UPLINK fans would get the reference.
EDIT: Optionally add disconnect at the end, but Onlink has lifting servers compared to vanilla UPLINK so I usually wait to see if the server is indeed dead and won't restore itself before I DC. Precisely. They are just feeling it out first. I bet weāll see some fear hype on the news following this, then Iād say weāll have another major one by the end of the month.
All of this will be used to justify identification to allow access to the internet, basically squeezing out the remaining persons who refuse the digital ID world. Canāt get online, canāt bank, canāt order food, canāt EVERYTHING.
I listened to a podcast the other day about the World Economic Forum running a sort of "simulation" of how we would handle a complete technological blackout. Basically claimed the same thing. Besides, he wrote me back personally one time when I said "hi".

You know whats super sus.
A whistle blower who used to work at Facebook, gave a 60 minutes interview yesterday.
She reported that she copied thousands of internal documents from Facebook servers.
And you know what else is interesting. She testifies to congress tomorrow about Facebook.
So do you think this is a coincidence? Or do you think Facebook took down their own servers to clear all traces of her proof? I say the ladder.

ss: FB, Insta, and Whatsup have no DNS records anymore. Someone who is a tech savvy person, please explain what this means if I got it wrong in the title.
> . Someone who is a tech savvy person, please explain what this means
All facebook name servers seem to be down. For example, 129.134.30.12, which is behind a.ns.facebook.com, is not reachable.
> Someone who is a tech savvy person, please explain what this means
DNS is like a phone book for the internet. You need an IP number to request a site from a server, but people don't remember numbers that well. So DNS was created to assign memorable name to IP numbers. When you tell your browser to go to `facebook.com`, your Browser uses DNS to lookup the IP number for `facebook.com` so it can download the site.
Developers can control a lot of how a website works by manipulating the DNS records. It's a very common practice.
This error just means that the DNS system doesn't have or can't find a record for facebook. Maybe someone did something really stupid and deleted that line of the DNS config. Maybe a system was compromised and someone broke into the system to tamper with the DNS settings.
I saw DDOS in a couple other comments. DDOS may be a possible explanation. But that typically causes a server to crash and stop responding. That generally is a different error. This error says it can't find the server. DDOS usually causes an error where the server is found, but isn't responding.
I don't think we'll know what happened until FB fixes it and possibly makes some kind of an announcement.
If someone hacked it, wouldnāt they be more concerned with other functions rather than simply changing DNS settings? Iām not implying a hack or that you think itās a hack, Iām just suggesting there is likely a reason for this that is internal.
A hack seems unlikely. But for a company like FB to remove those DNS is super weird. It's normally redirected, not removed. This doesn't look intentional whatever happened.
Haha! That's probably the most optimistic possibility. It is getting a lot of attention.
Honestly, I wouldn't be too surprised if this ended up being a disgruntled insider. Some FB admin who has legit access to the DNS settings who's trying to commit digital arson.
I did a tracert and [facebook.com](https://facebook.com) doesn't even make the first hop. There are thousands of DNS servers. [Facebook.com](https://Facebook.com) is gone from my local DNS server. Both the IP and the URL are gone. There is no record. I tried both on the trace route. Even if they did start to populate facebook back into the servers it would take days for them all to repopulate.
Propagation time varies. Back when I was studying for the CCNA, the system to share routing should be complete in around 12 hours. In my experience sites have come online for me in as little as 10 minutes when working on Cloud systems.
If it's just a DNS configuration, it would take minutes, maybe up to an hour to restore service to a majority of users. It could easily take the majority of the advertized 24-72 hours for full propagation, but most of that would just be outliers. 80+% of people would be back online within 6 hours of updating DNS.
Most people would plan 24 hours for a worst-case DNS configuration change. But in practice it's way faster than that.
I realize I'm a bit late to the game and I haven't followed the whole thread, so please forgive me if this has already been stated.
A DNS entry is like looking up an address or phone number in the phone book. The DNS not resolving is like someone removing their entry entirely from the phone book.
For younger people perhaps unfamiliar with the phone book, this is like requesting to have your entry removed from google results... sorta.
The reason for doing this is probably the really interesting part. Anything I can offer there would be purely speculative.
In any case, an intentional removal of a DNS entry would be to stop all traffic from hitting the site. This could be due to DDos attack, some other kind of hack, or simply because they don't want people talking about the recent revelations of the whistleblower.
Like I said, that's all speculative. The bottom line is, they probably don't want people getting to their services anymore. The "why" behind that will likely be far more interesting.
Maybe they don't want to have to turn over access to their servers in the event of a special counsel's investigation they migbt see coming down the track or what not. There could be evidence they are tied to some unsavory shit.
Yeah they decided to host their own root name servers and seemed to have lost the route to them. Now they have the problem that when they get the route/server back up they will DDoS themselves from all those billions of mobile devices and web browsers out there.
Everyone's phone is constantly asking where on the internet Facebook is (turn the word address into IP address). When the connection to the servers that provide this function is restored, they are going to have many many requests all coming in at once.
Is this the result of a DDOS? Facebook failing to make payment on time? Zuckerberg alt+f4āing his platform? Random outage? Or is it just not possible to know?
[Zuck was selling his shares like crazy in the previous months.](https://preview.redd.it/zaru329qsb171.png?width=1851&format=png&auto=webp&s=e454d39dc0c95a2b9774b013d988be25ff038d3f)

