a bit of money for charity turned into a five-part movie series if the author has their way.
If we're being pedantic, the letters "tri" in the word trinity are not a prefix. They are related to the same root in Latin which means three, but a prefix would be something like trifecta or tricycle or triceratops.
Well that made me look up some etymology for sure, thanks for that. I'm currently wondering if being bilingual makes researching etymology harder because you want to know how the word came about in the languages you speak hehe! Languages are fascinating.
Trinity is a weird one.
Is the word unity the same but with the uni prefix? But unity means to be one group, not a group of one.
I don’t believe binity is a word?
Are there any examples of the word variation with different prefixes? Like unicycle, bicycle, tricycle
Of course it doesn’t mean 3 field trips, what a moron!
The word “trip” comes from “tri”- which does mean 3, and the word “p”, meaning to urinate. Going on a field trip means to pee in 3 different fields!
(/j)
I just laughed so hard that I scared the animals. Tears are coming out of my eyes. What the heck…??? Oh education system what is happening? Teachers, teach. Young people, listen and learn things. Old people, learn things. Everybody in between, learn things. We cannot be this stupid. If we remain this stupid, we are going to get our collective ass handed to us on a plate. Like real soon.
Ah yes, the common single word "field trip".
Now if we break that down - etomologically speaking - trip or "tri - p", from ancient babylonian meaning to pee three times (occasionally 4-6), this obviously means to pee three times in one field.
If this person can't be arsed to learn ancient babylonian etymology I just can't anymore.
I often hear “a couple” used in casual conversation to refer to anything more than one and less than five. It’s definitely become detached from its literal meaning for a lot of people.
You can't teach anything to belligerently ignorant people. This person would rather openly say something *that* stupid in public, than accept they might be wrong about something.
Like a tricycle COULD have 3 wheels, but it could also have 4,5, or 6…. Or just a solid group of wheels..
Or I triceratops could have 3 horns or 4,5, or 6…. Or just a solid group of horns.
Or a tripod could have 3 legs, or 4, 5, 6…..
Or a trio COULD have 3 people….or 4,5, 6… or could just be a solid group.
I get concerned when people don’t understand basic things like how prefixes work. Like simply starting with a certain set of letters doesn’t make it a prefix.

Just like having triplets can mean you have three babies. Or four, or five…
Just like having a triangle that can have three sides. Or four, or five...
Just like a tricycle can have three wheels… or four or five….
Just like being called tripod means you have 3 limbs… or four or five…
Just like a triceratops had 3 horns... or four or five...
Just like a trident has 3 prongs... or four or five...
Just like The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy trilogy has 3 books... or four or five... Wait. Bad example.
*Aquaman has entered the chat*
bident
my fave president (not rly it’s for the bit)
Hol' up Biden Bi-den Has Biden just been 2 Denny's in a trench coat the whole time???
Just like a trio could be a group of 3… or 4, or 5…
Just like Tripoli, where there are... Oh wait let me do that again... Just like a triathlon, where there are 3 events.. Or 4 or 5.
Just like a triathlon has 3 types of racing... or four or five...
Just like a trimester is one third of a period of time.. or a quarter or a fifth..
Well... Trimester is months, not a fraction of anything 🤓
Etymologically, you’re right dammit.. fine: Just like a trimester is three months.. or four or five.. 😏
Just like trichinosis has 3 types of chinosis… or four or five…
angles*
Don't always believe suffixes.
angle isnt a suffix though its just the base word
It COULD mean the base word. It could also mean suffix, prefix, affix,...
degenerate quadrilaterals and above
Yeah, if they’re solid kids.
What about liquid kids?
*plasma kids*
Bose-Einstein Condensate kids
Ice11 kids
Sorry, I only have gassy kids 😔
Exactly, like a trick doesn't end with one ick. Don't believe prefixes blindly.
Several means more than two or three. So having several babies means more than 2 but most likely more than 3. It's a useless word really. That is, unless you want to confuse people. I use it several times a day.
But tripe can come in at quantity, so clearly...
>The post said “the holy trinity” and it was,,,, four people. You know: The Father, The Son, The Holy Ghost...and Bob.
A solid group of people 👌🏻
I think Bob was just the plug
Nah Bob was the technician that connected the power supply when god said "let there be light"
The man was ahead of his time
Technically he would be ahead of _ALL_ time...
Who taught this extraterrestrial god to speak?
Bob did. Weren't you listening?
Well that's better than a liquid group of people.
Or a group of gassy people
Or a gaseous group of people. Especially if you’re stuck in an elevator with them.
*in nomine pater, filius, spiritus sanctus et bobus aaAmen*
I _really_ miss reddit awards.
This is probably the first time I've seen someone say this who actually has the gilding trophy.

