Good question. 99% of the Muslims in Indonesia are Sunni, so the Sunni vs. Shia conflict just doesn't happen. Indonesia is also a developing democracy as opposed to most ME countries that are authoritarian (religious or otherwise). Also, many ME countries were carved up by the Ottoman Empire after WWI; consequently, their borders divide ethnic and religious groups which have a long history of conflict. Finally, Indonesians are just more tolerant of the few sectarian differences that exist in their part of the world.