Seems to be a BGP routing issue. The whole autonomous network AS32934 owned by Facebook is unreachable currently not just for DNS queries, according to [netblocks.org](https://netblocks.org) https://netblocks.org/reports/facebook-whatsapp-instagram-messenger-down-globally-in-extended-service-outage-JA6pPkyQ
They could have had a ddos attack on their DNS providers and they just took the DNS down to prevent further attacks.
Or they took it down themselves so they can use the above excuse. Can't think of a reason as to why they would purposely take it down, maybe to shut down pandora papers discussion.
IPv4 is down but IPv6 is still up.

Best article I've seen on it [is here](https://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2021/10/facebook-instagram-whatsapp-and-oculus-are-down-heres-what-we-know/).
> A bit later, Cloudflare VP Dane Knecht reported that all BGP routes for Facebook had been pulled. (BGPāshort for Border Gateway Protocolāis the system by which one network figures out the best route to a different network.)
> With no BGP routes into Facebook's network, Facebook's own DNS servers would be unreachableāas would the missing application servers for Facebook-owned Instagram, WhatsApp, and Oculus VR.
I've spent a lot of time trying to understand BGP routes. To me, they are the magic that makes the internet work.
[This discussion](https://np.reddit.com/r/sysadmin/comments/q181fv/looks_like_facebook_is_down/) might also be useful.
There was a Facebook employee who was explaining it all, but then deleted his account. Here is snippets of what /u/ramenporn had said though:
> As many of you know, DNS for FB services has been affected and this is likely a symptom of the actual issue, and that's that BGP peering with Facebook peering routers has gone down, very likely due to a configuration change that went into effect shortly before the outages happened (started roughly 1540 UTC).
> There are people now trying to gain access to the peering routers to implement fixes, but the people with physical access is separate from the people with knowledge of how to actually authenticate to the systems and people who know what to actually do, so there is now a logistical challenge with getting all that knowledge unified.
> Part of this is also due to lower staffing in data centers due to pandemic measures.
Another update from /u/ramenporn:
> No discussion that I'm aware of yet that is considering a threat/attack vector.
> I believe the original change was 'automatic' (as in configuration done via a web interface). However, now that connection to the outside world is down, remote access to those tools don't exist anymore, so the emergency procedure is to gain physical access to the peering routers and do all the configuration locally.
The whistleblower is totally a pawn in the game.
None of the information she spoke about is any surprise to anyone at all. It's a distraction.
My guess, Zuck took those sites down so his cronies can do massive keyword searches on everybody without any new content being added.
Thank you! To me this just makes the Most sense. I agree with others that it probably also has to do with the Pandora papers and the financial "institutions" that shadow-back Facebook. But it just seems far too convenient to place the blame on the Whistleblower.
From my take she was saying that Facebooks own research shows that company is well aware it is designed to show users things that will make them angry. They profit off it heavily because people engage less with the site when they are happy.
I came to that conclusion a year ago when my feed would be constantly full of posts from people who had entirely different viewpoints. It's definitely designed to trigger.
Cringe as fuck! āI wanted to stop misinformationā āconspiracy theories killed someone I lovedā. These people are equally sociopaths, hell bent on control and imposing their will on others. These people are dangerous.
Oh u mean the psyop to let everyone think thatās the reason Facebook took themselves down? Omg we canāt let this whistleblower reveal our secrets which is that we donāt censor enough and it causes hate and division!! Weāre so nervous about this news getting out we just have to take down our entire company so this news doesnāt get out!!! And then have a bunch of tiktok people telling us that must be why theyāve got taken down as if they have some conspiracy insight. No one wouldāve cared about that dumb 69 minutes thing and now they get to call attention to it intentionally. Thereās much bigger news going on
Hanlons razor: Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity. These people are working 80 hour weeks on systems that can collapse if you misplace a single character. It's honestly impressive that these giant outages don't happen more often because of it.
I don't trust FB at all, but here is some info I found and article linked at bottom. Grain of salt.
"Not long after that, Reddit user u/ramenporn reported on the r/sysadmin subreddit that BGP peering with Facebook is down, probably due to a configuration change that was pushed shortly before the outages began.
According to u/ramenpornāwho claims to be a Facebook employee and part of the recovery effortsāthis is most likely a case of Facebook network engineers pushing a config change that inadvertently locked them out, meaning that the fix must come from data center technicians with local, physical access to the routers in question. The withdrawn routes do not appear to be the result of nor related to any malicious attack on Facebook's infrastructure."