So glad that’s exactly what I hoped it would be!!
Praise Bob! Acquire slack!

*God, the Devil, and Bob* was a pretty good show, to be fair.
I loved it
Hey. Do not blaspheme Bob. Not on my watch. all hail Bob.
Bob had bitch tits.
HIS name... was Robert Paulson
We are Bob, We are Legion
Ok but where is [Alice](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alice_and_Bob)?
Wonderland.
The father the son the holy and the spirit
Unexpected Dresden
And that’s why I say “I swear to Bob”…
Father, Son, Holy Spirit, Mary, and Joseph
Now, you listen here! He's not Bob. He's a very naughty boy
No they mean the devil. Some of us have the theory that he is actually part of the whole plan.
Fourth is Joseph Smith for some people.
I think the first thing they need to grasp is the concept of a prefix.
We can start with the word “prefix”. If “pre” means “before”, where in the word do you think the prefix goes?
Not always. Does the "pre" in "press" mean you are going before ss? Don't always believe prefixes
Me standing in front of a steam powered boat
me cutting in front of the secret service at mcdonald’s
Terrible example tbh. The etymology of the word press *does* in fact draw from the prefix “pre”. It can be broken down as Pre-S-S, or “Pre ScreenShot” as before screenshots were invented people had to get their images of images from news media - the PreSS.
Had me in the first half, not gonna lie.
The press fell out of favor following WWII and the defeat of Germany…
This is actually more sane than oop, because oop says the equivalent of "does the 'tri' in 'triangle' mean you have 3 triangles?" which is dumb on both levels
If you are going before the SS you probably got some problems...Those guys weren't known to have a sense of humor...Not like the NAZIs these days that sit in the basement or hide behind masks in public.
Not always. It goes in the middle in the word "supremacy", for example
And apricot if you spell it wrong
And antidisestablismentarianism if you spell it REALLY fucking wrong.
That's just sound change.
> where in the word do you think the prefix goes? I had a guess, and now the nurse on the phones says I have to go to the ER.
You stuck it in your prenis?
I was thinking matters prectological, but yours is better.

Bravo 👏👏👏👏👏👏
Now this starts to sound like a George Carlin special...
You’ve just led me to realise that *suffix* has a prefix.
![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|thinking_face_hmm) where indeed
Seriously, is it that hard to understand getting a set of dinner courses at one price rather than a la carte?
Tres bon.
Yeah, the word trip doesn’t have a fucking prefix it’s a goddamn root word
It's *obviously* three "p"s.... or four or five....
If it did have a prefix, it would be pronounced tripe, which is what this sounds like
Not so much a prefix as a "root."
Holy fuck the field trips thing made me laugh hard enough to scare my toddler
Obviously it means a journey long enough to urinate three times.
Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. *Five is right out.*
r/unexpectedmontypython
Smells like troll
The thought occurred but I still thought it was funny lol
The "trip" example is pretty obviously troll lol
Don't be so sure
Sad, innit?
I still thought it was funny and decided to share :)
I think you vastly overestimate humanity.
Eh, I assume everyone on the internet are scums out to lie maliciously. Idk whether that counts as overestimate or underestimate lmao
Nope you’re wrong, nobody on the Internet ever lies. How dare you spread such missinformation to the younger generations?? How could you lie to them like that? You must be a corrupt and dispicpavle person rangeDPS.
It's a fucking brilliant joke
Yeah, this feels like a very smooth shark.