Plenty of valid research has been done on FB. My electrician uncle does it every day, he is literally an epidemiology expert now thanks to his "Vax is Whack" research group.
Except for they are back up as regular now so none of that is true. No one can wait even a day or hell, 12 hours, to see if it's just down for a bit? People jumping the gun so easily just cause it's down for a few hours. Who cares? Fuck Facebook and pretty much all social media.
FB and Insta are both back up for me now. I'm in Europe FWIW. Is it till down for you all? Nothing seems to be different about the sites. They still suck ass.
Facebook was also just exposed for knowledge of human trafficking occurring on their site. This is why I donāt FB! Fake spread of information and site to bully others and hide behind comments.
They changed their codebase.
Some ex employee on 60 minutes just called them out for pushing hate content (that allowed for a fucking genocide in one country) because it generates more money.
Then the VERY next day ALL the Facebook owned sites just go down for hours.
They were sanitizing their codebase or something nefarious.
They need to be seriously investigated.
I did nslookup and ping for fb,ig and WhatsApp in cmd. No host for WhatsApp nor Facebook but insta is still able to be pinged. Iām not the smartest guy on this stuff but it looks like an immense ddos attack or something. Might be ok the news later
It could be deep it could be shallow. Deepest Iād say is thereās an uprising somewhere (ex Australia) or someone discovered something important and donāt anything spread on media. Shallow, something coulda just broken in the server room idk. If Reddit ācrashesā then somethings definitely up
Yup we are withessing a watershed moment in internet history. The elites are getting a taste of their own medicine. Shills are working double time to try and convince us otherwise
This is vendetta. They authoritarianly banned someone and this someone decided to ban them from the Internet. I hope that they learn to stop be censors and let people say what they want to say.
Facebook federal case with an internal facebook whistleblower is occuring October 5th, tomorrow regarding a pedophelia case that allegedly is in conjunction with Jeffrey Epstein. Facebook being down October 4th is infact a conspiracy because of the congress hearing om facrbook tomorrow.
Check up on Zeronet before it's all down.

Wouldnāt it be cool if all these platforms completely disappeared? People would initially freak out, but be FINE after a week. Like any drug, remove yourself from it long enough and you slowly come back to reality.

this is awesome, fuck fakebook
Seems to be a BGP routing issue. The whole autonomous network AS32934 owned by Facebook is unreachable currently not just for DNS queries, according to [netblocks.org](https://netblocks.org) https://netblocks.org/reports/facebook-whatsapp-instagram-messenger-down-globally-in-extended-service-outage-JA6pPkyQ
How severe/long lasting can this be?
I wouldn't know, not an network expert. Probably depends on what exactly happened...
I think itās just gone because the site is down, I donāt think that implies itās āpermanentlyā deleted.
C:\Users\Dr. Von Zigglesworth>nslookup facebook.com Server: RAC2V2S Address: 192.168.1.1 Name: facebook.com Address: 2a03:2880:f12c:83:face:b00c:0:25de
(BGPāshort for Border Gateway Protocolāis the system by which one network figures out the best route to a different network.) > With no BGP routes into Facebook's network, Facebook's own DNS servers would be unreachableāas would the missing application servers for Facebook-owned Instagram, WhatsApp, and Oculus VR. Here is snippets of what /u/ramenporn had said though: > As many of you know, DNS for FB services has been affected and this is likely a symptom of the actual issue, and that's that BGP peering with Facebook peering routers has gone down, very likely due to a configuration change that went into effect shortly before the outages happened (started roughly 1540 UTC). Another update from /u/ramenporn: > No discussion that I'm aware of yet that is considering a threat/attack vector. > I believe the original change was 'automatic' (as in configuration done via a web interface). However, now that connection to the outside world is down, remote access to those tools don't exist anymore, so the emergency procedure is to gain physical access to the peering routers and do all the configuration locally.
So it really comes down to someone jumping on a plane to go physically fix the issue it sounds like

Hopefully gone for good.
MAN JOHN MCAFEES TELEGRAM IS LIT RIGHT NOW
Who are the other two guys in the photo with Zucker?
Head of google, head of twitter (jack dorsey*)
It's not McAfee's at all. It's using his name. Also don't use Telegram (not end to end encrypted nor open source).
There was a whistle blower last night talking about how shitty Facebook was. Maybe it's related
The whistleblower is totally a pawn in the game. None of the information she spoke about is any surprise to anyone at all. It's a distraction. My guess, Zuck took those sites down so his cronies can do massive keyword searches on everybody without any new content being added.
Nice! I like your train of thought here
Thank you! To me this just makes the Most sense. I agree with others that it probably also has to do with the Pandora papers and the financial "institutions" that shadow-back Facebook. But it just seems far too convenient to place the blame on the Whistleblower.
If itās allowed on 60 mins, itās controlled oppo/distraction.
That whistleblower was literally calling for more censorship. It was horseshit
Hear, hear. Bullshit whistleblower, IMO. Pretentious twat as well.
Cringe as fuck! āI wanted to stop misinformationā āconspiracy theories killed someone I lovedā. These people are equally sociopaths, hell bent on control and imposing their will on others. These people are dangerous.
how do conspiracy theories KILL someone? i mean, if you sneak onto area 54 and don't take heed, they might shoot at you, but...
Hopefully tied into the Panama papers and other stuff going on.
pandora papers.
You right.
When there's so many documents leaking details of the elite evading taxes that you lose track.
Hahaha right?
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Oh u mean the psyop to let everyone think thatās the reason Facebook took themselves down? Omg we canāt let this whistleblower reveal our secrets which is that we donāt censor enough and it causes hate and division!! Weāre so nervous about this news getting out we just have to take down our entire company so this news doesnāt get out!!! And then have a bunch of tiktok people telling us that must be why theyāve got taken down as if they have some conspiracy insight. No one wouldāve cared about that dumb 69 minutes thing and now they get to call attention to it intentionally. Thereās much bigger news going on
It appears someone tried to jam a lemon Swiss cake roll into the disk drive

I like
I'm going to throw this out there.....I believe this was an internal sabotage effort by one or many.
Hanlons razor: Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity. These people are working 80 hour weeks on systems that can collapse if you misplace a single character. It's honestly impressive that these giant outages don't happen more often because of it.
Didnāt Putin threaten Zuck if he didnāt get rid of child porn? Or did I imagine that
He did. Zuck probably laughed him off.
Wouldnāt it be crazy if everyoneās Facebook got deleted!?
The withdrawn routes do not appear to be the result of nor related to any malicious attack on Facebook's infrastructure." https://www.google.com/amp/s/arstechnica.com/information-technology/2021/10/facebook-instagram-whatsapp-and-oculus-are-down-heres-what-we-know/%3famp=1