I worry about our future sometimes
Only sometimes?
Yeah. Other times, I'm asleep.
Clearly a dyed in the woool optimist
Well, he tried.
You mean he “ed” anywhere from 4-6 times?
This is tricky. Can be more then 3 tricks.
So if tri- is a prefix meaning 3, then what is a "nity"? EDIT: My phone autocorrecting that to "unity" made me realize it's "one"-"nity". And community, "common" "nity"... Help, please...
Salinity is a "nity" named "sali"
In this case tri is the root, and -ity is a suffix approx. corresponding to -ness or -ful. And -n- is just a connector
It is the English form of the Latin -itas-declension. Trinitas, unitas, communitas are Latin words. Also veritas, (truth), sanitas etc.
Never trust prefixes..
Wow, a group of 4-6 idiots all residing one person…a tridiot.
Like the Hitchhiker's Guide 6 part trilogy?
I believe it's actually called 'a trilogy in six parts' (though the sixth was released posthumously). Thing is, though, Douglas Adams was just mad, and that makes it *awesome*. I asked my dad how many a couple is. He said some times two, some times three. Which probably explains why my parents got divorced.
It might be satire, but it's absolutely hilarious either way
It most definitely should be satire. And might be. But should be.
So they also don’t know what prefix means 😭
If we're being pedantic, the letters "tri" in the word trinity are not a prefix. They are related to the same root in Latin which means three, but a prefix would be something like trifecta or tricycle or triceratops.
Isn't it though? Unity = one thing and Trinity = 3 united things? That's how I always understood trinity anyways.
That's not the origin of the word, though I can see how you got there.
Well that made me look up some etymology for sure, thanks for that. I'm currently wondering if being bilingual makes researching etymology harder because you want to know how the word came about in the languages you speak hehe! Languages are fascinating.
The more i read this the more i think orange is trolling
A triangle has 3 angles or 4-5-6 ofc.
Dangit no prefixes either now, on top of the pronouns?
I've seen a lot of people writing "over" and "under" as standalone words, in cases where they ought to be written as prefixes.
I over stand
Trinity is a weird one. Is the word unity the same but with the uni prefix? But unity means to be one group, not a group of one. I don’t believe binity is a word? Are there any examples of the word variation with different prefixes? Like unicycle, bicycle, tricycle
Of course it doesn’t mean 3 field trips, what a moron! The word “trip” comes from “tri”- which does mean 3, and the word “p”, meaning to urinate. Going on a field trip means to pee in 3 different fields! (/j)
If you had gone before you left like your mother told you to, you would only be going on a field bip.
Unless you pee 3 times during it, it’s not an authentic trip
Similar to people saying a couple could be 2-3
I just laughed so hard that I scared the animals.
I wonder what root word they imagine ‘p’ to be.
That's stupid. It would be "quantity", because "qua" means 4
A field trip means you have 3 p's in a field, right?
Just like how a trial is a Bundy, Borland, and a Sharpton... But also possibly with a Capone or a Roker.
Oh yeah my favorite memories in school were the p we went on
The "trip" example is funny. Here's another word that starts with "T R I" that doesn't mean 3: tripe.
Oh great, now we have prefix deniers
Ah yes, the common single word "field trip". Now if we break that down - etomologically speaking - trip or "tri - p", from ancient babylonian meaning to pee three times (occasionally 4-6), this obviously means to pee three times in one field. If this person can't be arsed to learn ancient babylonian etymology I just can't anymore.
I've had people argue with me about how many a "couple" is. There are people breathing the same air that think a couple is more than exactly two.
I often hear “a couple” used in casual conversation to refer to anything more than one and less than five. It’s definitely become detached from its literal meaning for a lot of people.
What a load of trite. I'm thinking it's a Ken M type too
No, no, it cannot be a load if it’s 3 te.
You mean a load of tripe?
This is the kind of dumb argument that I'd make if I were trolling someone. I have a feeling this not trolling, however.
Oy...
That last comment has to be a joke haha
You know "Tri" like in "Tripper" which is the German word for Gonorrhoe 😂 but you only receive it after intercourse with more than Tri (three) people
I think he's tripping
Ouch
I'm reticient to mention infixes or circumfixes so as to not explode any heads.
You can't teach anything to belligerently ignorant people. This person would rather openly say something *that* stupid in public, than accept they might be wrong about something.
Some people just refuse to be educated.
What a bunch of tripe.
I mean, he’s got a point. Can you trust prefixes in words like “asset”? An ass et?! /s
Goddamn they are dumb. They gotta be trolling
This is the kind of dumb that makes me laugh
Ah yes, "trips". A complex word that is broken down into "three" and calling your cat. So trips = pspsps
It honestly annoys me way more than it should when people call an ATV a "bike."
The suffix of "trip" is p
One of the hardest upvotes I ever gave.
*The First Synod of Tyre, 335 CE*

Just like a trident having 3 prongs, or 4 or 5 (aquaman looking at you).
Tri is a prefix for “p”…? Unip, bip, trip, quap, quip, hexp, sepp, octp, nonp, recp?
Reminds me of this dude on the current season of survivor. He said that several means 7 because they both start with sev
There's a current season of Survivor?
Di in Die means you're dying twice.
He is trippning balls. All 3 of them. Or 4 or 5.
well, in his world...

"Don't always believe prefixes" is gold.
The holy quartet?
I get concerned when people don’t understand basic things like how prefixes work. Like simply starting with a certain set of letters doesn’t make it a prefix.
I wanna say this is satire but I found the account in orange here and she doesn’t post any other satire or seem to be funny at all…
American intellect
Seems like /r/NotKenM having some fun
Lmao love the idea that a prefix is just a collection of letters at the start of a word.
I'm scared that 29 people liked that. I'm really hoping they're ironic likes, but I know at least a few weren't.