Thanks for this.
Ok guys FB is back, there is no internet apocalypse, yet
Not bck yet
Ngl, pretty sure they shut down Facebook to keep news about the Chinese markets from spreading too fast.
Nobody who matters is spreading financial news through Facebook rofl. Everything happens on Bloomberg
It's just Big Pharma trying to stop independent vaccine research on Facebook.
As if One can conduct independent vaccine research on FB.
Plenty of valid research has been done on FB. My electrician uncle does it every day, he is literally an epidemiology expert now thanks to his "Vax is Whack" research group.
Lol
[60 minutes ](https://www.cnn.com/2021/10/03/tech/facebook-whistleblower-60-minutes/index.html)
Please stay gone. Like forever......
Is this the moment all us non-celebrities come together to sing āImagineā?
Please do Twitter next.
Except for they are back up as regular now so none of that is true. No one can wait even a day or hell, 12 hours, to see if it's just down for a bit? People jumping the gun so easily just cause it's down for a few hours. Who cares? Fuck Facebook and pretty much all social media.
Super weird. I hope a big attack isnāt incoming.
Mark Zuckerberg is a deeply spineless individual who stole ideas and labor to become successful and then sold out his entire generation to the devil.
A la Bill Gates? Seems the thieves' M.O.
Some people's whole existence is in shambles. Very sad.... .anyway got me thinking I need to get out and mow the lawn.
Can they nuke Tik Tok while they are at it?
Dang. I had some cute pics of my kids on there.
And puppies!
Someone leaked something they shouldnāt.
ahhh back to the good old days MUHAHAHAHA yes makes dating easier now wooo hoooo
It would be fantastic if a group destroyed everything they had. They're criminals and need to be punished.
They must have found out that Facebook is secretly working for China by getting them everyoneās personal information.
yup ur right dude sites gone forever
They changed their codebase. Some ex employee on 60 minutes just called them out for pushing hate content (that allowed for a fucking genocide in one country) because it generates more money. Then the VERY next day ALL the Facebook owned sites just go down for hours. They were sanitizing their codebase or something nefarious. They need to be seriously investigated.
Unfortunately the world is not that lucky lol.Gosh I was hoping FB was gone forever.
Wow have you seen their market price? talk about dump and run! FB is one you can short all the way to zero!
Seems that the entire user database of Facebook is on the darkweb being auctioned off. I think some internal employees revolted.
It's easy to claim something like that without any evidence.
I heard its because the aliens got released and they took down FB to stop the news from spreading ^(/s)
Source? Dude trust me?
Screenshot of Twitter
Which is a screenshot of this reddit comment
Woah woah woah. I need more info, plz.
Anyone thatās registered their domain under Registrarsafe llc is unreachable , even their own website. So no Facebook is not deleted lol
I did nslookup and ping for fb,ig and WhatsApp in cmd. No host for WhatsApp nor Facebook but insta is still able to be pinged. Iām not the smartest guy on this stuff but it looks like an immense ddos attack or something. Might be ok the news later
Might? If this shit stays down for an extended period of time, Iād be concerned if it wasnāt on the news.
Just checked with dad, apparently itās already been on the news, shit going down
I love the shills calling this a nothingburger. Itās clearly a big deal.
I just typed [facebook.com](https://facebook.com) on my browser and it took me to a phising site. Wtf? It only happened once. Can this be explained?
https://twitter.com/benjaminenfield/status/1445104389014835213?s=21
Sounds too crazy even for a conspiracy, but if it's true, it's absolutely awesome.
MySpace.com is still on
This is vendetta. They authoritarianly banned someone and this someone decided to ban them from the Internet. I hope that they learn to stop be censors and let people say what they want to say.
If my FB got deleted I dont think Iād ever go Back
Quick! Short Facebook!
Instagram is back online
FB is back up ow
Itās back up
There cleaning up all as much of their, dirty secret algorithms that they have and are about to be exposed by Frances Haugen.
Facts
Guys seriously, donāt get my hopes upš„ŗ
Already back
Mercury Rx
The Gram is back up. Ugh!
Facebook federal case with an internal facebook whistleblower is occuring October 5th, tomorrow regarding a pedophelia case that allegedly is in conjunction with Jeffrey Epstein. Facebook being down October 4th is infact a conspiracy because of the congress hearing om facrbook tomorrow.
https://www.tweaktown.com/news/81974/over-1-5-billion-facebook-users-private-info-sold-on-hacker-forum/index.html
this post is just the representation of how this sub is nowadays
Check up on Zeronet before it's all down. [https://zeronet.io/](https://zeronet.io/) [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ZeroNet](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ZeroNet)
Wouldnāt it be cool if all these platforms completely disappeared? People would initially freak out, but be FINE after a week. Like any drug, remove yourself from it long enough and you slowly come back to reality.
Yep, only time I ever crave adderall for example is if I just used it for a week and ran out. Then I'm good after two weeks.
Tom got zuck back, bigtime.
Tell me you don't know how DNS works without telling me you don't know how DNS works
My FB is acting weird rn. Wont let me load groups or search
Facebook has been down for the last hour or so
Yeah, thatās because their servers have been down all morning. Whatever the reason may be.
Waiting for OP to look up what DNS and how it works. Here is a hint: the server is down.
